In celebration of the Day of the Dead and Cuenca’s Independence Day, our hospital will be closed on Friday, November 1st, and Monday, November 4th. However, we will be open on Saturday, November 2nd, with our regular hours from 08:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

Fercho is relatively new to the streets of Cotacachi. Residents reported him after seeing him wandering in search of food. Whether he was abandoned or got lost chasing a female dog in heat, we will never know. 🥹

Our team brought Fercho to the hospital for a thorough evaluation and enrolled him in our TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) program. He was neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, and microchipped.🐾💚

Tomorrow is Saturday! 🥳

Every Saturday, visit Doc’s Place, Blues and Cue's, Doc Daniel where a portion of what you consume is donated to Amici Cannis in support of our community dog and cat program. ✨

This program manages the population of stray and community dogs and cats in the town of Cotacachi by offering free and low-cost spay/neuter services, as well as preventive medical services such as vaccinations, deworming, flea and tick medications, and skin treatments. In addition to veterinary services, we provide community dogs and cats with food and potable water. 😸🐾

Paco, Paloma, Kari, and Florentina are some of the animals that recently benefited from the funds raised at Doc Daniel 's. 🤩

✨Meet Kari, a one-and-a-half-year-old calico cat who was reported for its injuries by a local resident in Cotacachi. Our team quickly responded to the request for help, captured the cat and brought her to the hospital. Despite her fear and the multiple wounds and lacerations on her mouth and hind legs, Kari showed her gratitude for being rescued from the streets.😸🩷

Kari has already found a loving home that welcomes her despite her wariness of humans. With kindness and patience, her new family will show Kari that they can be trusted. 🤩

📢Copo needs your help!
The 1-year-old female dog was tragically hit by a vehicle and now requires urgent surgery. Copo is a beloved community dog in Ilumán, lovingly cared for by her neighbors. One of her dedicated caretakers, who feeds her daily, brought her to our hospital seeking help.

The neighbors in Ilumán have provided security camera footage of the incident, which they are using to file a report. This footage underscores the importance of educating drivers to slow down and respect the lives of both people and animals.

In a heartwarming turn of events, one of Copo’s caretakers has decided to adopt her, ensuring she no longer has to suffer on the streets. 🐾🩷

✨Meet Paco, an 11-year-old German Shepherd mix, and Aurelio, a 3-year-old Poodle mix. Both dogs were brought to our hospital after concerned citizens reported their poor welfare condition. They have since received the necessary medical care, including neutering, vaccinations, and deworming, thanks to a grant from SPCA International . This grant has also funded the sterilization of an additional 90 animals in Indigenous communities around Cotacachi.🫶

Paco and Aurelio are now looking for loving homes where they can spend the rest of their lives. They did not come together and do not need to be adopted together.

Florentina, a community dog from Quiroga, wandered into the auditorium during our Be Kind education program. She sat patiently among the children, waiting for the lesson to end.🐾🩷

Our team noticed that Florentina was severely malnourished, so we transported her to our hospital for an assessment. After receiving veterinary care and proper nourishment, she was spayed.

Abandoned at a construction site, Crackle, a 10-month-old puppy, was discovered by a concerned citizen who heard his cries for help. Our team rushed to the scene and found Crackle in dire condition, frightened and untrusting, and with scratch marks on the walls showing his desperate attempts to escape.

Upon arrival at the hospital, Crackle received immediate medical attention. He was suffering from severe anemia, malnourishment, and dehydration. With the right care and attention, Crackle is on the path to a full recovery.💙🥳

Susi is a 3-year and 7-month-old community dog that was reported and taken to the Hospital by a local Expat. Unfortunately, Susi was hit by a vehicle and suffered multiple fractures in her hip, along with a dislocation of her left hind leg.

Susi joined our TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) program in November 2023 and has since been lovingly cared for by the residents of the street she lives on. Multiple individuals care for her in the street, and have provided her with food, baths, and even grooming. Despite their efforts, Susi was hit by a vehicle and has now arrived at Amici Cannis in a dire condition.

Susi urgently needs your help to cover her medical and surgical expenses which amount to approximately $500. Additionally, she requires a loving home to care for her post-surgery and help limit her activity, as her current situation on the streets would not allow her to recover properly.

Meet Oscar, one of Cotacachi's community cats. He is a 2-year-old cat who was captured by neighbors in the market area using one of our cage traps. Oscar is not very sociable, and the wounds on his face show he was involved in fights with other cats over females in heat.

Oscar came into the hospital to be neutered under our TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) program and he received additional care, including the FVRCP vaccine to protect him against 3 highly contagious and life-threatening feline diseases. ✨
