History in the making!
From September 27th–29th, Victoria, BC was the perfect backdrop for yet another unforgettable guidED Leadership Experience - with our biggest turnout yet.

For three incredible days, we immersed ourselves in learning, conversation, connection, and inspiration. The energy in the room was electric — and it’s all thanks to you: our participants, speakers, and education partners who showed up wholeheartedly.

As we reflect on those moments today, we can’t help but feel proud of what we built together — the conversations sparked, the ideas shared, and the connections that will carry forward long after the event. Of course, we aren't quite done yet... we still have our third pillar. One more opportunity for all of our participants and subject matter experts to reunite (albeit virtually), dive deeper into the learning and application, share stories, reconnect and come away feeling that much more fulfilled!

So long, Victoria — you were a gracious and inspiring host.

Here’s to making history together… and to everything that comes next.

Making recommendations are a critical part of helping people to take care of their animals – not just pets, but any animals they are responsible for. Most often with recommendations, there is an exchange of a service or product for money. Sales. In veterinary medicine, many people shy away from having to “sell” because while we want what’s best for the animals, we hate that it requires a financial conversation. That said, we absolutely cannot avoid or diminish recommendations because of that discomfort. There are ways to make recommendations without feeling salesy – focusing on advocating for both the patient and client. Yes, it’s possible! Are you ready to build your skills? Then join our National Director Engagement and Practice Services Senani Ratnayake, as she helps you and your entire team get comfortable making recommendations without feeling (or being) salesy!

Veterinary Leaders…Do the challenges that come with “busier” and “slower” times of year keep you up at night?
Seasonality can sometimes feel like a dirty word when it comes to veterinary business. From cashflow to workflow and workload, the volume ups and downs can create real uncertainty and frustration.

What if we could reframe seasonality and tackle the nuances in a way that gives us peace-of-mind?

What if we could make the most of our time, every month, regardless of the season?

What if there were considerations you may not have yet explored or thought about?

Ready to test your seasonality resilience and strategies? Then join us on Wednesday September 10th at 2pm ET as our National Director, Engagement and Practice Services, Senani Ratnayake, tackles the pros and cons of seasonality (yes, there are pros – it’s all about perspective!).
This session is open to all Vet Alliance member practices at no charge. You can register through the August Noteworthy Newsletter, or by contacting us directly at [email protected].

🎯 "'Good Enough' is Never Good Enough: Redefining Success in Veterinary Leadership"
What happens when you combine driven, type A professionals who are passionate about veterinary medicine, with the classic "see one, do one, teach one" mentality that is pervasive in our education systems? In many cases it leads to rampant perfectionism and either solidifies or creates a fixed mindset that results in feelings of "I'm not enough and I never will be."

guidED 2025 invites you to reframe that story. In this session, Dr. Betsy Charles will challenge outdated definitions of success and help you pause and re-examine your internal narrative—while continuing to lead others with clarity and purpose.

🎥 If you haven't met Dr. Betsy Charles before you have no idea what you've been missing. Watch this video to learn more about her session - from the expert herself! With decades of experience and a fiercely engaging presence, Betsy will help you examine the hidden cost of perfectionism—and what it takes to build psychologically safe, high-performing teams starting with how you lead yourself.

🫁 Ever said: "I just don't have the capacity for this right now"?You're not alone—and you're not wrong.
In veterinary leadership, capacity isn't just about your calendar. It's about your clarity, energy, and ability to lead others without burning yourself out in the process.

At guidED 2025, Dr. Shona Kowtecky and Loretta Cella introduce five science-based strategies to help expand your leadership capacity from the inside out in their session, "Too Busy to Breathe? 5 Science-Backed Shifts to Expand Your Capacity and Lead with Ease." With tools rooted in breathwork, heart science, and change psychology, this session offers grounded, evidence-based ways to lead more readily, with confidence.

🎥 In this video, Shona and Loretta explain how this session will help you:
✅ Understand what's quietly draining your capacity
✅ Use real-time tools to calm your nervous system and sharpen your focus
✅ Lead yourself—and your team—with more ease, energy, and intention

This isn't about trendy wellness hacks or surface-level self-care. It's about evidence-based tools, and cultivating sustainable behaviours that allow you to lead well, without losing yourself in the process.

🎯 "No More Wingin' It: Annual Planning That Works"
If your practice's "strategic plan" feels more like a hopeful wish list, you're not alone. Many veterinary leaders have the best intentions around building plans - but with so many competing priorities, find themselves defaulting to dusty templates, modified efforts or top-down approaches that stall out before they even start.

At guidED 2025, Stephanie Goss will outline a practical system to help you co-create a meaningful, mission-driven annual plan with your team—one that builds clarity, momentum, and shared ownership.

🎥 In this video, Stephanie previews how her approach will help you move beyond theory into action—by turning big goals into real, collaborative work. This session is built for veterinary leaders who want structure, alignment, and traction—not just missed opportunities and plans that fall short or fall through.

🧭 With 25+ years of leadership experience in veterinary and nonprofit spaces, Stephanie brings strategy, warmth, and real talk to every room she walks into. You'll leave with tools that are practical, applicable, and ready to use with your team right away.

📈 𝗩𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗹𝘆𝘁𝗶𝘅: 𝗘𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀
As the veterinary industry continues to evolve, having a clear understanding of the landscape is more valuable than ever. In this session, Dr. Goring will walk us through Vetalytix, a free platform developed by Animalytix, designed to equip veterinary practices with meaningful Canadian data, and practical, time-saving tools. Discover how this resource can help you interpret national trends to inform your understanding and broaden your scope of knowledge. With this lens, you can uncover client and team adherence opportunities, and make confident, data-informed decisions, all while focusing on what matters most - tracking your own practice's performance to determine the best actions for you.
At Vet Alliance, we believe the most important insights come from benchmarking against your own historical data — this session will help you combine that with valuable industry context.
