Well, someone woke up with an attitude today 😏
🥵 | Yes, the truth is that some things are beyond our control. Sometimes it happens by accident and bad timing, but most of the times it happens because owners irresponsibly neglect their duties as pet parents.
➡️ Because of the high temperatures during summer, heatstroke is very common among pets in Cyprus. It causes serious, sometimes permanent health problems, and sometimes even death.
All pet parents as responsible owners, need to ensure that they are doing whatever needs to be done to prevent such unfortunate things from happening.
1️⃣ Protect your pets from the heat as much as possible
2️⃣ Always provide adequate and multiple water sources
3️⃣ Provide shady areas to escape from heat
4️⃣ Provide a small paddling pool to cool off if they like it
5️⃣ Limit exercise to only morning and evening sessions
📊 | Chew toys are a great way for dogs to beat boredom and keep their teeth clean. However, the wrong chew toys can cause more harm than good!
If you want to keep your dog safe or at least reduce the risk of veterinary emergencies, some types of chews and chew toys are best to be avoided.
Understandably, most of you would argue that your dog never had problems with any type of chew, or you’ve never heard of dogs having any problems with a particular chew.
➡️ The keywords here are “before” and “haven’t heard.”
Remember, every dog is different, and life can change in an instant. Bad incidents can change things forever! It's always important to be aware of the dangers and risks.
✅ Avoid anything made out of hard materials that can damage your pet’s teeth. Instead, choose toys made of tough rubber or materials that can withstand your pet’s strong jaws.
✅ Avoid purchasing toys that can be chewed into pieces. These chewing toys can easily pose a choking or obstruction hazard.
✅ Avoid chewing toys that are small enough and easy to swallow whole. Remember to always choose size-appropriate toys for your dog.

🐈 | Maine C**n
Despite their size, Maine C**ns are sweet-tempered and gentle cats that love their parents and adapt to any environment as long as they have some exercise room.
In combination with their need for exercise, their nutrition should be carefully controlled as well, since they have a tendency to become soft or overweight if not carefully monitored.
To ensure their health and happiness, cat trees, perches, and adequate running room should be available. However, since they love interactive play with every member of the family, keeping them active shouldn't be an issue at all.
When it comes to grooming, the Maine C**n's coat needs daily and close attention. They should be oftenly brushed and combed, to make certain that their fur does not tangle and the coat stays smooth.
Despite their size, grooming them is usually easy to do if they are trained at a young age and learn that this process is fun.
🐕 | American Pitbull
Life with Pitbulls is always an adventure! These fun, loving dogs are always up for a game and must have a vigorous exercise period every day to stay happy and healthy.
Most pit bulls are fun, loving, gentle, and patient with all their family members (with the very likely exception of other Pitbulls).
However, as with any large breed, pit bulls should be always supervised when with children. As with all breeds, there are exceptions.
Because of their courageous nature, stubbornness, tenacity, and lack of fear, Pitbulls should be obedience trained from an early age. On the other hand, obedience training is also a good bonding activity.

