WHO WE ARE
Charlie's Angels Animal Rescue CR is an animal rescue project in Costa Rica founded by four women with one thing in common: an unconditional love of animals. They met one day while volunteering at a local spay & neuter clinic in a small mountain

village and, because of their common concern for abandoned and neglected animals, decided to form the organization. Charlie's Angels Animal Rescue CR offers temporary care and residence for abandoned dogs and cats, that are often in an extreme physical condition or victims of abuse. Once the recovery is complete, the animal will be given up for adoption, only after being vaccinated, spayed or neutered by our organization. Charlie’s Angels Animal Rescue CR survives thanks to the contribution of volunteers and donors, who care about abandoned, abused or neglected animals. Some volunteers provide their professional assistance in areas such as fundraising, educational workshops, spay and neuter clinics etc. Others simply provide affection and love to the dogs by taking care of their daily needs. Charlie's Angels Animal Rescue CR has no financial partners or fixed income. Every day we work hard to try to get the necessary funds together in order to continue on our mission. HOW DOES CHARLIE’S ANGELS WORK? Charlie’s Angels is a foster home based rescue organisation for dogs and cats, who are often victims of extreme cases of abuse and neglect, in need of temporary shelter and rehabilitation. All the animals taken in by our organization are given a complete health check, before moving into foster homes. Once the animal is fully recovered and re-socialized, it will be given up for responsible adoption within Costa Rica, or possibly in the USA and Canada. THE 3 CHARLIE’S ANGELS PROGRAMS:

1. Spay & neuter clinics

These campaigns are carried out regularly in the rural neighborhood and also in surrounding villages. We offer the community the possibility to have their dogs and cats (male and female) fixed at a reduced cost, offering discounts to pet owners with low incomes. The price includes post-operative drugs and care. All surgeries are performed by a veterinarian who is licensed by the Costa Rican Professional Veterinary Association. The vets are trained and authorized to safely perform these operations.

2. Foster care homes

This program consists of placing neglected and abused animals in the temporary shelter of a foster family, if we have an overflow in our rescue centre. Charlie’s Angels Animal Rescue CR offers the volunteering families in this program a monthly package of food, de-worming pills and other required medical attention. A dog bed or crate is also supplied to make the animal feel comfortable and at home. A volunteer from Charlie’s Angels regularly visits the foster home to give support, supervision, and assistance.

3. Final adoption

Thanks to our constant social media presence and international networking, Charlie’s Angels Animal Rescue CR finds permanent homes for our rescued dogs throughout Costa Rica and also in the United States and Canada. All animals that are put up for adoption are spayed / neutered, vaccinated, de-wormed and in good general health. We take the adoption process very seriously and only give our animals to people who are willing to fill out our adoption questionnaire, share photos of themselves and their home and have no issue with paying an adoption fee. Our adoption fee helps to recover veterinary and food costs incurred by each rescue case and assures us that the adopter is serious and has the financial means to maintain a dog. Our organization would not be able to survive on donations alone. HOW CAN YOU BECOME AN "Angel for CHARLIE”? Contact us to join our team of foster parents. You can assist at workshops or neutering / spaying clinics. You can donate materials, food, and funds to help towards our programs and you can help us by being a flight - or transportation volunteer. You can also help us by promoting us and our dogs by sharing our posts on social media. PURA VIDA * LOVE * COMPASSION!

On Sunday, we received a call from a man who had found 4 puppies in a cardboard box on the side of the road.
The man took them home on his motorbike. He built them a puppy pen and cared for them as best he could. He contacted us because he had no money to take them to the vet or buy them proper puppy food.

We went straight there to look at the puppies and saw four beautiful little babies with bloated tummies, covered in fleas and with lots of bald patches in their fur due to malnutrition.

Today they were at Santivet for a check-up.

We have 3 girls and one boy. They are about two months old.

They have been dewormed and treated for ticks and fleas. We have bought them a bag of high quality puppy food.

We will keep you posted on these adorable 4! We are sure they will be ready for adoption soon!

Our funds are really tight at the moment, we are really struggling to pay the bills. If you have a little money to spare, please send us a donation.

