Here’s what to watch out for to keep your dog safe and happy this season: 1️⃣ Salt and Grit: De-icing salt can irritate your dog’s paws or cause harm if licked. After walks, wipe their paws clean to avoid discomfort or ingestion. 2️⃣ Frostbite and Hypothermia: Dogs, especially smaller or short-haired breeds, can be vulnerable to extreme cold. Invest in a cozy coat and limit outdoor time during freezing weather. 3️⃣ Frozen Water Hazards: Steer clear of frozen ponds or lakes. Ice may not be as strong as it looks, posing a risk to both you and your dog. 4️⃣ Antifreeze Danger: Spilled antifreeze is toxic but smells sweet to dogs.
