I have noticed foxtail in the area and wanted to share the following because not everyone is aware of the dangers.

If you have pets, please keep them away from this plant!

The seeds from foxtails are barbed and can get embedded into their paws; signs of this are excessive licking and/or a “bubble” between the toes or a small hole in the skin.

If inhaled, your pet will one or more of the following, paw at its nose, violent sneezing or bleeding from the nose.

If they should swallow it, they will show one or more of the following symptoms, horrible constant cough, salivating, gagging, swallowing repeatedly and stretching its neck
If your pet is showing signs that they have swallowed foxtail, they must be taken to a vet immediately.

Getting them in their eyes is a possibility as well, those symptoms are squinting, mucous discharge, redness, swelling.

The seed of the foxtail cannot be broken down by your pets body and the seeds cannot work themselves out.

Our dogs are ok, because I’m aware of this plant and kept them away. I just wanted to post because not everyone may be familiar with the dangers.

I am not a vet, the above info is just what I know. If you should suspect that your pet has come into contact with foxtail, call your veterinarian or if they have swallowed any, please take to an emergency vet asap.
