On their migration from the Scandinavian breeding areas to the south, mountain finches stop where they find many booknuts. Birds can currently be observed in our region.

Bergfinken machen auf ihrem Zug von den skandinavischen Brutgebieten nach Süden dort Halt, wo sie viele Buchnüsschen finden. Zurzeit sind die Vögel in unserer Region zu beobachten.

bout 5.0–5.5 inches in length, the male and female are similar in colouration, with an orange breast and face lined with grey, brown upper-parts and a whitish belly. It is found across Europe, east to Western Siberia and south to North Africa; it is sedentary in most of its range except the far north.

Das Rotkehlchen besiedelt Nordafrika, Europa und Kleinasien sowie die Mittelmeerinseln. Seine Nahrung besteht vor allem aus Insekten, kleinen Spinnen, Würmern und Schnecken. Sein Gesang beginnt etwa eine Stunde vor Sonnenaufgang und ist bis in die Dämmerung fast das ganze Jahr über zu hören. Die Art gilt derzeit als ungefährdet.

They usually nest in tree holes, although they easily adapt to nest boxes where necessary. Their main rival for nests and in the search for food is the larger and more common great tit.
