The Sisters are now 4 1/2 months old and we are STILL working on their eyes. Good Lordā¦Talk about a loooong-term project! Itās a constant pivot for me, as I change meds and alter treatments, trying to figure out the right combinations of meds and methods that allows them to keep their eyeballs, even though their sight is limited (Amal) or gone (Sabrine). Sabrine still has another rupture to endure, Iām afraid. Her case has been particularly challenging, since she has not only had repeated ruptures, she also has two ulcers that wonāt respond to treatment, as you can see in the photo. Sheās comfortable and happy, very playful, so please donāt worry for her. Sheās a very happy kittenš
My goal has always been to have the same result with them as I had with Briseis, but Briseisās eyeballs healed very differently than The Sistersā have. Their eyeballs have disappeared for the most part, and the socket is sunken in, and it waters constantly. Infections come back faster, and it always feels like thereās an open wound that will never heal. So now, as they approach the time (and appropriate weight) to get them spayed, I am considering the option of sewing the eye sockets shut. Itās not what I wanted, but I am starting to feel like itās the best way to get their eyes totally healed. But just so you know, they LOVE to rub their watery eyeballs on us. Itās the highest form of affection šµāš«š
Stay tuned.
Note: At ABK, we never ask for money to fund our kitten rescue. However, if you follow our page, we would like for you to consider sharing our posts, to raise awareness about the joy that rescuing brings so that others may consider rescuing as well, and to showcase our success stories, which are far more valuable, to us, than donations. Street cats are the best cats!
