The true essence of community lies in our ability to support one another during difficult times. Yesterday, the St. Nicholas University veterinary students and volunteer faculty members embodied this spirit in the most beautiful way.

These aspiring veterinarians, volunteered their time to assist an owner who was facing a challenging period. With compassion and dedication, they provided much-needed care and attention to the horses, bringing smiles to the faces of both the animals and the owner.

This act of kindness is a testament to the power of community and the importance of lending a helping hand when someone needs it most. It reminds us that we are stronger together and that even the smallest act of compassion can make a world of difference.

Let's continue to inspire and uplift each other. Let's build a community where compassion and support thrive.

Dear Friends,
Our hearts are heavy. We must leave our premises, and the construction of our emergency shelter has come to a halt due to the lack of funding. But we refuse to give up. We have 200 precious souls depending on us—like Happy, who survived poisoning, and Raymond, who lost a leg. They are not just animals; they are beings who crave love and cuddles. At SNAR, we see them, feed them, and know how loving they are. They need a soul to care for them, and this is why we won’t give up.
If you believe these dogs and cats deserve a chance, please donate at our website. Together, we can make a difference 🐾❤️

Our October 31st deadline to move the dogs from St. Nicholas Animal Rescue has come and gone, and they’re still waiting for a safe place to call home. Despite all our efforts, we’ve been delayed—no access road to the new site, no funds to finish building. These dogs have nowhere else to go. We need our community now more than ever. Every donation, every piece of material, every hour volunteered will bring us closer to rescuing them from this crisis. Please, help us give them the shelter they desperately need. 🆘💔

💚💜🙏Huge gratitude to J. Astaphan for their incredible generosity and support! 🙏🏽 They’ve not only given us a 15% discount on construction materials but also donated a water tank and are delivering everything with a 2-week grace period to pay. This gives us time to gather the donations needed to cover the costs. It’s moments like these that remind us of the power of community. ❤️ Every little bit helps—if you can, please support us as we work towards setting up an emergency shelter. Together, we can make it happen! 🙏💜💚

We - the only animal rescue and shelter - must vacate our premises by October 31st, leaving 200 dogs and 43 cats without a safe haven. The Kalinago community has generously offered a parcel of land, but the site lacks essential infrastructure. We urgently need to construct a temporary shelter within the next 20 days, including building an access road, erecting secure fences, and setting up kennels, a generator, and a water tank. Please visit our website www.snar-dm.com and donate to help us save these animals.

🐾 Rescue Alert! 🐾
SNAR saved three adorable puppies found abandoned in the middle of the road. Sadly, two of them are battling parvo, a preventable virus that can be deadly. This is a heartfelt plea to all pet owners: please vaccinate your dogs. Vaccination can easily prevent the parvo virus and save lives. Let’s not turn a blind eye when animals are suffering.
What would you have done if you had found these puppies on the road? 🐶❤️

🌟 Meet Our Heroes: Nusica and our two amazing foster families in Florida🌟
We are beyond grateful for our incredible Rescue Manager, Nusica, and our amazing foster families. Nusica was our very first Flight Angel, she brought two of our babies to safety🐾✈️
Felice and Christopher, the loving couple who adopted Dolly and gave her the most wonderful home, are now fostering our sweet little Rowlf (yes, named after the Muppet’s Show character). Their kindness and dedication are truly inspiring. ❤️🏡
The same applies to Amanda and her amazing family, who recently adopted our sweet little Granola. She opened her loving home to foster Toto (named after the dog in Wizard of Oz) until the hurricane is over and they can go to the Humane Society of Broward. We are beyond thankful to these two families for their incredible support and love🌟🏠
All the paperwork went smoothly🌈We hope to have more Flight Angels soon! If you’re traveling to the US and willing to bring one of our babies to a loving home, please DM us or email us at [email protected]. Let’s continue to make a difference together🐶✈️💕

Meet Hip Hop, the playful little goat who was rescued yesterday. 🐐💖 She has deformed front and back legs, and her owner couldn’t care for her. But thanks to the kindness of a good person, she was brought to St. Nicholas Rescue, where our team is determined to give her the care she needs 🏥💪 We'll work on fitting her with prosthetic legs. Did you know that spaying just one cat can prevent hundreds of unwanted kittens from being born? 🌍🐾 By spaying, we’re helping to control the pet population💖

At St. Nicholas Animal Rescue, we're proud to offer our Spay and Neuter Program as a service to Dominica—helping to reduce stray animal overpopulation and promote a healthier, happier island 🙌 Every weekend, we spay up to 15 animals, working towards a future where every animal has a loving home and our communities are stronger for it🏠🐶🐱

