😁 Feel good Friday 😁

Because of the holidays and the hustle and bustle around, we totally forgot to share with you our penultimate official adoption of 2024 😱

It was time for our sweet boy Cabo! 🥰

Cabo had been in our care for exactly 2 years. A paw injury caused by a car accident brought him into our rescue. 😥
Monika and Mario fell in love with him through our website back in April and wanted to meet him in person. At the beginning of November the time had come. They traveled to Sal to meet their new addition to the family. The couple visited OSPA regularly and not only took Cabo for walks, but also his pawls Rocky and Poppy. 😍
Cabo has been living in Germany since the beginning of December and although the weather isn't really like on Sal, he seems to enjoy it. ❄️🌨️
He enchants the family and we hope for a happy future! 🧡

Thank you Alfie for being his monthly special friend and of course to Monika and Mario for opening their heart! 😊

Last year in June we picked up this little guy from Palmeira after a car accident. 😔
Duki quickly recovered developed into a happy character and loves people's attention. 🥰

‼️ IMPORTANT INFORMATION‼️

As puppy season approaches and Cape Verde is currently at high traveling season, we would like to ask you to read this with consideration for all new dog mothers who have just had and will have their puppies soon.🫶

We understand that puppies are very cute and that it is your instinct to keep them safe however we ask to NOT take them away even though you might not see mommy dog around!

Why you ask?🤔
Here are just a few reasons:
-Usually mom still feeds them at regular intervals, which means that one of our volunteers has to take on this job and feed the puppy day and nighttime. 🍼🌃

-Early separation could cause problems such as aggression, possessiveness and fear, developmental disorders and many more.

-Unfortunately, also due to some recent cases of parvo in our rehoming centre, all insufficiently vaccinated puppies are at risk and therefore will not be admitted to OSPA for their own safety and well-being.

What to do if you think they are in danger? ⚠️
Please take a photo and note the location 📸📍and contact our page.📲
This way we can assess the situation and decide if the puppy needs additional care.

Unfortunately, perfectly happy and healthy puppies are often taken away too early. This can also be very stressful for the mother, who is still breastfeeding her babies. 🥹

As you may be aware from our recent posts, Jaquira is currently in foster care in UK.

We have set up a GoFundMe appeal in order to help cover some of the costs of any veterinary treatment Jaquira has already had for her current incontinence condition and also for potential future treatments or surgery to help resolve these issues. We would like to help relieve the financial burden from her wonderful foster carers, who have made her so welcome and taking such great care of her needs.

Ringing in the New Year, we look back and reflect on 2024. 🪞
It was definitely a year with lots of ups and downs, many setbacks and far too many heartbreaking losses. 😔💔
Thankfully, we also achieved some fabulous goals;
We ran 2 successful neutering campaigns with over 850 cats and dogs neutered and several other surgeries performed, 🩺
our fundraiser for a "vet room" collected over £6000 (€7250) already, 💷
Brownie Bob got his very own master suite built and we were able to take 48 new dogs into our care, just to name a few...
We got to experience lots of happiness and great joy too, the greatest being the 22 of our dogs who found their loving forever homes;

🪄Looking for a Christmas miracle 🪄

Where our Brownie Bob has received an amazing (early) Christmas gift, unfortunately another one of our beloved furry friends has found herself in a much less favourable position. 😔

You may or may not have read the news that our gorgeous Jaquira was surrendered after her recent adoption in November. 💔

Our lovely volunteers Julia and Glen, kindly stepped in after our recent appeal and offered to temporarily foster Jaquira. However, we only have a few short weeks left until we need to find a more permanent solution for her. 🙏🏼

We are still hopeful to find Jaquira a loving forever family in the UK or Europe, but we obviously are aware of the challenges this brings for all dogs in rescue, especially around this time of year, but particularly for Jaquira, due to her incontinence issues and her susceptibility to urinary infections. Sadly with a lack of veterinary analysis facilities here on Sal, we were unable to find out what exactly could be the origin, but are now looking to explore if there could be any available options, with a view to helping Jaquira overcome these issues, if indeed this is even possible. 🏥

In the meantime, we would once again like to send out a heartfelt appeal to any potential families in the UK or Europe, who feel they could offer a loving forever home to Jaquira and have the warmth, patience and understanding to take on her condition, knowing that this would be a lifelong commitment. She has already been through so much already and deserves to have a happy and settled life. ♾

Jaquira is beautifully behaved and very loving, enjoys long walks and cuddles, but she would need to be the only dog in the household. 🐾🦮
