Hello friends, I hope everyone, furry and human is doing well.
Our pets dont have voices so we need to be observant as to behavior changes in our pets. That is how they let us know that things are not quite right. There are some very noticeable signs of pain in your pet..
If your pet trembles for no obvious reason, such as tremors in the hind parts,, that could mean there is discomfort there.
If you notice that they are having a hard time maintaining their usual "p**ping and p*eing" posture- that may signify back pain. This goes for your cats too..
Does your pet sometimes hesitate to go up or down stairs or fall going up or down some times? Hesitant or slower when going downstairs could mean shoulder or chest discomfort. Hard time going up, could mean problems in the back or hind areas.
If your pet normally loves affection, and all of a sudden avoids it or nips at you,( dogs and cats will grab your hand with their teeth to let you know that hurts!) They are showing you where it hurts.
Loss of appetite and lethargy are also symptoms that your pet needs help, as is excessive thirst and extreme weakness in their limbs
All or any of these changes warrant a visit to the vet. It is never a good idea to try and treat your pet with human medicines , without consulting your vet first. Some can be very harmful to them...
We have to respond to changes in our pets behavior changes because that's how they let us know they dont feel well.
Be well everyone! Happy belated dog day!

Hello friends, I hope all my furfamiles are having a great summer with their furbabies.
I'd like to talk today about your dog or cat and their safety outside. If your pet is outside most of the day while you are at work, and relies on a pet door or dog or cat shelter outside, please be aware of the big influx of bears and Bobcats coming back into our areas. They will go after your pet. Be very aware when you are walking in the woods and read the posts at the kiosks at most trail heads..
The purchase of a can of bear mace might be a good thing to have if you walk in the woods alot with your dog. I got one on Amazon.
If a bear is reported in your area, consider keeping your pet in while you are out and having someone come by and let them out mid day. (I'm around).
Also keep an eye on the sky if you let a little dog or your small cat out. A hawk will have no problem grabbing a small pet and taking off with it. A hawk can fly with three x it's own weight in its beaks. They start to circle above their pray and fly lower and lower til they make the grab. Please be aware of these dangers for your pets, (and you as well), and be safe out there.
Talk to you soon....

Hi there friends, I'd like to mention a few ways to keep your dog cool when you are out on hot weather
1st, always bring cold water with you . Enough for both of you to adequately hydrate in the heat . Some dogs take medications that will make them very thirsty, so bring enough to hydrate your pet at least 2x per hour in extreme heat.
2nd, step out onto the pavement barefoot for 10 seconds. If your feet are burning, so are your dogs paw pads. Pick a shady route or a grass or dirt path to walk them. Protect the paws!
3rd walk your dog in the cool of the early morning or in the evening after sundown on very hot days. Try to avoid 12-6 o 'clock hours.4th if your dog is older shorten their walks in the heat by half.
5th, when outside always have cool water and shade for your dog. In very hot weather don't leave your dog out all day while you are at work, without a way to escape the heat. Whether you put in a pet door or have someone come check on them..
6th, please NEVER leave your pet in a hot car, while you run into a store for just "10" minutes. The temperature outside could be only 70° but will soar up to 100° in just 10 minutes or less. And leaving your windows down could result in the theft of your pet or injury if they suddenly leap out of the window into traffic or a busy parking lot.
Be safe friends..happy 4th of July! And be mindful of fireworks stress in your pet in the upcoming week...

Hello friends, sorry for not posting for the last 2 months. I'd like to talk today about the importance of knowing what's in the water your dog is swimming in. Always check out whatever info kiosks, signs, or notices are posted at the entrances to most parks and lakes, or waterways. If it says there is a high bacteria count dont let your dog in.more important, if it says anything about blue algae that means it could make your dog really sick as it goes to the respiratory system. Dont let your dog or yourself swim for that matter. Very bad for your pet. Small stagnant ponds are not good either. Alot of pollen on and in the water can cause eye and ear irritations to your dog too. Always check the info as the summer progresses as the waters change all year long. Be safe friends!

18/04/2020

Hello friends,
Well I dont know about you, but for my dog Loki, it's SWIMMING season!!!! He would go in all year long if I'd let him. If your dog is a swimmer like mine, it's very important to dry inside of their ears as much as possible every time they swim. This will help them avoid getting a yeast infection or an ear infection. If your dog has been swimming alot and wakes up vigorously shaking his head for much of the day, or continuously pawing at his ear, then it's time for a vet visit. If you are drying your dogs ears, use a corner of a clean towel to dab up any water left inside the first big ear canal. Be careful not to go too deep or you can hurt them. Also dry well the inside of the ear flap. The dryer the ear the better. I dont use q tips, in case he shakes his head.
If you do go to the vet and they prescribe ointment to sq**rt into the ear, I always ask for the big tube, so it lasts most of the summer. My boy gets them alot even though I dry his ears, some dogs just do.
Make sure your dog stays out of stagnant water like vernal ponds etc. I always check the postings at the parks to see if there is any advisory on the water, to be safe. Some algae is very bad for your dog to be submerged in.
Have a nice swim!!

