Meet Lena one of our OTTB lesson horses. She's one of our youngest schoolies and is proving to have a wonderful calm demeanor with people of all ages and abilities. Lena is excelling with our intermediate to advanced students wanting to pursue hunter-jumper goals. She's even been to several shows this past summer with @smt_equestrian and our show team students!

This holiday season, come and experience the life changing effects horses can have on you and your family! Bring your whole family or your special date - this event is for everyone!
For only $12.75/person, get 2 hours of our ultimate horse experience tour! Horse activities are for ages 2 to 70+**, kids 2 and under are free!
Although it's winter outside, this event is ALL INDOORS and will run as long as the roads are drive-able***!

Experiential stations that you can visit on your 2-hour winter horse experience will include:
- Horse rides (leadline)
- Grooming and heart-horse one-on-one time
- Horse movie and games room
- Fire Shack experience (roasting marshmallows and hot chocolate*)
We know not everyone is ready for riding lessons, so this is your chance to come down and spend some quality time with our horses for an affordable price.
Some of the horses you will meet include Charlie, Annie, Handsome, JD, Shade, Zip, Dolly, Phantom, Smurf, PR, Prince, Parker, Honey and Tizzy!

Participants will have access to all activities for 2 hrs from their start time. We use a staggered start time so that there is less waiting in line and so we don't overwhelm the horses!

The Ojibwe Pony, also known as the Lac LaCroix Pony or Indian Pony, is a breed developed by Indigenous people in the Boreal Forest regions of Canada and the northern U.S. It is a spirit animal for Indigenous people and it is listed as a critically endangered breed in Canada.
Elders remember thousands of ponies running through the forests...
There were only four Ojibwe pony mares left in the wild in 1977, when they were rescued from the Lac LaCroix area. Today there are approximately 170 Ojibwe horses registered with the Ojibwe Horse society.
Sagehill Stables wants to help with the breeding efforts to re-establish this spirit horse for Indigenous peoples.
One of the biggest challenges with growing the breed is the breeding process itself. It is much easier to re-home mares than it is stallions, and often young male Ojibwe horses are gelded because it just isn't practical or feasible for their owners to keep stallions or find homes for them. Those that have mares often don't have the financial or physical means to bring in a stallion and have their mares bred. Often stallions in a local area are not compatible to be bred with local mares due to inbreeding, so there is the added cost of transporting stallions long distances.
Sagehill Stables has offered to become a caretaker for Chase, a 15 year old black stallion, to help with breeding efforts in Manitoba. As Sagehill is boarding him free of charge, we are relying on volunteers and sponsors to help with Chases's care. We are half-way to our sponsorship goal!

Hmmm, what can I do with an entire semi-load of sand... maybe I'll have some left over for next spring!
Wishful thinking! One day and we've already used it all!
Sand... one of the most valuable commodities on a horse stable. We used it to fix the footing in arena 1, make a sandbox, added a rolling pit for the track, and added to the footing in some of the pens... and just like that it's time to save up for another one!