We have so many new cases, some of them with expensive operations, please help us so that we can continue operating without sleepless nights.

Here's a little update on Mylo!

Thanks to Allison and Tim, the couple who run the Cafe “Latte Lounge” in San Isidro (formerly known as Gratitude), who have agreed to foster Mylo, he is now thriving in his foster home.

Mylo has been thoroughly groomed to get rid of all the knots and tangles in his hair, and he is loving his new life as a spoiled foster dog in a family home.

He is super happy in his crate and loves to play with his foster brother! He sometimes gets to hang out at the Cafe and is very well behaved and friendly to all dogs and cats there.

He had his follow up today at SantiVet and Dr Adriana was very pleased to see her patient doing so well. Mylo has already put on a kilo! His paws are still swollen but he is definitely on the mend.

As soon as he is fit enough to be neutered, we will have that done and then put him up for adoption.

Allison raves about Mylo, he is playful and friendly, easy to take care of. He loves to give kisses, get belly rubs and be held, but he will go lay down quietly if you need to work and don't pay him attention!

We can't wait to see who will be the lucky one to adopt this little gem!

And another foster home is needed, this time for Mylo.

This poor boy has been living in terrible conditions in his previous owners' home, tied up around the clock and completely neglected.

When he was rescued, his paws were super sore and swollen. His coat matted and full of tangles and he is clearly underweight.
Mylo currently weighs 4.5 kilo, but should be at least 6kg when back on track.

Mylo has been to the vet for several days and is now feeling much better. Our vet estimates he is 3-5 years old.

Tomorrow he will be groomed thoroughly.
We are urgently looking for a nice foster home for Mylo so that he can recover from his neglect.
He goes potty outside and has a very calm and friendly disposition. Great with dogs and kids! 🤍

Anywhere in Pérez Zeledón or Costa Ballena works 🙏🏼

Please consider being part of Mylo’s rescue story 🐾

Urgent! Foster Homes Needed for These Sweet Pups!

They were found abandoned on the street in Rivas, wet and hungry. They are currently being kept in a garage, where they are allowed to stay for one night.

We believe it’s a mother and her puppy—both small in size. They will be checked by a vet tomorrow and then need a place to stay. They can be fostered together or separately, whichever works best!

We’ll cover all costs for food and any medical expenses—they just need a safe space to rest and recover.

If you’re able to open your home to one or both of these pups, please reach out!

Little Carlos Needs a Home or Temporary Foster!

Carlos was living on the streets of Guadalupe de Rivas, and we saw him nearly hit by a car twice in just one hour during our spay and neuter clinic 😬.
One of his hind legs is already broken, and he walks on three legs, so we took him in before it was too late. We’re so glad we did!

ABOUT CARLITOS:
This sweet senior is small (6 kg / 13 lbs), super friendly, and playful with other dogs, despite his age and injury. He loves his fluffy dog bed and is always full of joy!

We've dewormed, vaccinated, and treated him for fleas and ticks. He’s even had a dental cleaning, with some bad teeth removed, so he’s feeling much better.

Next week, we’ll do X-rays to determine if his broken leg should be amputated, as it’s an old injury that has already healed incorrectly.
But we urgently need a foster or forever home!

His current foster can’t keep him much longer due to travel.
Carlos is easygoing, affectionate, and ready for a safe and happy home.

He’s already neutered and all set to start his new chapter!

📍 Currently fostered in Rivas / PZ

PALOMA🤍

Meet Paloma! 🐾

Paloma is a sweet 3-year-old Australian Shepherd mix, weighing about 15 kg. She’s spayed, fully house-trained, and
ready to find her forever home! 🤍🤍🤍

Paloma and her sister Rosita were sadly left behind when their owner, an expat, moved to the beach. For weeks, they lived at a construction site where kind workers fed them.

Thankfully, we were able to adopt out Rosita and place Paloma in a loving foster home where she has been for several weeks now, and she’s thriving!

She’s a super relaxed, chilled dog who gets along wonderfully with the seven other dogs she lives with. She’s a dream indoors—no chewing, no accidents, and she absolutely loves lounging in her dog bed. She can be trusted off-leash, always staying close to her human.

