I met Calvin's owners last night., as they were out searching in Charleswood. They recently moved to the area and Calvin just squirted out the door and was gone. They've been out searching for him ever since and have put a lot of time and effort into that search. It's only been a couple of days so maybe he's under your step or hanging out around your house?

We've had a larger poodle cross come in. Anna went with the poodle cut and turned out very well. The dog has nice lines.

Wire coat dogs do not get the traditional shampoo and cut type groom. Many people believe that wire coat dogs simple need to be bathed. Well we have two recent examples of dogs that would beg to differ.

Lily and Tiess were both carrying a lot of hair. Anna removes this excess hair with a hand stripping processl. It's not painful, it removes the old faded hair and allows for new growth and the dogs are much more comfortable.

There is an old saying that "good work, takes time." This was a two day groom so we have a before, a part way thru and an ending picture. It took a long time, but it certainly was a job well done.

Long dark nails can be tricky to cut. Long white nails are easier if you can see the point where the white nail ends and the pink begins.
The "quick" contains blood vessels and nerve endings so If you cut them to short they will bleed and the dog will let you know it hurts.

A skilled groomer will take off enough, without bleeding and the "quicks" will recede back up the nail. It may take several trims to get them back to the correct length.

This was Clover's first groom. She was pretty relaxed for a "first timer" but we took it slow, no stress, all positive experience, and it turned out just great. The first groom is so important, if it's a negative experience the dog remembers forever.

When Angus came in we used our large dog table. It's only about a foot off the ground and for the bigger dogs it's a simple step up. It's also large enough so there's no chance of ever falling off. I particularly like the cut around the eyes and those chops.

There is more to grooming than the basic shampoo, cut and nails. The quality ear trim is one of those extras that separate an adequate groom from a full service groom.

Below we have a good before and after set of pictures.

This service is available as part of the groom or as a service that can be completed on an as needed basis, like nails and face trims.

I think we can agree that there is a large difference between these before and after pictures. Also worth mentioning is that if snow/water get in your dogs ear, a well trimmed ear will dry much quicker.

You think Revel looks a little surprised at the amount of hair we brushed out of him? No wonder his nickname at the park was "Hairy." 🙂

After a good shampoo, brush out, trim and tidy he's looking pretty sharp and ready to show off at his next off leash park visit.

We have a great set of pictures of a two day groom on a ten month old standard poodle. This was Murphy's first full groom. His owner had bathed him and trimmed him, but this was the first full groom.

Murphy didn't like the high speed blower, so Anna took it slow and easy, lots of breaks. We can't over emphasize how important that these first grooms are positive experiences for the dog.

Murphy wasn't completed on day one, so he was back, the following morning and we finished up. I think we can agree that he's a good looking boy.

Cece was so busy this morning that we didn't get to take a pre-groom picture. However I think we can all agree that the groom turned out great.
