Time for a not so subtle brag! ☺️ Last month, Dr Brianna went to a Veterinary Dental Forum in Palm Springs to get a little bit more hands on dentistry practice, specifically with extractions. Today, she totally ROCKED removing a broken carnassial tooth from a large breed dog! These are difficult extractions, because while the crown is broken and damaged, the massive roots (and there are 3 of them on this particular tooth!) are healthy and very much set on staying in their cozy home. In case you didn’t know, when we remove teeth on animals, we have to do surgical extractions which means we have to remove bone and section teeth into their individual roots in order to safely remove them. It’s a big procedure, but this big boy will be feeling much happier without that sore tooth. Way to go Dr B!

We’re just about halfway through Senior Wellness Month, and it’s time to meet FINN! 🥳

Finn was diagnosed with Lyme Disease when he was 2 years old. He's managed to live a long, happy and healthy life and is now 8 years old! One of the main concerns we have with Lyme disease is kidney function. Over time if the bacteria is consistently high in the blood, it can cause kidney disease. Unfortunately once kidney disease has started, we cannot reverse or cure it so catching it early is crucial in an attempt to stop or slow progression.

One of the easiest ways to detect early kidney disease is to collect something that you can catch at home, or on the street, or on their favourite tree - depending on your pets preference. That's right, that beautiful golden stream of urine! A urinalysis provides valuable information and is NOT just for diagnosing a suspected urinary tract infection. It has many other benefits that tend to get overlooked. In the case of the kidneys, traces of certain blood proteins and the concentration of the urine can give us an in-depth look at kidney function, and these changes often occur before the levels in the blood. Urinalysis in conjunction with bloodwork gives us a more accurate picture of overall health, which is especially important for a case like Finn.

By regularly completing a urinalysis, we are able to note any changes in kidney function as they happen and if needed, get him started on the best treatment plan to prevent progression of the disease! We’ve got you Finn! 👩‍🔬

And the answer to the question you've all been dying to ask - yes! A urinalysis is included in the discounted health screens offered throughout November for Senior Wellness Month! Yay! Give us a call at the clinic at (306) 554-9663 for more info!🤳

For Part Two of our Senior Month Series, introducing MACY!✨🐕

Macy is an 8 ½ year old Boxer. NOT ONLY is she considered our very own therapy dog, she is also a model patient for the importance of trending values - here’s why:

Throughout Macy’s life as a young adult, she had regular health screening completed and it was noted that her White Blood Cells (WBC’s) were mildly lower than the reference ranges. This would normally be considered atypical, but her health screens have continued to show the same trend. Now that Macy is a senior and the WBC’s have consistently stayed the same, we can determine that this is in fact normal for Macy! 👏👏

In her case we would actually be more concerned if her WBC’s increased into the “normal” reference range. The more information we have as veterinary professionals, the easier it is for us to make the best possible health plan tailored uniquely to your pet. And that folks, is why Macy is a PERFECT example of why starting baseline health screens while your pet is young can give us a lot more information on their overall health as they age! Good girl Macy! 😽

Don’t forget!👩‍🔬 For the month of November we encourage all of our patients UNDER the age of 7 years to enjoy 10% off of their baseline health screen! Hooray!

Can you believe it?? Morty will be turning EIGHT this year - and because pets age differently than humans, they’re considered SENIORS at only SEVEN years young! 🙀🙀

Since Morty is a senior, we provide annual screening for the following:
💪Annual physical examination
💉Comprehensive blood work
👩‍🔬Thyroid levels
🧫Urinalysis
🔬Fecal testing
🐟Diet

Although Morty is not currently due for any vaccinations, annual screening is still important to ensure his health is in tip-top shape! By completing his health screens annually we can:
👩‍🏫Monitor trending of values and get an overview of organ function and detect diseases early
🔎Identify new or changing lumps or bumps that may require further investigation
🦠Microscopically find parasites that can be easily treated
🥕Recommend a diet uniquely formulated for his stage of life

To celebrate our favourite senior citizens, during the month of November we are excited to offer 20% off of your senior pets lab work! 💸 This year, we will also be offering 10% off of lab work for those under 7 years to help us get started in evaluating trends with baseline testing (more info to come!).

Call or message us today for more info! (306) 554-9663. Happy senior month!

Good morning folks!

The Waggin' Wheelz team is in the market for a blender. We don't need it to be fancy - we just need it to work! If you have an old one that is taking up space or waiting to go to the dump, we would love to take it off your hands!

Waggin' Wheelz Veterinary Services celebrates SEVEN years today! Here are some fun facts about our clinic:

👩‍⚕️ We have seven staff members! The Waggin' Wheelz team consists of two veterinarians, two registered vet techs, one veterinary assistant and two receptionists. If you count Morty the clinic cat as our official mascot that makes eight - but his only real 'work' consists of being a general pain in the haunch🐈

👩‍👧‍👧 The clinic started as a team of three - all of which are still here! Jen, RVT, and Kaitlyn, reception, have been with Dr. Kaylee since day one!

🦸‍♀️ Waggin' Wheelz Vet is solely woman owned and operated! With an all female staff, these ladies know how to get the job done! 💪💪 (Special shout out to employee of the month Natasha who got that jar of pickled carrots open by using the special grippy cat gloves!!🙏)

🚑 When the clinic first opened in October of 2017, Dr. Kaylee served less than 300 patients (she started with a solo ambulatory practice). As of today, we care for almost 7,000!

✍️ Every single employee of WWVS has been fired by Dr. Kaylee's daughter Charlee on at least one occasion 🤷‍♀️

Thank you to everyone for your continued support! We truly do love what we do!

🦃Happy Thanksgiving!! A friendly reminder the clinic will be closed today. We will be back in action bright and early tomorrow!🦃

While we're here, we can think of no better time to give thanks and show our appreciation for our two favourite RVTs, Jen and Makyla! October is RVT Month and these majestic creatures deserve each and every day dedicated to them! RVTs are an integral part of every successful veterinary care team, playing a number of roles and carrying out countless functions such as anaesthesiologists, laboratory technicians and analysts, patient advocates, dental assistants and hygienists, nurse practitioners, pharmaceutical techs, inventory managers, dietitians and many, many more!

Depending on the reason for your visit, our RVTs may be the only members of the team you see - while other times you would never know they were there. Either way, you can be sure their hard work and dedication is helping to keep your pet happy and healthy! We love you guys!!