Become a St. Nicholas Animal Rescue (SNAR) Flight Angel: Give a Deserving Dominican puppy or kitten a Second Chance!
Are you on vacation in Dominica and want to give your trip a bit of extra special meaning? Please consider volunteering to become a flight angel for one of the many rescued puppies and kittens at SNAR that need to go to their forever home in the US.
It doesn’t matter where are you flying to or when, please contact us and let us know your plans, if possible, we’ll match you with a puppy or kitten and their adopters. You’ll be a hero!
The beautiful island of Dominica faces a heartbreaking reality – St. Nicholas Animal Rescue, the only shelter for abandoned and abused animals, is overwhelmed with rescued animals and is facing eviction. Sadly, due to limited resources and adoption opportunities within Dominica, these precious lives have zero chance of being adopted locally.
This is where YOU come in! By becoming a Flight Angel, you can play a vital role in saving a deserving animal. As a Flight Angel, you'll be the hero who provides a safe and comfortable journey to a loving forever home in the United States.
Here's How You Can Become a Flight Angel for St. Nicholas Animal Rescue:
Being a flight angel is super easy. First of all, we need to match you with a puppy / kitten and an adopter. For that, we need your flight information, including airline, destination, times of departure and arrival, and reservation code. You can email this information to: [email protected]
Once we have made the perfect match, we make the booking and meet you either at the airport the day of your departure, or the ferry terminal if you are leaving through St. Lucia, Martinique or Guadeloupe.
We provide all necessary documentation, as well as a carrier and a to-go bag that has a few cleaning supplies, leashes, toys, and food for the trip.
What to expect on traveling day?
Once we deliver the dog, it’s all very easy! You go to the check-in counter and do your check-in showing the documents for the puppy/kitten.
Please note that some airlines require payment during reservation while others will require the payment at the check-in desk. Regardless, our team will reimburse you for the payment at the time that we deliver the puppy/kitten to you.
When it’s time to go through security, the animal must not be left in the carrier. Our puppies and kittens are usually very calm and love traveling. It’s like they know they are going home!
Please pick up the puppy/kitten and take it in your arms when going through security. As soon as the bags are out of the X-ray machine you can place the puppy/kitten in their bags.
Some flight angel like to play with the animals while they wait to board, others feel more comfortable having them in their bags. Whatever suits you best is ok!
When boarding the plane the animals must be inside the carriers. Most airlines won’t allow them to be outside, however, some air hostesses are stricter than others. Please keep in mind that the rules state that the animals have to be in their bags for the full length of the flight, trying to open the carrier or taking them out may be ok, but know they may ask you to put them back in their bags.
Upon arrival we will have organized to either have the adopters or a member of a partner shelter pick up the animal. We will put you in contact with them before your flight. You will meet them at an established point and give them the animal (please don’t forget the documents too!).
And to show our flight angels how much we appreciate them, we are happy to provide transportation to the airport for free from Roseau City Center. We also will give you a SNAR t-shirt as a gift so you can be reminded of the life you saved by becoming a flight angel for SNAR.

Sometimes, love knows no borders. 🌍❤️ When Patricia met Buddy on a beach in Dominica, he stormed her heart. Despite the pain of having his eye cut out with a knife, Buddy was a sweet soul who deserved a second chance. She reached out to SNAR and we could heal some of his wounds. Patricia knew she couldn’t leave him behind, and no matter the hurdles - no direct flights, complex logistics - she decided to bring Buddy to his forever home in Belgium. 🐾

This weekend, after months apart, they were finally reunited in Martinique. A huge thank you to Matei, who traveled all the way to hand Buddy over and make this beautiful reunion possible. ✈️💕

Buddy’s journey wasn’t easy, but love and compassion carried him across continents. Now, he's on his way to Brussels, where a life filled with love awaits.

Thank you, Patricia, for not giving up on Buddy and giving him a loving home

We don't know what will happen. So far we have no sign from the Ministry that gave the eviction order that we will be given more time or that the eviction order will be withdrawn. We are still looking tirelessly to find placements for our dogs. I you have contact to non-kill shelters in Florida, Chicago or NY that can still take dogs - please get in touch with us today. If you can foster or adopt, please get also in touch. Thank you for much to each and every one of you who supports us in these difficult times🙏

URGENT: St. Nicholas Animal Rescue, Dominica’s only animal shelter, is facing forced closure on Sept 10th, 2024. With over 160 rescued animals in our care, we need help now. Despite our tireless efforts to rescue hundreds of animals from cruelty and abuse, the shelter has faced repeated attacks, harassment, and relocation. Local opposition and lack of support have left us desperate. If you know of any shelters in Florida, Chicago, or New York, please reach out. Wings of Rescue is ready to evacuate, but we need placement first. If you can’t help directly, please share this plea with organizations, animal lovers, and anyone who cares. Every share counts. Every hour counts.
