Thank you to all the families that have supported the Shelter through adoption, old and new. It has been a difficult year for pets across Canada and no different here at the shelter. However, adoptions always put a smile on your face. Especially visits from former shelter pets in their new thriving environment. Thank you Barney for the quick visit and the kisses yesterday, lol. Here are some of the recent pets that have now found their new home this month so far. Not pictured, Carla and Tip, they were the current longest residents of the shelter. They both came in April of 2024.

Just a friendly reminder that the Shelter does not do adoptions the week before Christmas Day. Pets are first and foremost a responsibility and need to be committed to. The Holidays are a busy time of year and can be full of impulse buying. Please be more thoughtful when searching for a pet during this time of year.

Are you looking for a new puppy? Here is some good information on the potential costs.

Adding a new cat or dog to the family can be an exciting moment for everyone!

It's also important for a family to review if they are prepared to best support their new family member to thrive before they decide to bring them home - this includes providing on-going food, shelter, health care, and of course love for the new addition.

If you are planning for a new cat or dog, what do those costs really look like? Here's a peak into some of the costs for just the first year of pet ownership.

Not included in this image? The time required to care for, train, and offer enrichment to the animal, unforeseen emergency costs, the life long commitment a family makes to an animal, and of course all the love and joy the animal will offer your family in return 🧡🐾

Meet Bucko! He's been at the shelter for a few weeks now and has been a pleasure to get to know. He is Shepherd mix and just over 3 months old. He's more on the social side. Might be shy for minute and then it's play time. He's doing better on a leash but he does require a lot of training as he's just a pup. He does a pretty good job at sitting if you have a treat in hand. He's been at the Boys and Girls Club and enjoyed meeting all the kids. He did come with a female litter mate who has since been adopted.

If you are interested in adoption, please visit yorktonspca.com, go to How To Adopt, select Our Dogs, and Apply Now.

As of late, there has been a higher amount of missing cats throughout Yorkton. Particularly in the Wellington Avenue and Bailey Drive areas. Please, keep your Feline friends on your property because so many are not making it home.

Meet Pixie and Pepper. Not litter mates, just friends who play hard and can handle each other. Pixie is the more dominant one but Pepper can hold her own during play. Both girls are listed as approximately 6 month old Shepherd mixes. Both in need of training but are both very loving to their human friends. They are still very jumpy, but with proper training, it could be corrected. If you are interested in either pup, visit yorktonspca.com/our-dogs.html to submit your application on them and other dogs at the Shelter.

Are you looking for a security guard/alarm system? Meet Georgie, he comes with a built in system and is your typical little dog with big attitude. He is a 4.5 year old, Dachshund/Chihuahua cross. He was a puppy during Covid and because of that he wasn't socialized like he should have been. He does have some command training, although "No George!" doesn't seem to be on that list. He does take some time to get to know you and is especially nervous of men. He's cautious around all people but tends to warm up to women quicker. He would benefit from a quieter environment. We don't know how he is with small children so caution would be advised. He does enjoy his bathroom walks, we found out he is very fond of fetch, and following his humans friends everywhere, lol. If you are interested in Georgie, visit yorktonspca.com/our-dogs.html to submit your application for him and the other dogs at the Shelter.
