Sometimes you're lucky, sometimes you're not....
Yesterday we took in our male Kanta for his official hip X Rays. As one can see in the second image his hips are looking not good and there is no way he's ever going to be used for breeding.
I decided to also check his elbows to make sure they are ok. We sent both in, hips and ellbows, for official evaluation and to get this data collected.
Things like this are sad, for the breed and us breeders, as hips like that keep popping up even in lines with a long history of extensive health testing and a lot of knowledge behind every dog that has been used.
Kanta's sister got A/A on her hips which is why none of us expected his hips to show severe signs of hip dysplasia. I expect them to be rated as E/E here.
*Edit: Hips came back as D/D ; Elbows 0/0*
What's most important is that Kanta will have a pain free life. And we know that within this breed even dogs like this appear to have little to no issues.
We will keep an close eye on him and if necessary he'll get treatment ❤️
Days like this feel like throwing us back to start.
Our human mind seems to need an explanation for everything, a reason for why things happen. In this case there's maybe none, it might just be bad luck. But in the end of the day this is no reason for us to hang our heads down ☺️
