Increasing Fertility and Nutrition with Dohnes at Green Creek
They leased the 12,000-hectare property for the first five years, then decided to run their own sheep, trialling Dohnes and Merinos.
It was a steep learning curve in the first few years, but they soon learnt which breed was able to not only survive, but thrive in western country.
“What we discovered was that the Dohnes won on producing more lambs, with a lot of twins or triplets, and from the Merinos, we were lucky to get one lamb,” Mrs Robson said.

It has been a lifelong vision to breed high performing sheep. We also believe in evaluation of our genetics. There is no greater authority in our country if not the world than the Australian Merino Sire Evaluation Association for merino type sheep trials.

It was a big thrill to read the latest Merino Superior Sires publication, no 26, finding out that one of our rams now sits at no 18 in the All time Dual Purpose + rank. There are three South Australian bred rams above him. Congratulations to Calcookara, Tuckwood Poll and Roemahkita Poll studs. This means that Glen Holme 141077 is the highest ranking performance ram from the Mid North of SA.

This result is due to the outstanding performance of his daughters in the Merino Lifetime Productivity project. These ewes had been outperforming the average of their peers at Balmoral by 33% for weaning weight per ewe joined and 23% for number of lambs weaned by their second lambing.
