A wonderful week to finish off our 2024 season! A huge congrats to our small but mighty team on their hard work & great success in large competitive classes.

Madison Parks & White Russian worked as a team to put in consistently good rounds (and beat the "curse" of falling off at Playoffs). It was a lovely finish to this partnership's show career.

Delya Gaffney unfortunately had to leave her qualified horse at home but a few teammates graciously volunteered their horses. With only two jump schools under their belt Delya & White Russian earned a

Catherine Greene continued to work hard (and always with a smile) with her lovely mare, A Little De Ja Vu to claim some much deserved ribbons. A wonderful finish to this team's season!

EJF Silver Show #5

"Sometimes adversity is what you need to face in order to become successful"

Our last show of the regular season was a whirlwind of highs and lows. With less than ideal weather, a new rider and a new horse there were humbling moments, winning rides, unplanned dismounts, accomplished goals and multiple qualified riders for Playoffs 2024 to wrap it up!

Jennifer Brockwell & Outside Chance put together their best rounds yet! Earning three 🏅FIFTH place divisions in the Xrail Jumper division plus a 🏅SIXTH in the Xrail Hunters.

Kaelyn Stronach & Toby's Bankers Copy joined us for the final Silver Show after spending the summer on our schooling team. It was a wild introduction with less than ideal weather and a horse who struggled with the stabling. However, Kaelyn was open to learning, watched hours of classes, logged more saddle time than ever before and put in a great effort for all her classes. Looking forward to supporting Kaelyn with her 2025 goals!

As always it was a pleasure to support each rider and watch the success ring side all summer long!

MAGNOLIA

"Maggie" 15.2hh, 21 year old mare by Mattgold. Maggie is the best teacher with a trot to die for! Hack winner, extensive dressage background and auto changes with lots of step for the lines (but also super adjustable, packed around a nervous xrail amateur with a double add). Don't let her age fool you, she loves to work and horse show. Must stay in front shoes due to a club foot. Minimal maintenance for her age but loves a regular massage schedule. Lives in or out, no vices. Maggie is an amazing teacher from the Hack division to the xrails to the 2'3 hunters. Don't miss out on this barn favourite!

Sap n' Sugar Moon

"Sammy" is a 10 year old 14.1hh, chestnut gelding. A lovely all-around type who has sadly been outgrown. Simple kick type to flat & jump, loves to hack, goes in a simple snaffle. Almost auto changes. Perfect pony for xrails-childrens pony (also happily plays in the little jumpers), lots of step but prefer to stay under 2'6 height. Requires front shoes with pads and unfortunately being shod is his only vice. We have been able to easily manage but can discuss with serious parties. A great pony looking to help teach another kid!

"Yogi" is the ultimate babysitter! Standing at 16hh, 16 yr old, grey TB gelding. Kick & spur type, looking for a job 2'6 or under. Easy to jumps, no prep, auto change, loves to hack. Has lots of miles in the hunter & equitation rings. A real dream to have in the barn. Does best when shod all around. Prefers to live outside, as he will crib/weave in a stall. He does have some extra maintenance but the cost of such has been incorporated into his lease fee. Don't miss out on this perfect teacher!

ADK's Rebel Without a Cause

JD is a 16hh, 16 yr old, bay TB gelding. Showed the Puddle Hunters & .6m jumpers in 2021 and was always a good boy. Since then he has been worked very inconsistently. Easy to walk/trot & hack but requires a more experienced rider to canter & jump. He has a large step & gets a little excited when jumping but has never spooked, bucked etc. Currently barefoot but does benefit from shoes & chiro when worked regularly. JD is a super friendly, goofy, loveable gelding but unfortunately is too advanced for our lesson program.

Apria is a gorgeous grey 17hh, 14 year old CSH (Apiro x Rio Rosa) mare. This mare is a lovely mover, who enjoys dabbling in all 3 rings. Successfully showing 2'6/2'9 this season with the scope and experience for more. Auto change, kick type ride that happily goes in a simple snaffle. She loves to hack and has always been well behaved (at home & shows), zero prep. No vices but does enjoys lots of turnout. Minimal age appropriate maintenance. This mare could easily take someone from the 2'3 ring all the way to the 3' ring!

