HAPPY BIRTHDAY to KRISPEN! 🎉

For those of you that don’t know him, Krispen is the other half of our Cat’s Cradle and Perfect Paws ownership team. Krispen literally does it all, including taking care of things around the property, delivering orders, building whatever Genelle dreams up (this week he’s working on a chicken coop!), whipping up creative marketing materials, and assisting clients who are bringing their pets for a stay! And of course he always has the perfect Dad joke ready for any situation!

Ever wondered why you need to arrange an appointment time to drop off or pick up your pet for a stay at Perfect Paws?
Scheduled coming and goings allow us to safely coordinate our playgroups throughout the day and move animals around within the facility. For this reason as well you may find our door locked when you arrive. Safety is always a top priority and scheduled appointments helps us achieve that!
Scheduled appointments also allow you to have our undivided attention when settling your pet in for their visit or hearing all about it when you pick up!
If your plans have changed and your originally scheduled time no longer works for you, that’s no problem! Just give us a call ahead to arrange an alternate time and we will happily coordinate with you!

Short hair, don’t care! 😍
A common misconception is that short haired dogs don’t require grooming. However, grooming isn’t just about the fur, it’s also about the health of your dog’s skin. Even hairless dogs require grooming! The bath, with moisturizing conditioner, and subsequent blow dry will clear away loose hair, dead skin and buildup of excess oils. The end result is skin that feels rejuvenated with a lustrous, shiny and soft coat of fur!
We recommend regular grooming every 6-8 weeks for most short haired dogs, with nail trim maintenance every 3-4 weeks.

Grooming small dogs is a ton of fun because there are so many options!
Many small dog breeds have breed specific trims that we can do. But we can also cater to whatever specific look you prefer! Round faces, fluffy ears, poofy tails- it’s important to let us know what look you want when you drop them off. Just like when you get your own hair done, showing us a picture of what you want is a great way to ensure you get what you are looking for!
Fun and creative grooming is often an option for a small breed dog, such as pet safe hair dye, or ponytails!
We recommend grooming be done every 5-6 weeks for most small breeds but chat with our grooming team to discuss what’s best for your dog, including the best tools for at home maintenance as well.

It’s getting hot in here! ☀️ Double coated dogs are well suited for a Winnipeg winter, but what about in the heat of the summer?
MYTH: shaving my dog will help keep them cool! ❌
FACT: a double coated dog should not be shaved, their fur is important to help protect them from the elements. Instead, regular grooming should be done to prevent the undercoat from getting packed, allowing air flow to keep them cool, while their top coat protects them from the harsh sun! ✅
A bonus of regular grooming will be reducing the tumbleweeds of fur drifting through your house!
We recommend grooming at least every 6-8 weeks (with nail maintenance every 3-4 weeks) to keep their coat healthy and optimal for their comfort. In between grooming, at home brushing should be done with an undercoat rake.

Oodles and oodles of Doodles!
What is a Doodle? Any breed of dog that is bred with a poodle, which means they come in all shapes, colours and sizes!
Generally Doodles have a combination coat, a mixture of fur and hair. This can leave them prone to matting if not properly maintained.
Our recommendation if you want to keep length on their coat is to have them come in every 4-5 weeks for grooming. Chat with our groomers to determine the best schedule to maintain your pup’s coat at the length you prefer. At home maintenance of regular combing (we recommend a greyhound comb) is also imperative to keep them tangle free, fluffy and beautiful!

Smokey & Mama Cat are in need of a new forever home 🤍 Their previous owner needed to move into a seniors home that did not allow pets.
Smokey (grey) is very playful and affectionate! He loves to sit beside you for pets. Seems to like other cats from the interactions we’ve seen.
Mama (calico) is very spunky, absolutely loves playing. She’s affectionate but not as interested in other cats.
