Need to get rid of rats? Here is a solution, plus you can save a cat life.

There are times at HSNT when we get in feral cats who no matter how much our behavioral team works with them, it’s clear that they will never become house pets. Many shelters will euthanize feral or unsocialized cats, however at HSNT, we want to give EVERY animal that comes into our care the best chance at life, even if that means finding creative placements.

We’re looking for people who need mousers or who have a barn or a warehouse that can provide a safe place for our “non-people cats” to thrive!

So excited to be part of this!! I’m going to post updates here on the dog I get matched with and it’s training journey with me.

Are you a dog trainer (professional or amateur) who uses positive reinforcement/LIMA principles and you want a chance to win $1,000? Join our Mighty Mutt Makeover Showcase happening May 11, 2024!

Each trainer will be assigned a dog from HSNT that is currently waiting for a home but has yet to have luck connecting with a family.

After our behavioral team matches a trainer with a dog, the trainer will foster the dog for up to four weeks, agreeing to work with them every day on a variety of commands and behaviors (all foster supplies are provided by HSNT).

At the end of the four weeks, we’ll gather at Lucky Dog Training Center in Keller, Texas to showcase what each of the dogs have learned.

Each dog will be evaluated on:
- Obedience & Manners
- Tricks
- Freestyle (trainer’s choice!)

The winner of the showcase will receive a $1,000 cash prize thanks to our friends at the Law Offices of Jason Smith!

The purpose of Mutt Makeover is to not only find homes for these very deserving pets, but also to show that shelter dogs from all walks of life can be trained to be perfectly wonderful companions -- and even do some really spectacular things!

When you're dealing with an out of control dog, one of the first questions to ask is whether their undesirable behavior is driven by fear. If it is, you'll want to start by helping them feel more at ease. It's hard for anyone to control themselves when they are afraid!

The easiest way to help a dog feel at ease is Classical Conditioning, the simple act of getting your dog to form an associate between one stimulus and another. Help your dog form POSITIVE associations with the things that make them uneasy and they'll start to feel more relaxed.

Classical Conditioning is simple and easy to do, and with the right techniques, it can even be fun and enjoyable!

Happy 1st birthday poppy!!

One of the reasons Charlie came to Board n Train is because he liked to jump straight up in the air when on leash and around new people and dogs. So we went to the park to practice calm behaviors like sit, touch, watch me and down while there were lots of distractions all around us.

Keys to weening out the treats! Here they are in action. They were running around the house playing. I had dog food on my mantle for surprise requests. I called them to ,come. Put them into a “park -it -stay”. Rewarded their calm behavior and then released them! Only about a 2-3 minute session does more good than you can imagine. spontaneity is one of the best ways to teach your pups to follow cues with out the reward being present! Some get rewarded my magical food that comes out of no where and dine get a “good boy” with lots of loving but no food reward!

My man Mr. Higgins here LOVES food so much he will knock the bowl right out of your hand sending the food flying EVERYWHERE at dinner time. So we have been working on a little self control. #dallasdogsofinstagram#boardntrain

Sit stay during free play…??? Working with three pups at once for spontaneous heavy distraction training. Who ever does the work gets the pay check! This is pretty difficult, can they all get it?

Working on their recall while they are in the middle of playing!! What great distraction work. Plus they get the dual reward of going back to play! If I were going to end the play time I would NOT use come! I would simply say, “let’s go” as not to ruin this potentially life saving behavior!

My spring break board and trains getting some great socializing in. Teddie (black and brown) is a Bernidoodle and Cooper is a Bernidoodle/Aussiedoodle. They just arrived today so letting them get warmed up. Next play time will include play and train! Coming soon!

Wrigley my sweet Bichon board and train sprucing up her walking manners. As much as she’d like we don’t get to stop EVEY TIME she d like too. I’m using “Let’s Go” (to walk nicely) and “Leave-it”( to leave the great smells on the ground alone). We’ll done Wrigley!!!

Fido’s Finest Dog Training: Teaching dogs to put their best paw forward!

Fido’s Finest Dog Training was born out of two girls’ love for their animals and a wonderful friendship. Here’s how they became dog trainers and started Fido’s Finest Dog Training:

Casandra and Marne were set up on a friendship blind date by Marne’s husband because he knew they had a similar passion for our four-legged friends! Sure enough, it was friends at first sight! They hit it off so well that they annoyed all their friends at dinner that night with their nonstop talk about dogs and dog training. They had no idea the lifelong friendship and business that would be born out of that first meeting.

As Marne and Casandra formed Fido’s Finest Dog Training, they knew they wanted more than just another dog training business. They wanted to provide professional training that was actually fun for dogs and their people! Training that could be easily added to the family routine. As the business has grown, they’ve hired and trained other women who share their core values and beliefs, allowing Fido’s Finest to reach even more families in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

Now, with over 15 years as dog trainers, they are proud to see that Fido’s Finest has become a thriving business that saves dogs’ lives by helping them become well-mannered members of the family. They feel incredibly blessed to be able to do what they truly love day in and day out.