Hello friends,
I pray you are all well and healthy in these strange times. If ever there was a time when your pet will be essential to you it's now. Pets can be a great source of calm and company at a time like this. Cuddling and hugging my boy Loki comforts me like nothing else can. He also gets me outside and exercising, hiking and walking is also very calming.
I would suggest for now, that you dont let others touch your pet while you are out, because this virus can live on your pets fur for a few hours. If you make a spray bottle with an alchohol and water solution, spray some of it on a paper towel, and give your dog a light swipe over their fur to sanitize. There is no scientific evidence that a pet can contract covid19, or pass it to a human. I say this as a precaution because I want everyone I know safe and healthy when this finally passes.
Stay healthy, stay sanitized, STAY HOME!

22/03/2020

Dear friends, in this time of crisis, it is important that you all know, that there is NO evidence that COVID 19 can be spread by your pets or that they can contract this virus. Please do NOT dump your pet at a shelter. This has been happening at an alarming rate at shelters across the country. People get scared and dont learn or pay attention to the facts and information that is out there for us.
In fact, in this time of isolation, your pet can be a real source of comfort and make you feel less lonely.
Please think twice before breaking your pets heart and dumping them off at a shelter. For some it will be very difficult because of being out of work for weeks, with no money coming in. We have to ride this virus out. And and make sure we have enough food ,snacks and medications for our pets.
You wouldn't dump off your relatives if they were sick, so please treat your pet like the family member that they truly are and keep them safe at home with you. PLEASE DON'T DUMP YOUR PET!!!!! Be safe and well everyone!

Hi there friends. Sorry about not posting for a long time here, but I'll be posting again now on a regular basis.
Shedding and flea season is upon us. Because of the warm winter we've been experiencing, the fleas and ticks will be brutal this spring. I would suggest a preemptive strike by giving your floors and carpets a pass with the flea and tick spray so they don't find their way into your house. Also it's a good idea to put the flea and tick repellent on your dog or cat all year long if they spend time outside at all.
Shedding will be right behind the fleas, so I recommend a good deshedding tool and a brush to get your dogs coat thinned out and cleaner. Removing all that old dead fur is like taking an unwanted sweater off of them. Their skin gets aired out and their coat will shine and they feel so much more comfortable .

11/01/2020

Hello there friends,
The weather has been on the warmer side so far this winter, and that makes us want to get outside with our pets. It's very important to make sure we are still using some form of flea and tick repellant on our pets, even though we've had a couple of snowfalls, that is no guarantee that these pests have been eliminated. Even your indoor cats have the potential to pick up fleas and ticks that will " ride in" on people or other sources. If your dog only goes outside to p*e and comes right back in ( this is awful for a normal dog, by the way) you still need the protection on them. Those fleas would love nothing more than to bed down in your nice warm house for the winter, so avoid that ordeal and expense and get that flea and tick repellant on them monthly to be covered. So, get out there and take your dog on that walk or hike in the woods, or let your cat out to sun itself and hunt for your next "gift" to leave at the back door, just protect them before you go! Have a great week of outdoor fun.

04/01/2020

Hi friends, I hope everyone enjoyed the holidays!
It is very important for our pets to make sure they get plenty of exercise in the winter months. Walking or hiking through the woods with your dog after a fresh snow is a great way for you and your dog to get some much needed movement it the joints, lower our blood pressure and relax your mind for a bit. Your dog will love to sniff all that great stuff in the woods and bond with you. You should have some sort of flea and tick protection on your pets even in the winter months if you take them in the woods often.
You cats need to be played with daily as well. Whether you use a toy or a laser pointer on the wall, give them a good 20 mins of play a day. They love it and love you for the attention you are giving them.
A happy active and healthy 2020 to all my furry friends and their people!!!!

26/12/2019

A merry Christmas and happy New Year to all of my furry friends and their people! I will resume my weekly posts after January 1st. Work has been brutal so I'm catching up on some much needed sleep. Love and peace to all in 2020!

Hi there friends,
It is important at this time of year to deshed your dog or cats coat. Removing all of the loose fur from its coat is great for skin health and cleanliness. It gets rid of old dirt and dander that sticks to its skin, and allows it to breathe. It reduces itching and skin rashes and irritations. I brush my dog on a daily basis and I find a great way to bond with him every day. He so looks forward to our grooming sessions as do I. And I get compliments all of the time on how shiny his coat is! Not having to sweep up big clumps of hair from all over the floors is another plus for deshedding, as is the reduction of funky odors eminating from their fur. So try to get into a daily routine of brushing your pets coat- cat or dogs will appreciate the care and attention from you!