Paloma is calm, super affectionate and well-mannered, she would make a great companion for anyone looking for an easy-going, medium size dog. She’s ready to bring her laid-back vibes to a loving forever home!

Contact us to arrange a meeting and see if Paloma is the perfect addition to your family. She is currently fostered in Perez Zeledon, but we can help you organise transport.

TEDDY UPDATE!

Firstly, a BIG THANK YOU to everyone who has contributed to Teddy's vet bill! We really appreciate your support. 💕🐾🙏🏼

Since our last post, there have been some changes to Teddy's treatment plan. Originally the vet thought the best option was to amputate his left leg. However, after further x-rays, the vets at Corral del Sol discovered that Teddy's right hip was suffering from a dislocation. 😔

This makes amputation out of the question, as he would not have proper support on the other side.

Dr Felipe has now recommended repairing both the dislocated right hip and the fractures in Teddy's left leg. Unfortunately, this will make his recovery much harder and will take months.

To make matters more complicated, one of the fractures in his left leg was an open fracture and the wound had a significant infection. Teddy was given strong antibiotics, so we had to wait until the infection had cleared up before we could proceed with the operation.

On Wednesday, Teddy's left leg was successfully operated on and a metal plate was inserted to give him the necessary stability and support his injured hip.

We are now waiting for Teddy to start putting weight on the operated leg and with good fortune the vets will be able to proceed with the hip operation next week.

The staff at Corral de Sol is amazed at what a good boy he is…so friendly and co-operative!

Thank you once again from the bottom of our hearts for helping Teddy. We will keep you informed of his progress.

Since Teddy's operations are now much more complex than expected and his recovery will take a long time, we are still very grateful for donations for Teddy.

We were especially happy that we had so many cats!

Our team of volunteers was absolutely amazing and made the whole day pass by like a breeze, despite the heavy storm in the afternoon!

Thank you everyone 🙏🏼

Teddy Needs Your Help! 🙏🏼 please share!

This poor soul was found at Playa Linda, right next to the highway 2, with a severely injured leg.
It appears Teddy, as we named him, had been abandoned, waiting for his human to return…

His back leg has a gruesome open fracture, with the bone exposed and the wound badly infected. His leg is just dangling from his hip. 😔

X-rays revealed two severe fractures. It’s possible Teddy was hit by a car—maybe even twice…

We’re not sure if he was dumped because of his injury and then got hurt again, but we learned he was seen wandering up and down the highway, likely searching for his owner, before eventually collapsing on the beach, unable to walk.

Teddy has been nothing but friendly and submissive since he was rescued.

Unfortunately, his leg is so damaged that amputation is the only option.😔

We rescued Teddy yesterday and brought him to Corral del Sol Vet Clinic in San Isidro. His surgery is scheduled for tomorrow, Monday Oct 7th, where he will also be neutered, and we’ll run bloodwork and tests for heartworm and other conditions.

While we don’t yet have an exact estimate, Teddy’s vet bill will likely be several hundred dollars, money we simply don’t have available at the moment.

We’re asking for your help to cover the costs of his surgery and care.🙏🏼

If you can, please donate to help Teddy:

Any support, no matter how small, will make a big difference in getting Teddy back to happiness. We are sure he will adapt quickly and won’t have a problem with one leg missing, especially because it’s one of the hint legs.

He’s one of the saddest dogs we’ve seen in a while, and with your help, we can give him the chance he deserves.

Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity. 🙏🏼

Meet Max and Ziggy

Breed: Rottweiler cross
Estimated age 9 weeks.

Ziggy 2.6kg FEMALE
Max 2.2kg MALE

Treated for fleas, ticks, worms.
Tested for ringworm, parvo, Guardia
Had First puppy vaccination - booster due Oct 16th

📍Fostered in Matapalo (near Domi)

These two babies were found being abandoned and neglected by the beach.

They were frightened, listless, dehydrated and very hungry. Both had skin infections caused by fleas but their fur is growing back nicely and the lesions are getting less every day. 🙏🏼

They have quickly responded to food and love and seem to have totally forgotten their rough start. 🙏🏼

Max and his sister Ziggy spend all day every day in a cycle of play, eat, sleep repeat. The 10 year old son of the foster family is super excited to have them around, so they get plenty of kid action as well as love.

