Beginning ๐—”๐˜‚๐—ด๐˜‚๐˜€๐˜ ๐Ÿญ๐˜€๐˜, the CDC is requiring all dogs entering or returning to the U.S. to meet a new set of requirements in order to be permitted entry into the country. These requirements are dependent on where the dog has been in the last 6 months prior to seeking entry/returning into the U.S., as well as where they received their rabies vaccinations.

All dogs seeking entry/returning must:
๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ Be at least 6 months old
๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ Have an ISO-compatible microchip
๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ Have a CDC Dog Import Form receipt
๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ Have one piece of additional documentation

While these new guidelines may seem confusing, we're here to help! If you have questions, consult the DogBot at www.cdc.gov/importation or give us a call.

WE NEED YOUR HELP NOW!
Winnipeg Lost Dog Alert (WLDA) was formed to help dog owners in Winnipeg and the surrounding areas get their dogs home safely. In 2023 we helped approx. 1350 dogs get home safely that were Missing, Found or Loose.
Without Admins we cannot do this vital work to help YOU get your dogโ€™s home safely. We are always short of Admins, so we are again asking for help. Becoming a WLDA Admin is different from any other Page or Group Admin that I have had experience with. Most Pages need minimal input from Admins. However, we put a lot of work into helping you get your dogs safely home.
Other pages let you post on their page; they rely on you to make sure all the info needed is there (how often are there posts that donโ€™t have pictures or even the location of where the dog went missing?). The other pages rely on YOU watching for comments, sightings etc.
Not only does WLDA do the posts for you, which makes sure we have ALL the information needed when people are watching for your dog, we also watch for comments and messages. We relay important information as soon as we can. We offer advice based on our many years of experience.
If this page has helped YOUR dog get home, would you consider โ€˜paying it forwardโ€™ by volunteering some of your time to help cover our page? Help us to help you. Volunteer with us. The more Admins we have available to cover the page, the less time each one needs to do.
Email [email protected] for more information.

Did you have a real tree for Christmas? ๐ŸŒฒYou can drop off your clean tree at the dog park until January 31!! ๐ŸŒฒ We are a designated โ€œLetโ€™s Chip Inโ€ location, (South parking lot)!

Did you know you can recycle your real Christmas tree? Over the past 31 years, we have recycled over 418,942 Christmas trees. That works out to be approximately 1,905 tonnes of material diverted from the landfill.

When the holidays are over, you can recycle your real Christmas tree for free by bringing it to one of our depots between December 26 and January 31. Christmas trees will be chipped on site and free wood chips will be available at the depots in January, while quantities last. You can also bring your real Christmas tree to any 4R Winnipeg Depot year-round for free (wood chips will not be available at these locations). Learn more: https://ow.ly/r1jw50QmaB1

12/21/2023

Sometimes park dogs are wearing muzzles and here is why you shouldnโ€™t assume it is because they are dangerous. ๐Ÿฅฐ If you have a reactive dog or maybe just a shy or scared dog, a muzzle can eliminate any stress from the potential encounters with other dogs or people. ๐Ÿ• It keeps everyone safe and prevents accidents that could result from being startled or feeling defensive. We all have had that situation where we overreacted or reacted badly to a situation, due to our reflexes, the built-in response to being startled or perceiving a threat. It doesnโ€™t mean we are dangerous or aggressive, it is just a natural reaction to the unknown, that keeps us safe. ๐Ÿšฉ Sometimes a negative response is legitimate, a red flag that means that this is not a positive encounter. Then we can step back, assess the situation and either walk away or negotiate a compromise. ๐Ÿ˜ณ Sometimes we are just surprised and after consideration, laugh it off and then are fine interacting with each other. ๐Ÿถ

Be aware of your surroundings while walking, especially now that it gets dark early. We have had sightings and reports of a coyote that followed a person with dogs to the parking lot! If you see a coyote getting too close, make your self big and make loud noises, which scare them away.
