There have been reports of cats being shot with air guns or BB guns. This is not an accident, not a prank, and not harmless.

First and most important
This is illegal and a criminal act.
You should contact the police immediately and report the incident.

What to do for your cat
Do not assume the injury is minor. Air gun pellets can pe*****te deeply and cause internal bleeding, organ damage, or infection.
Do not try to remove the pellet yourself.
Keep your cat calm and restrict movement.
Bring your cat to a veterinarian as soon as possible, even if there is no visible wound.

Why urgent veterinary care matters
Pellets may not be visible externally
Internal injuries may not show symptoms right away
Delayed treatment can be life threatening
Imaging such as X rays is often required to locate the pellet

Obesity in companion animals is more common than many pet owners realize, and it can significantly affect your pet’s health and quality of life. Excess weight increases the risk of joint problems, heart disease, diabetes, and reduced mobility.

At VETNC Vets, we focus on prevention, early assessment, and tailored weight management plans to help your pet stay active, comfortable, and happy. With the right nutrition, exercise, and veterinary guidance, maintaining a healthy weight is achievable.

Because a healthier weight means a longer, happier life for your companion.

The festive season is a treat for us, but not always for our pets.

Just like humans, pets need extra care during the holidays.
• Avoid feeding them festive foods like chocolate, sweets, cooked bones, fatty meats, onions, and alcohol
• Stick to their regular diet to prevent stomach upsets
• Keep decorations, ribbons, and small objects out of reach
• Watch portions. Overfeeding can lead to serious digestive issues
• Make sure fresh water is always available
• If guests are around, remind them not to share food with pets

If your pet shows vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, or unusual behavior, contact your vet immediately.

At VETNC Vets, we are here to keep your pets healthy and happy this festive season.

Keep your pets warm and safe this winter with a few simple steps that make a big difference.

• Create a warm indoor space with cozy bedding away from drafts.
• Keep outdoor time short and always dry their fur after walks.
• Use pet safe jackets for dogs that need extra insulation.
• Check paws for cracks or irritation after contact with cold surfaces.
• Provide fresh water throughout the day since hydration drops in colder months.
• Senior pets and young animals need extra attention in low temperatures.

A little care goes a long way. Your pets rely on you for comfort and protection through the colder days.

Purring is more than a pleasant sound. It is one of the clearest signals that a cat feels safe, relaxed, and emotionally well. That gentle vibration often means their stress levels are low and their bond with their human is strong.

Cats also purr when they seek comfort or relief. It can be a self soothing behavior during recovery or after a stressful moment. Understanding when your cat purrs and why helps you spot changes early.

If your cat’s behavior shifts or their purring patterns change, a checkup can rule out hidden discomfort. Our team is here to support every stage of your cat’s wellbeing.

Pain management in pets has advanced significantly over the past two decades. Acute pain from surgery or injury is usually easy to spot, but chronic pain, especially musculoskeletal issues like osteoarthritis, often goes unnoticed. Pets may show changes in behavior or reluctance to move, but owners cannot always identify the cause.

At VETNC Veterinary Clinic, we focus on detecting and treating pain early, even when pets cannot express it.

Heart conditions in cats often develop quietly, making early detection essential. Subtle changes like reduced activity, rapid breathing, fainting episodes, or decreased appetite can be early indicators that something is wrong.

At VETNC Vets we use thorough clinical examinations and advanced diagnostics to identify cardiac issues before they progress.

If you notice changes in your cat’s behaviour or breathing, schedule a check up. Early care makes a real difference.
