☃️ 𝗪𝗔𝗟𝗞𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗜𝗡 𝗔 𝗪𝗜𝗡𝗧𝗘𝗥 𝗪𝗢𝗡𝗗𝗘𝗥𝗟𝗔𝗡𝗗! ☃️

With all this snow in Winnipeg, it’s important to keep our furry friends safe in the cold! 🐾 Here are some tips to protect your pets during snowy weather:

🐕 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝘄𝘀: Snow and ice can irritate your dog’s paw pads. Consider using pet-safe booties or applying a protective balm before walks.

❄️ 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗻 𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗱𝗼𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲: Even breeds that love the cold can get frostbite on their ears, paws, and tails. Limit time outside and always provide a warm place indoors.

💧 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝗮𝗹𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗲𝘇𝗲: Salt used to de-ice roads can be harmful if licked off, and antifreeze is toxic to pets. Always wipe their paws and bellies when they come inside.

🧥 𝗕𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗹𝗲 𝘂𝗽: Small and short-haired dogs may need an extra layer. A cozy coat can help them stay warm during walks.

🍪 𝗜𝗧'𝗦 𝗜𝗡𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗡𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗔𝗟 𝗖𝗢𝗢𝗞𝗜𝗘 𝗗𝗔𝗬! 🍪

While we all love to enjoy a sweet treat, it's important to remember that some ingredients in our favourite cookies can be harmful to our pets! 🐶🐱 Make sure to keep your furry friends away from:

❌ Chocolate – Toxic to both dogs and cats
❌ Raisins – Can cause kidney failure in dogs
❌ Xylitol – A common sugar substitute that is highly toxic to pets

But don't worry, there are safe ingredients your pets can enjoy in moderation:

✅ Peanut Butter (unsalted and xylitol-free) – A tasty treat that many pets love
✅ Pumpkin – Great for digestion and packed with nutrients
✅ Oats – A healthy, pet-safe grain that can be mixed into homemade treats

Remember to always check the ingredients before sharing treats with your pets! 🐾👩‍🍳

🎄𝗖𝗛𝗥𝗜𝗦𝗧𝗠𝗔𝗦 𝗧𝗥𝗘𝗘 𝗖𝗔𝗨𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 🎄

As much as we love the festive touch a live Christmas tree adds to our homes, it's important to be aware of the potential hazards to our furry friends...

🌲 𝗧𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗢𝗶𝗹𝘀: The oils from live trees (like pine and fir) can be toxic if ingested by pets. Chewing on the tree or fallen needles can lead to upset stomachs, drooling, or more serious issues.

💧 𝗧𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿: The water in the tree stand may contain fertilizers or stagnant water that can be harmful to pets if they drink from it. It's best to keep the water covered or use a pet-safe barrier.

🐱 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗯𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗮𝘁𝘀: Cats love to explore, and your tree can become a tempting target for climbing and knocking over. This can lead to broken ornaments, scratches, or injuries.

🐶 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗗𝗼𝗴𝘀: Dogs may be drawn to chew on the tree branches or tinsel, and the electrical cords from lights can present a serious choking hazard.

Temperatures are dropping and snowflakes are falling! ❄️ As winter sets in, it's important to keep our pets safe and comfortable 🐾

Here are some winter wellness tips to help your animals thrive:

🐾 𝗣𝗮𝘄 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Snow, ice, and salt can irritate pets' paws – wipe them clean after walks and consider booties for extra protection!
🧣 𝗞𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝗖𝗼𝘇𝘆: Pets can get cold, too! Make sure they have a warm place to rest indoors and limit time outside on frigid days.
⚠️ 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗔𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗲𝘇𝗲: Antifreeze is toxic to pets and often found in driveways. Be mindful and clean up any spills right away.

Bitty has always loved settling in for a snooze on the stairwell ledges – so when we underwent our renovation work last year, we just knew we needed to build our girl a safer and more comfortable resting spot! 😸

Every November 11th, we pause to honour the bravery and sacrifice of those who served and continue to serve for our freedom – both the men and women in uniform, and the animals who stood alongside them.

We are closed today in observance of Remembrance Day, but will resume regular hours tomorrow. If any pet emergencies should arise, please contact the Winnipeg Animal Emergency Hospital.
