Sasha's Shelter A shelter for over 750 abandoned dogs. Become a Patron for just $10 per month

Over the past 14 years, Sasha Pesic has saved over 1500 dogs around the city of Nis, Serbia. The majority of the dogs were rescued from cruel conditions, they were abused and on the verge of death. Over 700 dogs have been happily adopted and are enjoying their new lives - full of love, safety and joy. The rest of Sasha’s 750 dog pack is, however, still in two improvised shelters in Nis, left to be

managed solely by Sasha’s unconditional love for these creatures. He knows every dog by name, gives them over 8 hours of outdoor time a day, and has dedicated his life to keeping every dog happy, healthy, and alive. Unfortunately, love alone will not feed, vaccinate and provide infrastructure for these dogs and that is why we are reaching out for help. Sasha’s Shelter’s only chance of becoming sustainable is to develop a stable monthly income. You can help Sasha by becoming his Patron on patreon.com/sashashelter

🚨 AN URGENT MESSAGE FROM SASHA - NEWEST RESCUE 🚨

I rescued this poor, poor, senior Golden Retriever trying to cross a busy street filled with cars. He was lucky not to be hit 😓

I immediately took him to the vet for a checkup, and the results were devastating.

He is mostly blind, with severely impaired vision. He has infected wounds, ossification of the spine, a tumor, an ear infection, and poor blood counts. At 16 years old, he was abandoned in this terrible condition—left to fend for himself in the cold, with no food or water, and almost run over by a car 💔

It breaks my heart to see how someone could betray their faithful companion like this, discarding him when he needed them most. I need your help to cover his veterinary costs and therapies, food, etc... Every contribution counts. Please, let’s show him the kindness he deserves 🙏

Johnny, a 14-year-old senior with a heart full of gratitude, wants to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas Eve! 🎄🎁 This sweet, silver-faced pup has recently been happily adopted 🤗

With every gentle wag of his tail, Johnny reminds us all of the true meaning of the holidays: love and compassion 🥰

Johnny is a huge cuddle bug, always seeking the comfort of a soft spot to curl up, his paws resting as he settles into the warmth of his forever home. Though his journey to this place wasn't always easy, his spirit has never wavered. Now, surrounded by love and care, Johnny finally knows what it feels like to truly belong ☺️

Johnny’s new life wouldn’t have been possible without the kindness of those who shared his photo featured on our recent Gofundme fundraiser and thanks to the generosity of others who passed it along, sweet senior was able to find his forever home 🐶 🏡 It’s a reminder that sharing about a fundraiser, even just a picture, can change everything for an animal in need.

A GIFT 💝 FOR SASHA’S BIRTHDAY 🥳

More than 15 years ago, Sasha was at a landfill when he heard some pitiful cries.
Looking for the source he found 4 puppies covered in trash. He could not believe the cruelty of people that would deliberately dump these innocents to die from starvation and exposure.

He took the frail little ones to his apartment. They thrived under his care. 💖

People heard about this man who loved animals - they began dumping puppies in front of his apartment. Then came phone calls about injured dogs, chained dogs , starving abused dogs - all needing a savior.

And so it began. A sanctuary was born. 🌟

Sasha is still taking care of over 700 dumped and abandoned dogs.
Sasha never expected his life to change so drastically but he has dedicated his life to all these innocent dogs who need daily care.

Together, we can honor the tireless work of a true hero and give unwanted dogs a second chance at life. 🐶🐾

Let’s make this birthday one to remember — for Sasha and for the dogs he loves so much.

Thanks to your sharing I was offered the opportunity of a lifetime! I can leave the shelter! A golden basket is waiting for me! How wonderful that is that?

Can I also thank you sincerely for the wooden logs support?

You have no idea how happy we are about this! As you can see,the wood is more like big logs and our dear workers still have to saw and chop them all in pieces.

A winter fitness workout, but it'll warm you up.

It’s gotten cold here already. Your kindness and generosity is providing the wood that allows us to fill the stoves to keep the dogs warm.

