This week, Vet Alliance attended the Canadian Animal Health Institute (CAHI) Convention in Ottawa. As a dedicated advocate for our Vet Alliance members, Senani, our National Director, Engagement and Practice Services, represented our organization. attending in order to hear about some of the most significant topics impacting Canadian Animal Health, including global and national challenges that may impact veterinary business and our ability to deliver care.
Surrounded by leaders from all types of industry stakeholders, Senani was able to hear from experts in a variety of fields, network, and contribute to discussions around things that can affect independently owned veterinary practices and Canadian veterinary professionals (as well as animal health generally).
Vet Alliance is incredibly proud to be the only CAHI member representing independently owned Canadian veterinary hospitals from coast to coast. We take this responsibility seriously. We are also proud to note that Senani is the Chair of the CAHI Communications Committee. In these ways, we seek to take an active role in what happens in, and to, our industry.
Our relationship with CAHI enables us to keep our members informed and connected to relevant industry-related news. It gives us access to important stakeholders, and key experts – including Dr. Catherine Filejski, our recent Office Hours guest speaker.
Senani came back with a wealth of new knowledge that we know will benefit our membership. Want to know more about CAHI? https://cahi-icsa.ca/

Did you know people are constantly assessing your trustworthiness—without even realizing it?

In veterinary medicine, trust isn't a nice-to-have. It affects everything:
✔️ If a client picks up the phone when they're worried... or not
✔️ If important treatment plans are followed... or not
✔️ If a team works well together... or not
✔️ If your work environment feels supportive... or not

But what makes you trust someone? And what signals might you be sending—possibly without realizing it—that shape whether trust is built or broken?

Join us June 5 at 7 PM ET as we explore four key trust signals that shape how others see you—and how you see them. No matter your role or job title, you'll leave with practical tools to build, maintain, and even repair trust with clients, teammates, and yourself.
Trust us—you don't want to miss this one!

Can you be trusted? It's a question every leader needs to ask themselves.
Trust isn't just "nice to have" in vet med—it impacts everything: from your team's morale and client satisfaction to patient outcomes and practice revenue. And it's even more important these days as everything constantly shifts around us.
So… what can you do to build trust as a leader? Do your day-to-day actions & words create an environment where trust is the foundation, or the exception?
Join us on June 11th at 2 pm EST as we explore the four essential behaviours that build—or break—trust. This Collaborative Empowerment session will build on June 5th's TEAM session by digging into what trust really looks like from a leadership lens—and what your team (and clients) need from you to know it's real.

Educators Matter!

Vet Alliance was proud to be a Platinum Sponsor of the recent Ontario Vet Tech Educators Conference. This conference unites faculty from programs across the province so that they can learn together, share insights, and build relationships that support veterinary technician students through strong, progressive and sustainable programming. Our National Director, Engagement and Practice Services, (and proud RVT) Senani Ratnayake, was invited to be their Keynote Speaker, and it was extra special for her as this year's event was held at the college she herself graduated from (University of Guelph, Ridgetown Campus). Senani spent time with the educators, and also represented us during their exhibit hall, increasing everyone's understanding of all that Vet Alliance has to offer practice teams. The educators loved seeing the variety and scope of CE we offer (along with things like our employee benefits program), and it reinforces for us that we are doing very important work. We support business and team success while allowing veterinary professionals in all roles (including owners) to build competencies and knowledge at every stage of their career.

Thanks so much for the opportunity OVTE!

"WHAT" are you? Have you ever leveraged personality or communication profile assessments with your team? How did it go? Did it appropriately capture who they were, or only tell a portion of the story? Did it resonate well with your team and help them to understand "who" they are, or did it create labels that weren't particularly helpful, only defining "what" they are? Have you avoided doing one because you are concerned about not achieving a constructive and relevant outcome, or having it be something "fun to do" that doesn't really carry any value in the future?
Join us for this session on Wednesday, May 14th from 2-3pm ET, with our National Director, Engagement & Practice Services, Senani Ratnayake. Senani is going to dive into the world of personality and communication assessments, sharing perspectives that will support your ability to make strategic and impactful choices; maximizing outcomes and minimizing risks.

See You May 7th for Office Hours with Dr. Filejski
Last month we were scheduled to host Dr. Catherine Filejski for our quarterly Office Hours series to discuss navigating tariffs, buying Canadian and supply chain insights. Unfortunately, due to illness, we were unable to carry out this important discussion, but we did promise to reschedule as soon as it was possible to do so.
We recognize that things are changing rapidly and what may have been top of mind in March, may be less top of mind now, but the reality is, there is a lot that Dr. Filejski wants to share with us with respect to the state of animal health in Canada; the latest on supply chain and tariffs, political impacts, updates and understanding of pharmacy regulations and allowances, the rise of alternative distribution channels, an update on PFAs regulations/restrictions and so much more.
Important re: registration: If you registered for the origninal session, note that the link has changed. Vet Alliance Members can re-register through the April Noteworthy Newsletter.
