This is the first photo shoot we did with my beloved Kaza on Christmas 2018.

After that year I never had the chance to spend any Christmas or New Year eve with him since as a pet sitter, for us this is the busiest time of the year.

The holiday season is often described as the most wonderful time of the year—a time for family, celebration, and togetherness. However, for those of us in the pet-sitting profession, it’s also one of the most challenging times. While we are committed to providing the best care for other people’s beloved pets, at the same time we are faced with the bittersweet reality of leaving behind our own pets and families during this special season.

Caring for pets is more than just a job, it’s a passion and a responsibility we take seriously. Each pet we care for has its own unique needs, routines, and difficulties, and it’s our duty to ensure they feel loved, safe, and comforted in their owner’s absence. We pour our hearts into this work because we understand how much these animals mean to their humans.

But behind the scenes, there’s another story. For many pet sitters, the holidays mean missing out on the very things we’re helping others enjoy. It’s rewarding work, but it comes with sacrifices and leaving our own pets behind can be particularly hard. The guilt of leaving them, is something we carry quietly as we go about our duties.

Despite these challenges, we continue to do what we do because we know how important our role is. Pets are family, and leaving them in good hands gives their humans peace of mind. The gratitude we receive from pet owners, the wagging tails and purring companions we care for, and the knowledge that we’ve made a difference—these things make the sacrifices worthwhile.

For the Cats and Dogs Team: let’s take a moment to acknowledge the incredible work we do, especially during the holidays.

And to the pet owners who entrust us with their furry family members: thank you for your trust, your kindness, and for recognizing the love and effort we pour into our work. It’s not always easy, but it’s always worth it.