Clare, the foster mum tells us that potty training is going really well, they are starting to come when they are called.
They both love cuddles, Ziggy likes to try to sleep on human feet or in a warm lap whenever she can. She has the most beautiful face.

Max is fluffier than his sister and is brilliant at coming when he's called.

Contact us to arrange a meeting and see Ziggy or Max are the pups you were waiting for.

This little guy was reported to us when he turned up at a lady's house in desperate need of help.
He was abandoned when he was only 5 months old and came to the house looking for food and water.
All his ribs were showing, he was full of parasites and had no energy.

Today Ollie is a happy and super-fun guy, he loves life and plays and romps with his pretty foster sister Tilda.

Ollie was lucky because we were able to find a great foster home for him where he enjoys homemade food, lots of love and playtime in the big garden!

We had Ollie vet checked and neutered. His vaccinations are up to date and he is more than ready to move in with his new family!

If you are looking for a smart little dog who is easy to care for, friendly to everyone, loves to play with other dogs and is always happy to be with you, then Ollie could be the one for you.

29/09/2024

Dear Charlie's Angels friends,

Here is an update on Lenny, one of the most serious and heartbreaking cases we’ve encountered this year.
Lenny is the dog we rescued beginning of August with a colossal wound on his back.

Since we rescued him nearly two months ago, Lenny has been under the dedicated care of Dr. Adriana at the SantiVet clinic in San Isidro.

Dr. Adriana and her assistant Valerie have been going above and beyond to heal this huge wound.🙏🏼

We’re not entirely sure what happened to Lenny, as a significant portion of his back was skinned off, and his tail was cut, with the trail bone exposed, but we’re happy to report that Lenny has been a true champion through his recovery process. 💪🏼

Dr. Adriana even takes Lenny home every weekend, where he gets to run around her garden and play with her dogs. However, he’s not allowed outside for too long, as the risk of infection, particularly from the screwworm fly, is still too high.
To protect him, Dr. Adriana’s mother made him a special cape to prevent the fly from landing on his wound and laying eggs. 🙏🏼

In the before and current photos, you’ll see how beautifully the wound is healing, though it will still take more time before Lenny makes a full recovery. Dr. Adriana speaks very highly of Lenny, describing him as a brave, gentle and friendly dog who’s deeply grateful for all the care he’s receiving.

It will be quite some time before Lenny is ready for adoption, and his vet costs already exceed the donations we’ve received for his care so far. We are kindly asking for your help to cover the ongoing costs for Lenny’s treatment.

We also want to clarify Lenny’s care. There was initially a plan for him to be transferred to a rescue in Cartago (Red Rescate/Michelle Denisse Jimenez), and she even began fundraising for his case reffering to Lenny as Hansel.
However, Red Rescate/Michelle Denisse Jimenez never received Lenny, nor has she incurred any costs whatsoever related to his treatment.
Lenny will remain with us at Charlie's Angels, where he will continue receiving the care he needs.

If you donated to her fundraiser for Lenny (aka Hansel) we kindly ask that you reach out to us privately so we can verify whether those funds have been transferred to Charlie’s Angels to help with his care.

Thank you all for your continued support, love, and understanding.

And a BIG SHOUT OUT to Dr Adriana and the staff at SantiVet for doing an incredible job!!!!

We're happy to announce our upcoming spay & neuter clinic for cats and dogs, which is part of our monthly pop-up clinics.

The clinic will take place on October 06, 2024, in Guadalupe de Rivas / Perez Zeledon

We have been holding these clinics since 2014 and they are one of the most important fields of our rescue work to control overpopulation in our community.

A professional veterinary team from San Jose will perform the surgeries, and our volunteer team will provide the necessary support to ensure the safety and comfort of the animals during the procedure.

Please let your neighbors and friends know about this special opportunity to have their pets fixed at a very fair price.

We also offer reduced prices for pet owners with low income and free surgeries for our rescued animals who have not been adopted yet.

That’s why we need your support to hold these clinics, and we appreciate any donation you can provide so we are able to cover these costs.

