Today is National Receptionist Day!!
We want to take time today to thank our reception/CSR team for all of their efforts every day! With answering phones all day, assisting clients with their concerns, breaking up dog squabbles, juggling exam rooms, consoling grieving owners and calming concerned pet parents, and being the communication liaison between owners and doctors- they have their workload cut out for them! We are blessed to have such a great team!! 🥰
Happy national receptionists day! Thank you to our friends at Boehringer for having .wpg come down to Dakota to treat our lovely receptionists and whole staff!
We appreciate you!
⭐️ Star of the month for May……
Robyn
Robyn is one of our Registered Veterinary Technologists and has been part of our Dakota family for 12 yrs!!

We are lucky to have her. 💕
Today is World Veterinary Day!!
We are very fortunate to have such compassionate and caring veterinarians at our hospital! The dedication and commitment they show to our hospital, clients and patients is truly inspiring. Our team couldn’t be more proud and honoured to work along side these amazing ladies!! ❤️
We are still looking for a forever home for Zoey! Zoey is a very sweet girl. She loves to cuddle and play with her toys. She would benefit from a pet free house hold as she has been pretty stressed around other cats in her fosters house currently. If you are interested or have and questions please feel free to contact us at 204-255-8811!
Bella was a very good patient for Dr. Gould last week. She came in for her annual exam, vaccines and heartworm and tick prevention. Does your cat go outside? Have you put them on their heartworm and tick prevention?
The Dakota litter came to visit us yesterday ! Each pup found their doppelgänger except Dr. Vonderbank was not in.
April ⭐️star of the month…..
Alexis
Alexis just received her Veterinary Assistant certificate from the Animal Behavior College. Well, done Alexis!
She has become a great asset to our team both in treatment with the other Vet Assistants, technologists and Doctors and as a CSR at reception and has really grown into her role from starting as a kennel assistant in November 2022.
In Manitoba this will only be a partial eclipse, roughly 50% occlusion. Still, very cool and some good information regarding pets!
Hello friends!
The total solar eclipse is just around the corner, and just about everyone is ready to see the once in a lifetime event. We are seeing some mixed information about pet/wildlife safety.
Contrary to what some may read, the sun itself is not any more dangerous during the eclipse. The reason protective eye wear is recommended for humans (who wish to observe the eclipse) is because many of us will be staring directly at the sun that day, which is something we typically avoid.
For our pets, and outdoor wildlife, that day will be similar to any other day. Our pets don’t stare at the sun, so there is no need to keep them indoors on April 08 for any extended period of time. They may notice the change in temperature, but it is unlikely they will exhibit any unusual behaviour.
The eclipse can be more unsettling for birds. The dimming of the sky can mimic behaviour at dusk and during early storm formation, so some birds may demonstrate a wind-down behaviour and there may be less activity in the sky during the peak eclipse. Once the sky returns to normal, so does their behaviour.
If you are purchasing eclipse glasses, please make sure they meet these criteria. For additional information about the eclipse please see:
https://science.nasa.gov/eclipses/safety/
For a list of approved solar-viewing goggles please see:
https://eclipse.aas.org/eye-safety/viewers-filters
It is not safe to watch the eclipse through the lens of your smartphone - it can damage both your phone camera and your eyes. Try this instead:

Safe watching our friends!
Dr Renee Fleming
We are awe-struck with the names of the newest litter ! They seem vaguely familiar! 😻
This is Zyn! He came in yesterday to see Dr. Ruhlen. It was his first time at the vet and he did AWESOME! His favourite part was getting all the treats. Zyn is not only a good boy but a unique one too! Look at those eyes! Do you have a pet with different color eyes? Post them below, we would love to see!
Bella came in today to see Dr. Ruhlen. Look how small she is! She looks like a mini husky! Can you guess her weight?! ⚖️

This is Jaxie. Jaxie came in for vaccines with Dr. Bartley. Isn’t she the cutest? Well you’re in luck! She’s available for adoption through Manitoba Underdogs Rescue. She has been in rescue for months now and surprisingly almost no one has shown any interest in her. She is all up to date on vaccines and she is spayed! If you are interested in Jaxie and would like to know more please contact @manitobaunderdogsrescue Let’s find Jaxie a home! ❤️ #dakotaveterinaryhospital
ATTENTION! Calling all cat lovers! This is Zoey. A Good Samaritan brought Zoey in last week to us in hopes of finding her owner. We have been unable to find them so Zoey has been living with us. Unfortunately living in clinic is not a good long term solution for Zoey. We are looking for a home for her! She is a very sweet girl. Shes a lover. We believe she is 7 years old. If you are interested please contact us at (204)255-8811. ❤️
Introducing the Dakota Veterinary Hospital colouring book! This was made by some of our team members Morgan, Jacqueline and Robyn! They decided they wanted to make this for the kids that come into DVH so they can have a pleasant experience too! We want them to know that this is a safe place and we want to help their pets, and not hurt them! (If you need to distress while waiting these are also available for adults don’t worry) Ask our front desk staff for a copy! Happy Coloring! 🖍️🎨🐾#dakotaveterinaryhospital
Buttons says Hi! Happy Friday everyone! Do you have any plans with your fur babies this weekend? #dakotaveterinaryhospital
Dr bartley: Okay Rocco let’s start your exam Rocco: Exam? I thought this was a play date?! #dakotaveterinaryhospital
Shadow was a champ while getting his subcutaneous fluids! We give subcutaneous fluids to pets who are dehydrated. Subcutaneous fluids go directly under the skin as opposed to IV fluids which go directly into their vein. Subcutaneous fluids are administered in between the pets shoulder blades as it has the most excess skin. Once the fluids have been administered there will be a hump which eventually the body will absorb. #dakotaveterinaryhospital
And strike a pose! Silly boy Burnaby came in for vaccines. He was a very sweet boy through it all! #dakotaveterinaryhospital
Chico really knows how to work it for the treats! His mama says this is favourite place and he just LOVES coming here! #dakotaveterinaryhospital
Happy Monday! This is Charlie, and she was very happy to see Dr. Bartley last week! #dakotaveterinaryhospital
Our November Star of the Month is our groomer, Rachelle!! ⭐️ who is a little camera shy. Rachelle has been a skilled professional groomer for many years and is very passionate about her trade! She was the first groomer in Winnipeg to acquire her Fear Free Grooming Certification! She not only is amazing at grooming, but is a sweetheart to work with! Her compassion for her clients, their dogs and her co-workers are unmatched. Her only fault is that there is only one of her and so many dogs to groom!! 🐩
Luna must have play time first before Dr. Bartley can catch her for her exam! #dakotaveterinaryhospital #pug
Have you ever seen a dermoid before? It’s an abnormal growth of skin tissue (including hair!) in a weird location. In Kratos’ case it was growing on his eyeball!! In these cases we typically remove so that they don’t damage the eye. Stayed tuned to see how things looked after Dr. Bartley performed surgery! #dogsofinstagram #dogeyes #veterinarysurgery
Product of the month: LIBRELA! This new injectable medication helps manage pain from osteoarthritis in dogs. This is Tala, our Administrator’s 6 year old dog. She has had two cruciate surgeries and suffers from arthritis in most of her joints. She has had one treatment with Librela. Can you see the difference in her movements?! Amazing! Sometimes you will see some improvement in one week after one injection, but normally there will be significant improvements after two doses. There is also a cat medication called Solensia that works the same way.
Sometimes, even at a vet visit, you gotta find some time to play! #catsofinstagram #catbath #catsatplay
