When we heard the news that George Leonard, the founder of passed away unexpectedly last week, our whole family was in shock.

George was a driving force behind helping countless Canadian Veterans and civilians be paired with trained service dogs across Canada. Located in Winnipeg also, we built a friendship over the years, with George being a staunch believer in our products.

A few years ago, when we were developing our new sizing kit system, we asked George if he would be willing to bring a few dogs of various breeds and sizes to our compound to try the kits on.

He never asked for anything in return, he simply asked “how many?”

Within the hour, he arrived with a truck full of dogs, and helped us prove out the math of our system once and for all. For that, we will always be grateful.

Much love from the K9 Storm Family - Our thoughts and prayers are with the MSAR team during this difficult time.

What do you see when you look at this photo?

On the surface, it depicts a military working dog and his handler, kitted in a K9 Storm Aerial Insertion Vest and Intruder Camera System, storming into battle. You get a sense of their teamwork and movement simply by looking at them. It’s been one of my favorite photos in our collection for many years now.

Below the surface though, I don’t see any of those things anymore.

When I got the news that Erlend Gray, the handler in the photo, passed away after battling melanoma cancer for just over a year, I was heartbroken. Serving as part of the Norwegian SOF with multiple tours in Afghanistan under his belt, Erlend was a hardworking man of integrity, forward thinking, and respected by his peers throughout the tight-knit world of k9.

After his retirement from the military, he went on to start a consulting company in Norway that helped military and police agencies procure equipment for various operations. We worked on several projects specifically related to k9s in Norway, as his passion for dogs never wavered even after he left operations.

He battled his cancer diagnosis all the way till the end with both strength and honor.

Gone too soon, he leaves behind his loving family - Bjorg, Villjar, and Alma - the 3 biggest reasons he fought so hard in the first place.

Though his loss will be deeply felt here on earth, there’s one soul in heaven waiting for him with open arms.

His working dog, Pax, is surely ready to reunite with his handler once again.

To our amazing friend and his loyal companion.

That’s what I see when I look at this photo now.

BREAKING: K9 Kobe is SHOT & SAVED wearing his K9 Storm Aerial Insertion Vest!!

K9 Kobe is rushed to the vet after sustaining a gunshot wound to his front paws.

He has no bruising, no broken bones, and after a thorough x-ray it is determined that no other bullets thankfully struck him during the intense firefight.

When his Aerial Insertion Vest is sent back to us for repairs, we notice a small opening in a seam of the vest that looks suspicious...

Did Kobe take a second round to the body?

Sure; nothing looks better than a brand new ID Collar fresh out the box.

But from time to time, we get items back for minor repairs that look like they’ve been through the absolute wringer.

This ID Collar is roughly +10 years old. The Velcro loop for the patch was hanging on for dear life, so we stitched it back up, and it’s now ready to go for the next +10 years.

The “reflective” patch says POLICE. Much respect to the | this is how a piece of gear should look when your K9 unit is putting in WORK. 🐺👊💥

Some cool K9 Storm History. Swipe ➡️ for more photos

We were cleaning up our factory and stumbled upon our historical media records that feature some oldddddddd news articles, going as far back as 1995!

1st photo: 1995 - This is of Jim’s Police Dog, Olaf. Jim & Olaf were tasked with finding a murder suspect when this photo was snapped, and even got in trouble with the brass for Olaf looking “too menacing”, even though Jim had nothing to do with the photo! In truth though, Olaf was one bamf. He was passive when he needed to be, but man did that dog like to fight. His bark was the inspiration of our logo, and we know that everybody who has K9 Storm Gear still embodies his fighting spirit. Looking back, it’s still an honour to see working dogs with this small reminder of Olaf’s memory absolutely crushing evil.

Photo 2: 1999 - This is one of the first photos of Olaf working in his K9 Storm Vest. Even back then, he had underbelly impalement protection which ultimately saved his life one night when Olaf jumped over a fence and landed square on a rebar stake with tomato vines wrapped around it.

3rd Photo: 2003 - This is a photo of Glori (with Olaf on the Globe) taken for the “Women’s Entrepreneur of the Year” awards. Many of you might not know this, but K9 Storm is actually a Women Owned business, with Glori being the driving force for its success. Something inspirational about Glori is that she has never tried to pretend to be “military”. She has always led with humility and helped customers from her distinctly compassionate heart. Don’t mistake kindness for weakness though; she’s definitely tough as nails…it just so happens that she prefers hers to be painted. 💅

Born on the Streets - The K9 Storm Story

K9 Storm Inc. was founded in 1998 by former Winnipeg Police Canine Handler, Jim Slater, as a result of his work with his Police Service Dog, Olaf.

What started as one man’s need to protect his own police dog with a custom-fit ballistic vest, has turned into a mission to provide functional high-end dog gear to the world. K9 Storm Gear is currently being used by special forces teams, police agencies, and search & rescue groups in over 32 countries.

Now, for the first time ever, K9 Storm is opening the door to everyone. The same proven quality that is trusted by the world’s most skilled dogs is now available to the world’s most important…yours.

Welcome to the K9 Storm Family.