Schooling Show #2 (Flat Rock Stables)

"Persistence and resilience only come from having been given the chance to work through difficult problems"

The sun might have been shining for our Schooling Team but there was no shortage of puddles!

Although less than ideal, the whole team was provided with the opportunity to practice a valuable skill - RESILIENCE.

Showing (and riding in general) is about learning how to gracefully deal with ever changing and sometimes less than ideal circumstances.
Not every horse & rider were confident about splashing 💦 around in the puddles. It might have been difficult (or even disappointing) at the time but these are the experiences that teach us the most! In the end they all persevered, dug deep, showed some grit and got the job done. Congrats ADK Riders!

The "ADK" Award

Last year we were inspired to start an award to honour the attributes that make a great team member and horseman/women. We created the "ADK" Award, presented to riders who display ambition, dedication & kindness.

In the hustle & bustle, it's something that admittedly hasn't been at the forefront of my mind until recently.

A few weeks ago I had a great conversation with a young member of our team. We discussed her show results, her goals and her "most proud/happy" moment from the show. Along with her own big goals, she is so happy to see her teammates succeeded.

It's my pleasure to present the "ADK" Award to Ada Mandigo.

We strive to provide the best environment for our rider's development and it was pleasure to watch them flourish at their first show of the year!

🌧EJF Silver Show #2🌧

Our June show at EJF was a wet one!

Our team was resilient and flexible as we made adjustments on the fly given the less than ideal conditions. Our riders all practiced what we preach ensuring horse and rider safety was put first before points and ribbons. We all came home with good results regardless, no injuries and the confidence to tackle the mud in the future (but hopefully not anytime soon)!

Thank you to all the parents, grooms & the EJF staff for enduring the weather and working tirelessly to make the best out of a soggy situation!

At ADK we strive to create a team atmosphere in an otherwise individualized sport. We aim to lead by example, to cheer on everyone and celebrate everyone's wins regardless of how your day is going personally. We have open group discussions about strengths, weaknesses and goals to keep each other accountable and encourage everyone to keep working. Our goal is community.

Following our show last weekend I asked a younger member of our team. "What were you most proud of/happiest about at the show?"

Her response "That my friends got rewards (meaning Champ/Res.Champ) at the show."

DRESS REHEARSAL 2024

A few weekends ago we hosted a "Dress Rehearsal" for our Schooling Team. Our growing team of 10 competitors dressed up in their show gear, practiced braiding, cleaned their tack & put their best foot forward despite terrible weather conditions. We practiced memorizing our courses, how to enter the ring, how to ride a flat class all while riding in the wind & rain.

Thank you to our grooms who withstood the weather, kept a smile on their faces and were so helpful in preparing our Schooling Team.

And a huge Thank You to our judge Mel Gromoff! As per usual Mel shared her wealth of knowledge, pinning our classes and explaining her decisions with direct & insightful feedback. Parents & riders walked away with a better understanding of how the judging works and what to improve on during their weekly lessons.

The ADK Schooling Team is ready & excited to attend their first show of the season this weekend!

COMING TOGETHER IS A BEGINNING
We are lucky to have a team of dedicated riders that have joined together for 2024. They share similar goals of personal improvement, consistent performance and good horsemanship. We work intricately with our great support system of parents, peers, bodyworkers, vets and farriers.

KEEPING TOGETHER IS PROGRESS
Our team works together daily putting in the hardwork and encouraging each other along the way. They are dedicated to the ADK program, work closely with our support team and trust the process to reach their goals.

WORKING TOGETHER IS SUCCESS
And all this ⬆️ is evident in everyone's success at our first show of the year. There were multiple ribbons and a few tricolour finishes. But most importantly every single rider wrote out their goals and committed to their plan. This commitment resulted in accomplished goals, huge gains and personal bests for every rider!