After examining dental radiographs of cats and dogs with teeth that seemed normal to the naked eye, veterinarians found that 27.8% of dogs and 41.7% of cats had diseased teeth.
Except from scheduling a dental check-up once or twice a year, you should also know how to recognize the early signs of oral disease and consult your veterinarian on how to proceed.
The early signs of dental disease in pets include:
➡️ Bad breath
➡️ Yellow tartar buildup
➡️ Red and swollen gums
🐈 | Feline Infectious Peritonitis
FIP is a viral cat disease caused by certain strains of a virus called the feline coronavirus. Most strains of feline coronavirus are found in the gastrointestinal tract and do not cause significant disease. These are referred to as feline enteric coronavirus (FeCV).
Cats infected with FeCV usually do not show any symptoms during the initial viral infection, but may occasionally experience brief bouts of diarrhea and/or mild upper respiratory signs from which they recover spontaneously.
Once a cat develops clinical FIP, the disease is usually progressive and almost always fatal without therapy that has recently become available, but that has yet to be approved to treat FIP in cats by the FDA.
FIP is not the same as human coronavirus, it's a species-specific virus that infects ONLY felines. This means it cannot be transmitted to people, dogs, or other animals.
Don't abandon your cats if they get tested positive! On the contrary, consult your veterinarian on how to offer them a normal life.
🐈 | Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV)
Attacking the immune system and leaving the cat vulnerable to many infections, FIV is one of the most major and common infectious cat diseases worldwide.
Since FIV is mainly transmitted through bite wounds, un-neutered male cats with outdoor access, especially those who are likely to fight with other cats, are at the greatest risk for infection.
FIV-infected cats may appear normal for years, but will eventually suffer from immune deficiency, allowing normally harmless bacteria, viruses, protozoa, and fungi to cause severe illnesses.
Though there is no cure, recent studies suggest that cats can live normally, as long as they are not also infected with Feline Leukemia Virus.
The best way to reduce risk is to limit contact with cats who may be infected with the disease by keeping cats indoors and testing all cats within the household.
Even though FIV is similar to HIV and causes a feline disease similar to AIDS in humans, it's a species-specific virus that infects ONLY felines.

For that reason, a responsible owner needs to ensure that he/she is doing whatever needs to be done to prevent it from happening by protecting them from the heat as much as possible.
➡️ If your pet belongs to one of these high-danger categories, pay extra attention and contact your veterinarian right away if you see anything out of the ordinary.
🐶 | Research data provided by Banfield Pet Hospital found that the lifespan of overweight dogs was up to 2,5 years shorter than dogs with healthy body weight.
Obese dogs develop an increased risk for:

🐕 | German Sheperd
Smart and easy to train, they get along well both with children and other pets if raised with them. However, if raised otherwise, they tend to get cautious with strangers.
Poor socialization and inadequate training always lead to aggressive behavior. To prevent this, German Shepherds should be obedience trained and carefully socialized while young.
A rule to remember is that you should always keep them around the family and continually expose them under supervision to people and other pets around the neighborhood. Never confine them to a kennel or backyard, no matter if they're alone or with other dogs.
Also, keep in mind that German Sheperds are active dogs and like to exercise or have something to do. Otherwise, they can get into mischief or become agitated. Provide ample daily exercise and you're set.
In terms of grooming, they shed heavily about twice yearly, but you can control it and keep the coat nice by brushing 3-4 times a week.
🥵 | Also known as heat exhaustion, heatstroke is a life-threatening condition and occurs when your pet's body temperature rises above the normal range of 37.2 to 39.2 °C.
You should always keep in mind that dogs and cats have just a few sweat glands and cannot cool off by sweating like humans, so they overheat more easily.
➡️ Due to the high temperatures in Cyprus during the summer season, heatstroke is considered to be one of the most common pet hazards.
Examine, learn and look out for these 1️⃣1️⃣ symptoms so you can act immediately if needed, call your veterinarian and save your pet's life.
📊 | A nutritionally balanced diet based on gender, age, and health conditions, is necessary to maintain good health and meet the biological requirements of both humans and animals.
➡️ Just like humans need specific diets depending on their biological needs and health, cats need to eat a balanced and specific diet each day, to gain energy and nutrients according to their current needs.
For that exact reason, feeding your cat the correct food is really important for their health.
Poor provision of food on your side, can compromise your pet's physical health which can also lead to poor mental well-being.

Because of their incredible sense of smell, dogs can sense things such as changes in their owner's body chemistry, and therefore detect pain or illness.

While many people consider them to be wild cats that only pretend to be domesticated, Bengals are actually very sweet and loving, attach closely to their people, and make loyal friends.
If you're planning in getting a Bengal, keep in mind that they're active and extremely athletic cats. To keep them both happy and healthy, they absolutely must have the ability to run and exercise freely.
When it comes to grooming, their coat does not mat, they're easy to keep groomed and frankly enjoy the process.
