Worth a read!
My purchase of a seriously bred purebred cat does not condemn another cat to death.
My purchase of a seriously bred purebred cat is not going to cause an increase in the number of cats in the shelter.
My desire to have a cat with a predictable temperament from a healthy line does not result in another cat in the shelter not getting adopted.
My careful research on the most responsible breeders doing their best for health and good breeding is not the problem. That's not what you should be upset about.
It's not what you should blame.
I’m not the one who irresponsibly brought these cats into this world and left them in a shelter.
Responsible breeders are not the ones taking these cats to animal shelters either.
It's my home, my life and my choice what kind of cat I want to get. Maybe it's a long haired cat, one I'm not allergic to, a show cat, or just a lover cat of a particular breed that suits me best.
Whatever reason I choose to support a serious breeder, it won't send a shelter cat to death.
A breeder who has health tests, tests for infectious diseases and pedigree for his cat is not contributing to the number of stray cats without a home.
The number of cats without a home in the world is a problem, but it's not a problem made worse by serious breeders and those who buy from them.
Your neighbor who quickly goes to some breeder over the Internet and gets a "purebred" cat without papers because it is so cheap and poor, contributes to the problem.
Your friend who spontaneously bought a kitten is contributing to the problem.
This person on willhaben multiplying the trendiest designer mix asap is contributing to the problem.
Your relatives who absolutely have to have their cat covered for once, "so she can experience what it's like to be a mother" or because "she's just so sweet" are contributing to the problem.
Your old school mate who bought a feral cat hybrid with a lot of energy without taking the time to research his needs and character, and eventually sees that it doesn't fit well with his lifestyle is contributing to the problem.
A serious breeder offers lifelong support. A serious breeder would never allow his cats to end up in a shelter in the first place.
It's understandable to be angry about the number of homeless cats in the world, but if you look closer, you'll find that your anger is targeting the wrong people.
If you look closely you will find that serious breeders and those of us who buy cats from them are just as angry as you are.
We only point fingers at the real culprits.
