First trial weekend of the season went great. we travelled to Prince Edward Island to run the clubs field trial and hunt test. It was so great to see everyone and get caught up!! huge thank you to the PEI retriever club for all your hard work over the weekend. It takes an army to put these events on. Memphis earned another pass towards her title and got a fourth in the qualifying field Trial. Tank ran as test Dog for the field trial and Saturday’s Hunt test and was then successful on Sunday adding another master pass towards his GMH title. Really proud of both of them.

Working with dogs has always been a real passion of mine. I have been blessed over the years to be able to travel and train with friends and pro trainers across Canada and the north eastern United States. These experiences have not only taught me a lot about training dogs, but about their behavior as well. As a life long waterfowl hunter, having a dog to retrieve our birds was essential. My father got our first hunting dog when I was just a boy, “Duke” a black lab, was a good retriever and great house dog.
I bought and trained my first retriever at the age of 17, a yellow lab named Bella. She was a great retriever, upland dog and companion. At age 9 Bella passed away due to cancer. I learned a lot working with her. Early on I realized that obedience would have to be a way of life and the foundation of her training. This is where I began to build my obedience program.
In the spring 2012 Otter came along. She was a leftover 16 week old pup that a family had at the last minute, decided they didn’t want. She has had an outstanding career so far, becoming a “Grand Master Hunter” at the age of three, and continues to amaze me and win peoples hearts.
In the spring of 2013 I started teaching formal obedience classes. The classes and newly offered private lessons have been very successful and my program is highly recommended by those that have taken it. I have had the pleasure of working with several clients with breeds of all shapes and sizes. It has really helped shape my program into what it is today!
In 2015 I also started training my parents yellow lab Reilly. She has been an absolute joy to work with and is not only a very skilled retriever but an excellent therapy dog as well.
In 2017 I had the pleasure of welcoming a new dog in from Ontario. Bruce, owned by Ryan and Catherine Reynolds came to me at 13 weeks old. I worked with him for the following 5 months preparing him for the season ahead. Bruce ended the season just shy of 1000 birds retrieved!