Dear friends, sorry I haven't been posting for a couple of weeks, but I've just become a first time grandma! My daughter has given me a beautiful grandson! We have a new member in our pack!
Our pets are our best friends, but they serve us in many more ways, that we don't even realize. They greet us everyday at the door in a way that makes us feel like the best person in the world. They are our unpaid psychiatrists, and our blood pressure reducers, our sounding boards, our givers of affection anytime we need it, our protection, and no matter what, they are never mad at us and are always happy to see us. They make us feel like the best person in the whole world all the time.
For that reason, the first canine ,sexual abuse support dog has been sworn in by the court system. To support survivors of sexual assault as they testify in court. This is very important, because it could mean the difference between someone who is terrified to be in court alone, and someone who feels confident to testify, because they have the support and calmness of a trained support dog.
Hattie is 2 year old black lab, trained by inmates to be a therapy dog. This took place in Cook county, Illinois with Hatties paw resting on the bible as she was sworn in. This is an example that ALL court systems should follow without fail. It could mean the difference for someone who would not report an assault for fear of seeing her attacker again in court, or someone who says lets get this person off the streets, because I'm NOT afraid, I have support and confidence standing with me on 4 paws!

Hello friends, it's that time of year again! FLEA time! Noooooo! If you are among the unfortunate people whose fur friend came home with these annoying pests, you must immediately FLEA dip your pet and treat them with a good FLEA and tick preventative on a monthly basis.remove your pet temporarily from the home (if possible) and treat the house. Spray and vacuum the hell out of the floors and carpeting, removing and discarding the garbage bag each time. I do this every September as a preventive with the floors, even if my pets are flealess. Wash any bedding, including your own in hot water and detergent. Please use a good FLEA and tick preventative on your pet so your pet won't get a tick borne skin infection, anemia, tapeworm, and a bacterial bartonellosis condition. A pet with fleas is miserable and can't rest or sleep comfortably and is extremely stressful to you furbaby. Get those fleas before they get you!!!

16/10/2019

Hi friends, today I would like to talk a bit about our feline friends. If your cat is constipated at all his quality of life is miserable. If your cat is straining or vocalizes when deficating. Or can't quite get the p**p all the way out and you have to help it by manually removing it, then it's time to get your cat to the vet asap!
This is a very serious condition for a cat and must be taken care of immediately.
Some causes of cat constipation are: a dirty uncleaned litter box. Stress in the home, ie, it's people screaming and yelling, continued loud noise, children that want to "play" with the cat when it wants to be left alone, lack of a nice hiding spot, dirty food or water dishes. Also a disease of the re**um or a**s and dehydration. Please pay close attention to your cat once in a while when its using the litter box, to be sure everything is coming out smoothly.

Hi friends,
It is very important to sash your pets water bowl and food dish as often as possible. If you can, after every meal on the food dish and every morning for the fresh water bowl. It is actually very stressful to your pet (cats especially), to eat out of a crusty, dirty, bacteria filled dish every meal. You wouldn't do it! Washing the water dish keeps the water fresher, and the bowl not lined with that slimy build-up from the minerals etc from the water. This is on the list of the 10 most stressful things for your pet. They can't do the dishes on their own. You must do it as often as possible, with a clean new sponge meant only for the dogs dishes, with soap and water.

Hi there friends, cold weather is on the way. To keep your dog safe and healthy during the winter, remember that for puppies and older dogs 20 degrees is the point where you should not leave your pets outside without a warm shelter of some kind for any longer than a half hour. This goes for smaller breeds too. 10-15 degrees is ok for medium or large dogs, for a shorter length of time as well. When it's below 10 degrees, keep the outdoor activity to a minimum for all pets. No leaving the dog or cat outside all day while you are out, period. If you must leave them out you must have a dog or cat house with hay or frequently changed and cleaned blankets that they can hunker down in. And a heated water dish, for fresh water all day. (A frozen water dish is useless to your pet). If your cat goes outside, they also need a warm place to go in weather below 20 degrees. If they are elderly, limit the time they spend out in weather below 32 degrees. Remember to put a protecting ointment on your dogs paws in icy cold weather. Their feet get cold after a certain point too! Keep your furbabies warm and hydrated when its cold outside!

Autumn is coming..leaf piles and bushes are great places for ticks and fleas to hitch a ride on your dog or cat. Apply a tick and flea repellent monthly. And brush and check your pets fur for ticks. Flea season is coming!!

Look at this silly pup! Message me for Pet sitting rates so your dog can stay this happy even when you're away!

Did you know? Hiring a pet sitter while you're on vacation can be 50% cheaper than using a dog kennel? Studies have also shown that staying in a familiar place is better mentally for the animal. Especially for an elderly or anxious dog.

04/09/2019

Hi friends, this is a reminder to keep applying the tick and flea medicine all autumn and winter long.fleas and ticks can ride home on your pet from just a walk in the woods or going sniffing around in the bushes. Keep your furbabies safe from these pests..

30/08/2019

To give your dog a nice shiny coat, brush them daily with a good dog brush with one side for brushing against th grin of their coat to loosen dirt and shedding hair . And one side with regular bristles with the grain to remove the dirt and hair. If you have a long haired dog or cat, daily brushing will eliminate or reduce painful matting. It's also a nice way to relax and bond with your pet.
