"We had Billie for a 2 night Doggie Date and she was such a good girl! She is house-trained (washroom break every 4-5 hours). She is good on leash but can get excited and pull. Billie loves to window watch. She loves her toys and chews. She can get mouthy when you play with her. She already knows sit. She is quiet at home. She is food motivated, and with proper training on manners, she would do great in any household.

Billie was very good with my two large dogs at home. She loves to be around humans and would cuddle with you at night. She did great in the car. She was very gentle with some kids she met at the store. She has so much potential with how far she’s come at only 10 months old."

"What a sweetheart! I am sure he will find a home soon. I had him overnight. He slept in a crate and I did not hear a peep all night. He rode in the vehicle like a superstar. No issues at all. He got along great with my dog and they played for hours. He is not house trained, so he will need someone that spends the time to teach a puppy."

"I had a great Doggie Date today will Jill! She is a sweet, friendly girl 😊 she walked really well on the leash and loved rolling in the snow! We walked along the river at the Forks. She was very curious about people, not a fan of the train/car noise I noticed. Lovely dog! I hope she gets adopted soon."

"Chuck was a favourite out of all the doggy dates we do! He is so gentle when playing, loves to be right beside you, and cuddles as much as he can. Jumps but somehow in a gentle way, only for some extra face rubs. Slept through the night with no issues and hardly any barking. A very sweet boy and we are shocked he’s still not adopted. Very glad we had the opportunity to take him for a couple days."

Miss Aubrey has returned to us after spending quality time with wonderful foster families over the holidays (thank you!). Since coming back, she's been showering our volunteers with affection and walking beautifully on her leash. The time away has clearly made a positive impact on her, and we're committed to maintaining all the confidence and trust she's built.

Her foster family noted that she experiences some anxiety when left alone for extended periods. With this in mind, we're searching for someone who has a flexible work schedule, works from home, or has experience handling separation anxiety. But don't let these preferences discourage you—we're open to exploring different solutions to make Miss Aubrey the perfect fit for your home. She's been in our care for over 4 months now—far too long for such a special girl. We're eager to help her find her perfect forever home because it's what she deserves.

"We had Jill out today and can't believe someone hasn't snatched this beautiful dog up yet. She LOVES her walks....(although it is clear she'd also loves to run full tilt if she could) and is excellent on a leash. She loves to explore all the different sights and sounds whether it is deer, squirrels, tree messages, or just plunging head-first into the snow followed by a good roll. She is fond of belly rubs and enjoys affection. We did note that she does occasionally growl when coming up on smaller dogs but is easily called to walk off and listens to commands well. She is very calm with only the occasional 'young dog' exuberance but having the ability to run loose would more than likely wear off that extra energy. She travels well in the car and often falls asleep during the ride but is quick to be alert and ready to go whenever you are. She is very attentive, no barking, and is just so well-behaved. We hope she finds her forever home soon!"

"We had the pleasure of taking Fiona out for her second Doggie Date over Christmas, giving her a much-needed break from the shelter. She quickly became part of the family—loving car rides, making tons of new friends at the dog park, and greeting every human with warmth and joy. Fiona is fantastic with big dogs, good with small ones (though she needs reminders to slow down), and fiercely loyal to those she loves. It broke our hearts to bring her back to the shelter. Fiona is a snuggle bug and a gentle soul who deserves the very best. Could you be her forever family?"

"Today we had the absolute pleasure to once again take Amigo out on a Doggie Date. This is our second time with Amigo and it is a complete mystery to us why he has not found his forever home. Amigo is a happy and gentle dog. He loves to snuggle, enjoys playing in the snow, and just all around loves life. When not snuggling and playing in the snow, he likes riding in the car. He went on a couple of car rides today and just took it all in. He knows his basic commands and behaves well in the house, in the car, and pretty much everywhere else. Amigo is long overdue to find a place to call home. Will you give him a chance?"

"Bo is a very large cuddle bug, he was content playing outside or lounging with us on the couch and bed. He did great in the car, we took him for a few car rides. He was a bit vocal during the first car ride and the first few hours of being in our home, but after that, he was very calm! Bo is very food-motivated and was able to sneak some cheese and beans we had on the counter, but nonetheless, we enjoyed the few days we had with him. I don’t think he knows how big he is! Very big love bug !"

"We spent 3 days with Triton while I was off work. He is a friendly, affectionate boy who thrives on human companionship and would make an excellent best friend for the right owner. He’s treat-motivated and learned “down” with ease (and already knows “sit”). He’s house-trained and was able to be kennelled - though he had things to say about it! He was otherwise quiet for a husky.

We were told he gets along well with other dogs! His excitement around them on walks can lead to some pulling and reactivity (likely playful in nature). He’s an energetic boy who would do best with someone who enjoys an active lifestyle and is willing to work on his leash manners.

While Triton is full of potential, he does have a few behaviors he’s working on. He can be jumpy and mouthy, so he isn’t ideal for a home with small children right now. Rope toys worked great for redirecting him. He’s also curious and likes to get into things, so supervision and structure will be important.

With consistency, patience, and the right guidance, Triton is sure to flourish into an incredible companion for someone willing to invest in him."

Thanks to many kind hearts, most of the W.A.S. adoptable dogs are enjoying Christmas in foster homes. For those left behind, a very special Christmas dinner was provided for each and every dog, prepared with much love and holiday cheer. Firstly, all the kennels were decorated with festive lights. Then, with much excitement and glee, each dog was individually ushered to a very special dining area where they enjoyed a plate heaped with holiday foods, followed by many pets, hugs, Christmas kisses, and love. It was a happy time for all.

A Special Holiday Thank You is going out to volunteer, Tara Chatel and the awesome staff of Winnipeg Animal Services.

Alumni Update - Raven (formerly Porsha)
Hi! We adopted Raven (formerly Porsha) and I wanted to share a story - Years ago I worked for St. John's Ambulance, and created the flyer for the pet first aid course using our then puppy, Rocket. In November we lost Rocket to lung disease, and it broke our hearts. When we adopted Raven, Rocket's photo was in her adoption booklet. 💕

Raven is an absolute sweetheart - the moment she met Moose they were inseparable, and play for hours every day. She is a princess who loves the couch and sleeps on our bed every night.
