Let’s have some bed talk 🤣
Sometimes we buy a dog bed because we think it looks cute/comfortable/big enough.
But…..different dogs have different preferences.
And for the same dog, preferences will change, whether throughout the day….or the years….

Imbolc, my oldest staffy, is a “spreader”, as you can see. Whereas Lughnasah the border collie prefers….to curl up.
(And yes of course they are all allowed on the couch.)
I have 4 dogs, so how do I content all of them?
By having different sizes, and styles, of dog beds…because they are each individuals.
Arriving soon, a typically Scandinavian BIA bed, whith a fitted Canelana cover. Groovy “, baby!

Solutions DO exist, and judgemental people never helped finding solutions.
I was, am, and always be passionately in love with « those dogs ».
They made me grow as a dog trainer, but most importantly, as a person. And I know they always will.
Lose the guilt, embrace their awesomeness and feel grateful for how much they teach you.

Some days are better than others, and sometimes you want to cry. Then cry. But keep going.

I am proud of you 🩷🩷🩷🩷

If they want to criticise your training methods…let them.
If they want to label your dog…let them.
If they ignore your request to “Please call your dog!”…let them.
If they call your dog stubborn…let them.
If they don’t want to welcome you and your dog…let them.
If they want to choose a different trainer…let them.
If they keep offering you unwelcome advice…let them.
If they don’t listen to you say, “MY dog ISN’T friendly.”…let them.
If they call your dog aggressive…let them.
If they judge your relationship with your dog…let them.
If they want to only listen the latest ‘dog trainer’…let them.
If they argue that you just need to be more ‘dominant’…let them.
If they misunderstand your dog…let them.
If they tell you your dog’s struggles are your fault…let them.
If they say your dog isn’t ‘well-socialised’ enough…let them.

They don’t know or see the ❤️ REAL relationship ❤️ you have with your 🐶 dog or care about the 🧐 WHY behind your dog’s struggle.

Stop wasting your time and energy trying to control or change other people. Let them show you who they really are and then YOU can ✨ CHOOSE ✨ what to do next.

It doesn’t stop you from being 💐 kind or from loving them, but you can CHOOSE to focus on the CONTROLLABLE and ENJOY the moments 💕 YOU have with YOUR DOG!

Yesterday I had the privilege to meet FOURTEEN wonderful kelpie owners, as part of an “obedience workshop “.

What a day….watching those sweet lively dogs channel their energy into full collaboration was priceless.
And it was made possible by their human teammates, who fully take quirkiness onboard.

We smiled, we laughed, we celebrated how fun heelwork, focus or retrieve is when we remember that mindset is everything.

I am so proud of all of you, who had the courage to venture out of the box for a crazy training session.
I am humbled that you patiently endure my “pardon my French” style perfectly understood my training philosophy.

We might have looked like aliens to onlookers, but did we have fun!!

Lisbeth Kristensen, thank you so much for the best day I had in WEEKS.

Be proud of you, because I am proud of you, beautiful people

The galloping housewife had a trainer that could train a camel to piaffe. Honestly, he was a genius. He was renowned for this skill and would travel the country visiting the top stables passing on his ability.

He found it easy. For him it was the most natural thing in the world. He couldn’t understand why everyone else found it so difficult.

Yet teaching the flying changes wasn’t so simple. For sure, he could do it, but it required more work, more effort, more intention.

He thought the flying changes were more difficult to teach than piaffe.

He was both right and wrong.

For him, they were. For others, the reverse was true.

The key to life is figuring out what is your piaffe. What is the thing that you can do with ease that other people find tricky?

Can you look at a scene and visualise the perfect photograph?
Do you give young, novice, or nervous riders confidence?
Can you keep indoor plants thriving?
Can you look at a young horse in a field and identify its potential?
Do numbers organise themselves in front of your eyes?
Can you plan a yard’s trip to a week-long show without breaking a sweat?

Often our unique skill is hidden, or at least overlooked. We think it too trivial or unimportant or niche. We assume that just because it’s as effortless as breathing for us, that it is the same for everyone else.

Find your piaffe. Double down on it. Recognise its value. Hone and utilise the skill. Offer it to other people. You can make it part of your business if you wish, or you can give it away for free. Just recognise it as part of your unique skillset and part of what you alone can offer to the world.

As for your flying change, you can keep working on that thing. You can keep making your ability to do it better. Or you can look for someone whose piaffe is the flying change and have them help you or do it for you. Just know that because the thing is more difficult for you than it is for the other person, does not reduce your worth or your value.

Everyone has their piaffe. Everyone has their flying changes.