Any amount helps us…so if you have a little extra we would be extremely grateful for any support.

Hello friends!

Please help us find a new place for Roxy! 🤍

The sweet girl is recovering very well from her surgery (she had a serious fracture in her front leg), thanks to everyone who donated torwards her vet bill! 🙏🏼

Roxy is the most amazing and kind dog, as Stephanie, her current foster mum describes her.

But unfortunately Stephanie can no longer keep Roxy as her plans have changed.

So we are looking for a foster or a forever home for this beautiful gentle girl.

Roxy is medium sized, fully house trained, doesn't chew on things and doesn't bark much.

She is calm and very sweet and playful with dogs, friendly and a little shy with people, but very, very affectionate.

Roxy loves belly rubs and sleeps perfectly in her dog bed at night.

She is already using her leg, she still limps a little, but the vet is sure she will soon be walking normally again.

📍She is currently fostered in Pérez Zeledón

Can you take Roxy into care?

Dear Followers…

ROXY NEEDS YOUR HELP 🙏🏼🐾

Meet Roxy, a sweet young dog who was found on the side of the road, trembling in unbearable pain.
When we saw the videos of her, it broke our hearts—her cries were gut-wrenching.

X-rays showed a severe fracture in her front leg that required urgent surgery. We also checked her spine to make sure she had no other injuries, and thankfully, the X-rays confirmed the vertebrae was unharmed.

Dr. Felipe performed surgery and implanted a metal plate in her leg. The surgery went well, and you could see the relief in Roxy’s eyes—finally, the pain was starting to fade. 🙏🏼

The woman who found Roxy offered to foster her once she was stable, which was a huge relief since finding foster homes for dogs in need is often a challenge.

After two weeks of care at the vet, Roxy was spayed and is now in foster care with Stephanie, who is showering her with the love and attention she deserves.

Roxy has been nothing but amazing throughout everything. ❤️
She knows she’s been given a second chance and is so grateful for all the care she is receiving.

Now, we REALLY need YOUR help.

Roxy’s vet bills have come to 450,000 colones (around $870), which is a significant amount for our small rescue.

Can you help us cover Roxy’s medical costs?

Any donation, big or small, will make a huge difference in helping us cover these costs and give Roxy the future she deserves.

We are incredibly grateful for every bit of support.

Cases like Roxy’s put a big strain on our finances, but seeing her recover makes it all worthwhile.

We've already reported on Henry's story, now here's a very delightful update on this adorable little chap!

Henry was the dog we found on the street, unable to walk, with his both his hunt legs straight and dragging behind him. When we rescued him, we were deeply concerned that he might remain paralyzed.

After the vet had taken x-rays, it turned out that Henry had a fracture in his hip and also in his vertebral column. At first we were crushed, but relieved when we learnt that Henry's recovery could be achieved without surgery - just with a lot of rest and attentive care.

Thankfully, Pascal saw our post about Henry’s need for a good foster home and immediately stepped up to help. As soon as Henry was released by the vet, Pascal welcomed him with open arms.

She provided Henry with the love, nourishment, and daily massages that he needed to heal.

And then, the miracle we all hoped for happened—after just a few days, Henry began to walk again!

Today, he is completely cured, without even a limp or any limitations. Henry is now neutered, fully vaccinated, and dewormed.

Pascal has grown very fond of her little protégé and has shared nothing but glowing reports about Henry.

He’s fully house-trained and will let you know when he needs to go outside. Henry is incredibly intelligent, eager to please, and affectionate with everyone he meets—adults and children alike. He absolutely loves being with humans and is always happy to receive all the affection they give him.

He enjoys playing with dogs his size and is great on a leash. Henry absolutely loves going for walks—it’s his favorite activity!

If you are looking for a smart little dog who is easy to care for, friendly to everyone, loves to play with dogs and is always happy to be with you, Henry could be the one for you.

A big THANK YOU to Pascal and her husband for caring for Henry so effectively. Without people like you we could never achieve these miracles!

Contact us to arrange a meeting and see if Henry is the perfect addition to your family. Hery is currently fostered in Perez Zeledon, but we can help you organise transport.
