Just a friendly reminder that we will be closed on Monday, September 2nd for the statutory holiday. We are open today from 8 am - 5 pm (closing early) and Saturday from 9 am - 4 pm. We resume regular business hours on Tuesday, September 3rd.

Please ensure you place and pick up any medication orders in a timely fashion so that we can make sure that your pet has everything they need!

Today, we remember the cherished pets who have crossed the Rainbow Bridge.

"Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.

There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old, are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt, or maimed are made whole and strong again. Just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.

The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing. They each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together...but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers.

Suddenly...he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster, and faster.

You have been spotted.

When you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face. Your hands again caress the beloved head. You look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then... you cross the Rainbow Bridge together."

This little girl was brought to us after being found by a good samaritan on Collegiate street. Is this your pup? Please bring proof of ownership to Silver Heights Veterinary Hospital on Ness. If we are unsuccessful finding the owner, pet will be taken to Animal Services.

Our pets of the week goes to these 6 superhero's!! 🐕💕

Last Monday we hosted another Blood Donor Clinic with where we had 1 new donors that joined the pack and 5 that returned to donate and save a life!

By supporting CABB we can impact the lives of critically ill dogs and their families, giving them the fighting chance they deserve. Each blood donation can make a difference in the lives of three other dogs across Canada.

Today, we're sharing our appreciation for Veterinary Assistant Gail! 🐾🩺

Gail is one of our newest Veterinary Assistant's that has joined SHVH team recently. Even though Gail has only been with our team for a short while, she has grown to love SHVH patients and clients. Gail graduated the Veterinary Assistant program as a mature student in 2014 from St. Lawrence college in Kingston, ON.

Gail used to volunteer with Kingston Humane Society and left career in advertising to pursue Veterinary Medicine. She has two dogs Myka and Domina and a cat Moose!

Even though you’re new to the team she comes in with a positive attitude everyday and puts a smile on everyone’s faces! We are all so grateful to have you part of the team Gail!

Today, we're sharing our appreciation for Veterinary Assistant Krystalee! 🐾🩺

Krystalee has been with Silver Heights Veterinary Hospital since 2022, after graduating from the Veterinary Assistant program. She always had a passion for animals all her life and couldn't imagine doing anything other than caring for our fur babies! With only 2 years of Veterinary Medicine under her wings, she has grown to love it and is now moving forward in her career; she will be returning to school to become a Veterinary Technologist this fall!

Outside of work, Krystalee enjoys spending her time volunteering at local animal shelters or camping! However, at the end of the day, you'll catch Krystalee snugging with her cat Zeus!

Krystalee, your tireless efforts and the love you pour into your work doesn't go unnoticed! You always manage to put a smile and laughter on everyone's face, no matter what the day brings. The SHVH team is beyond grateful for everything you do, and we're lucky to have you as part of our pet-loving team/family! 💕

Today, we're sharing our appreciation for Veterinary Assistant Kristiana! 🐾🩺

Kristiana joined SHVH in the fall of 2023, where she has been expanding her knowledge in veterinary medicine both here at SHVH and at the University of Manitoba in hopes of becoming a veterinarian. Her interest in veterinary medicine started with her first foster pet, who underwent an amputation and required constant medical care. She has since made it her goal to help improve the lives of animals!

Outside of work, you'll catch Kristiana either swimming as a lifeguard or as an instructor! But at the end of the day, you'll catch Kristiana snuggling up with her pup, Gizmo!

We cannot thank Kristiana enough for all her hard work and dedication to caring for our community pets and their families!! 💕

Armoni is showing off his very fashionable outfit!
He came in for a exam with Dr. Perrault after his pawprents found an wound around the chest/abdomen, after they saw him licking the area more than normal. Dr. Perrault preformed a clip and clean procedure to the affected area, to prevent Armoni from licking the affected area we dressed him up in this fashionable medical shirt.

In order to prevent patients from licking the incision site or wound area, we will suggest options like a E-collar cone or a medical shirt to wear.

☀️How hot is too hot?☀️

As temperatures rise, it’s crucial to know when it’s too hot for our furry friends. Keep them safe and cool with these essential tips!

Temperature Guidelines:
24-27°C - Watch out for older dogs or breeds with health issues.
29°C and above - High risk of heatstroke
32°C and above - Danger Zone

Signs of Overheating:
Drooling, excessive panting, lethargy, rapid breathing, confusion, vomiting

Prevention Tips:
☀️Schedule walks for early morning or late evening
☀️Keep your pets hydrated, with fresh water
☀️Provide shaded areas and cooling mats
☀️Never leave them in cars

Fun Fact Wednesday! 🦷Furcation (Root Exposure)🦷 This condition is where the area under the tooth becomes visible/exposed due to bone loss caused by periodontal disease. Furcation can lead to infection, pain and tooth loss. Once we're able to place a probe between the roots (as shown above) extraction is our preferred treatment. Just like humans, cats and dogs need regular dental cleaning! Spring is finally upon us! 🐾🌤 With the temperatures starting to warm up and we're getting promising sunshine, ticks are beginning to wake up from their winter sleep and they are hungry! You know what that means it's time to talk about heartworm and tick season! 4DX tests are a preliminary blood test that detects antibodies that suggest exposure to three tick born diseases (Lyme, Ehrlichiosis, and Anaplasmosis) and also tests for the presence of heartworm which is contracted through mosquitoes. Ticks begin feeding once the temperature has reached 0-4°c for several consecutive days. It is recommend starting tick prevention as soon as those temperatures hit. We transition your pet to a heartworm and tick combination medication in June, which then ends the prevention season typically in November.
