As of August 1st, 2024, traveling with your pets to the States will look a little different.

The CDC requires the following things and more for your pets:
• Must be at least 6 months of age
• Have an implanted International Organization for Standardization (ISO)- compatible microchip
• Microchip must have been implanted prior to and required rabies vaccination
• The microchip number must be documented on all required forms and accompanying veterinary records
• Have a CDC Dog Import Form receipt. Form should be filled out ideally 2-10 days before arrival
• Have additional documentation that varies depending on where the dog has been in the 6 months before entering or returning to the United States, or if the dog has a current rabies vaccine administered in the United States

All cats are subject to inspection at ports of entry. Cats are not required to have a general certificate of health or proof of rabies vaccination. However, the CDC recommends that you acquire one as many States have additional requirements.

Contact the CFIA with any questions/concerns you may have regarding traveling with your pet.

Tis the season for bug bites!

An insect or spider bite can be problematic to your pet, especially if it causes an allergic reaction. If you notice the following symptoms, contact your vet right away!

• mild to severe hives
• facial swelling
• vomiting
• difficulty breathing
• collapsing

Do not give your pet any medications without contacting your vet or an emergency vet hospital first.
