Happy National Veterinary Technician Month to our wonderful, hard working technicians, Allie, Kaitlin and Victoria, and Kiara who is currently enrolled in the Veterinary Technician program at Seneca College.

We are so grateful for our amazing team of technicians who play a vital role at our hospital and are an integral part of our healthcare team. From the exceptional care they provide, the compassion they have for our clients and their beloved fur babies to being highly proficient in areas such as anesthesia and dentistry, we couldn’t do it without them!

Our entire team has worked incredibly hard over the past 18 months handling an unprecedented level of stress and workload as a result of the pandemic.

This month we celebrate and recognize the valuable contributions veterinary technicians make to our profession and society.

Thank you for all you do!

Today marks the first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

The day honours the lost children and survivors of residential schools, their families and communities.

We ask you to join us in taking the time to learn, reflect and commemorate the tragic and painful history and ongoing impacts of residential schools as this is a vital component of the reconciliation process.

Heartworm season is upon us!

Heartworm is a worm parasite that lives in the heart, lungs or blood stream of pets.

It can affect dogs, cats, ferrets and other mammals. Heartworm is transmitted when mosquitoes bite an infected dog, cat or any mammal that has heartworm and can then infect your pet in just one bite.
If untreated, heartworm can multiply and several hundred worms can live inside the pet’s heart. Heartworm can cause damage to the heart, lungs and arteries.

Testing for heartworm is important even if you protect your pet year-round. The damage from a heartworm infection can be lifelong and can have major health implications.

Prevention is the best method in ensuring that your pets will be protected. Cats need prevention as well as they can also get heartworm.

Please contact us today so we can discuss the best preventive medication option for your pet!

Some quick friendly reminders that it's time to prepare for warm weather fun! Stay safe this spring!!!

1. Yard clean up
β€’ Sticks and twigs around the yard are not safe for your pet to chew on. They can cause splinters in the mouth and potentially cause gastrointestinal upset
β€’ Pets like to eat grass. Ensure there are no toxic plants in your yard such as tulips, lilies, daffodils and more. Please refer to this link for a complete list. https://www.petpoisonhelpline.com/pet-owners/basics/top-10-plants-poisonous-to-pets/see for more information on toxic plants.

2. Watch your pet for signs of seasonal allergies
β€’ Some dogs develop allergies to common seasonal plants such as ragweed just like humans can. These types of allergies usually show as skin problems in dogs.

3. Outdoor activities
β€’ Be sure if your pet enjoys swimming outdoors, avoid bodies of water with algae. Stop your pets from drinking outdoor water in ponds and puddles

4. Cleaning products
β€’ Use pet friendly house hold cleaning products or use extra care when storing cleaning products to make sure they’re inaccessible to your pets.
β€’ Antifreeze tastes sweet and pets. Be sure that this is stored well out of reach from inquiring noses
