A week ago, we said goodbye to our beloved family dog, Arya.
As I write this, it still doesn’t feel real that she is gone. Arya has always been the matriarch in our pack. She has been bomb proof in every way. She has welcomed hundreds of foster cats and dogs and even the odd rabbit and rat. She was especially gentle with neonate kittens, a natural nurturer.
Over the years we took tons of classes from Rally obedience, tricks classes, swimming lessons, dock diving, animal acting lessons, agility, leash manners and more. My time training with Arya has made me the trainer I am today. Seeing the pure joy she had when she figured out a new trick made me so proud.
Arya lived a great life and was there to welcome both our boys home. She was happy to take on the role of their protector. She was never very far from them.
This little girl was such a perfect fit for our lives. She loved the dog park. It was her happy place and always made me smile watching her run. It didn’t matter the weather she was thrilled for the adventure.
After 3 months of her battling bladder cancer, I could see that she was tired. She happy to engage when I asked but was choosing to spend more and more time alone in our room. The spark that made Arya who she was was slowly fading. I made the impossible decision to take her off chemo. I wanted her last few weeks to be filled with happiness and love.
Even in her last day we went for a walk, just her Krispen and I. She trotted along happily slower than usual and made a point to constantly check in.
She had a wonderful last day on earth filled with love. Now that she is gone, I’m not sure how I am going to manage day to day. I’ve cried so many tears for her. She will forever be missed and always in our hearts. No dog will ever compare to her.
Rest easy my perfect puppy. I Miss you so much. Until we meet again ❤️
