In terms of seasoning, poplar is known to season relatively quickly compared to other hardwood species. It can take approximately 6-12 months to properly season poplar firewood depending on the size of the pieces and the drying conditions. Properly seasoned firewood should have a moisture content below 20% for optimal burning efficiency and reduced creosote buildup. In good condition and properly seasoned, poplar typically has a BTU (British Thermal Unit) value ranging from 17 to 19 million BTUs per cord.
