The problem is spiraling out of control and we need a sustainable solution.**We can see every day that Dominicans resort to desperate measures: We had 18 puppies come in this weekend. One was hit with a cutlass and his femur broke. Six of the puppies were burnt. This is proof that people are desperate and don't know what to do anymore. Hotels call us to help, but we cannot do more. We need a conjoint action.Dominicans are resorting to measures that are both illegal and against their humane spirit to diminish the stray dog population, and these methods are ineffective. SNAR and St. Nicholas Vet University are more than willing to collaborate on establishing a sustainable program to address the root of the problem: fertility. The solution is Spay, Neuter, and Release (SNR).To make this program successful, we need a joint effort. To establish a sustainable solution there must be also a successful campaign to spay and neuter privately owned dogs to tackle the issue comprehensively. We do not have the means, the resources nor the power. If Dominica aims to attract more tourists, it is essential to address the stray dog issue in a lasting manner. Countless countries have demonstrated that catching and killing does not solve the problem. Dominica has tried to solve the problem by laying out poisoned food. This has caused great suffering and no lasting results. However, cities like Odessa (Ukraine), Istanbul (Turkey), and Bucharest (Romania) have shown success with SNR programs.Dominicans need a solution to an urgent problem that is driving them to take extreme actions. We urge to act together in a sustainable way.We can only help so many dogs as our capacity allows. Injured, sick and mutilated animals diminish our capacity to spay and neuter. Only a SNR can bring lasting change. Please advocate for this solution. Only together we can solve the situation by tackling the root of the problem.

🐾 Meet Faith, our little miracle! 🐾Found wandering, a ghost of a dog, Faith was on the brink of death. With special nutrition and medication, she fought her way back. Thanks to the dedicated care of SNAR and the kindness and compassion of our team, she is now full of love and joy in our emergency shelter just 2 months later. A huge thank you to everyone who donated for her care. Because of you, Faith can now enjoy the sun and play with her friends. What is still missing is the love of a forever family.