The seniors especially gather round the stoves. They don’t ask for much - some hot food and a warm stove to gather near.

Most of our dogs are short-haired - they feel the cold keenly. All the dogs are so very grateful for some heat to endure the upcoming winter months.

Our Story

Founded by great animal lover Saša Pešić in 2008. our shelter has grown over the years to become a UNIQUE place, permanent or foster home for 700+ dogs. Every dog within our care met us in the worst moments of their life. All walked through fire, we rescued each&single one from life endangering conditions, with 0 chances to survive, often with broken bonds and broken hearts! That is how we meet for the first time! It is only then the real struggle begins! Sleepless nights. Days full of worries. Inexhaustible energy. Over and over again. We fear for all of them. For each of 700+ of them. For their health. For their food. For their safety. For their short life they worked so hard for! THE DOGS NEED YOU TO WIN THIS BATTLE! Each of our 4-legged friends needs 16 eur per month for his life within the shelter! With ONLY 16 eur per month we are able to provide good life for the dog including food, safe and dry place for living and sleeping, everyday cleaning of their ‘home’, basic vet care, every day play, fun and freedom during 8h, socialization and close contact with all of our 7 caretakers! 700+ dogs need more than 10500 eur per month! Additional support is needed for our disabled animals and the ‘special cases’ that require more extensive medical attention, as well as domestic 24/7 care that we are not always able to provide, due to lack of funding. Our only sources of financial support are YOUR donations! These dogs wouldnt be here today if it wasnt for our shelter. All of these dogs were rescued from the streets of Nis, in desperate need of help. Some were injured, some were sick others were too young to make it on their own. As you can see, today they live happy lives and are safe in our sanctuary. Sadly, their happiness is in our hands and we are in a desperate situation. We have over 700 dogs in our care and that means we have over 700 mouths to feed. Each month we struggle to fund the food bill despite the help from the amazing Harmony Fund. Der Shelter wurde 2009 von Sasa Pesic gegründet und hat sich im Lauf der Jahre zu einem einzigartigen Zufluchtsort für mittlerweile über 700 Hunde entwickelt. Jeder einzelne Hund im Lager hat seine eigene schlimme Geschichte – wurde aus schwierigen, manchmal sogar lebensbedrohlichen Situationen gerettet. Verletzt, verstoßen, ausgesetzt, oftmals mit gebrochenen Knochen, aber immer mit gebrochenen Herzen – so treffen wir unsere Schützlinge meist zum ersten Mal. Dann beginnt für uns der eigentliche Kampf: Schlaflose Nächte, Tage voller Sorgen. Wir gehen jeden Tag an die Grenzen unserer Energiereserven – und darüber hinaus. Wir sorgen uns um jeden einzelnen unserer Hunde. Um ihre Gesundheit, um ihre Sicherheit, darum, sie ernähren zu können. Sie haben so hart gekämpft. Das mindeste, was wir tun können, ist, ihnen ein lebenswertes Leben zu ermöglichen. UM DIESEN KAMPF ZU GEWINNEN, BRAUCHEN WIR EURE HILFE Jeder unserer vierbeinigen Freunde verschlingt im Monat ca. 16 Euro. Mit NUR 16 Euro im Monat können wir einem Hund ein lebenswertes Hundeleben inklusive Futter und einem sicheren, warmen und sauberen Schlafplatz und grundlegender medizinischer Versorgung ermöglichen. Dabei legen wir besonderen Wert darauf, unseren Hunden möglichst viel „Freiheit“ zu bieten. Zwingerhaltung gibt es bei uns nicht. Mindestens 8 Stunden/Tag können sich die Hunde unter der Aufsicht unserer Arbeiter völlig frei im Lager bewegen! Für einen einzelnen Spender sind 16 Euro keine große Summe. Doch über 600 Hunde benötigen mehr als 10500 Euro JEDEN Monat. Zusätzliche Kosten entstehen für die Betreuung von Tieren mit Handicap oder die Betreuung von kranken Tieren, die aufwändigere medizinische Betreuung oder rund-um-die-Uhr Pflege benötigen.
