I talked about these moments yesterday and I might as well share them here! Sigrid is blind. Sigrid came to us in a very bad shape since she was abandoned and found in the streets. Early on we spotted some resource guarding issues, fear/discomfort based aggression displayed towards dogs and humans.
After working mostly on our relationship, exploring and building a tolerance for whatever the world might throw at us, she’s a very calm and confident dog.
After getting blind, she doesn’t really take other dogs into consideration, she just walks into them and expects them to move, if they don’t, she’ll end up under or on top of them. That can be dangerous, sure, but I’m there 😉
Be patient and expose your dog to the world and make sure you both come out safe and happy. It’s also ok to make mistakes, as long as we pick up the pieces and make something new💪
Sigrid once wore a muzzle, with a worried Ulph holding the leash thinking “will I ever be able to bring her with me?” and look at her now, all tangled up with her snuggle buddy Max 💚

It’s Monday! LET’S GET TO WORK!
Solid gang right here!!! 🐶🐶🐶 Rainy days are also made for adventures 😤
Im not a big fan of selfies but I’m definitely a fan of reading books on the countryside surrounded by snoring fluff-monsters!
This how I spent new years and I did not complain 🙈👌
RUFFALO BILL! This guy is improving a lot, and fast! Long walk today with 73839 close dog encounters without one undesired reaction! Smashed it 💥
What better way to celebrate the end of a year and the beginning of another one?!
2023 has been great and I’m SO THANKFUL for all of you who support me and trust me with your furry friends! I can’t wait to dig deeper into the canine mind, learn more and become better!
Much love!!! 💚💚💚
When your handsome friends shows up with good looking clothes like this, it’s hard not to shoot some photos! We still have some shirts and hoodies left if you want one!
I’m not sure what to say😅
Being able to skate with Shana might take time🤣
…or not?
My dream team right here! I really do want to have one more gun dog (don’t tell or ) and some herding breed! If someone has an endless amount of time and a farm to spare, let me know 😅
Happy Sunday! Especially to the ladies who got upset when I asked them recall their dog from us, I will always stand up for my dog! Their safety comes before human emotions 💪💚
WE ARE BACK!
Do you how to slow your dog down? Knowing your dog so well that you actually can help them relax can be extremely useful in so many ways. Nervous on walks? Anxious when left alone? Reactive? Decompression and sleep/deep relaxation plays a HUGE role in ours and dog’s wellbeing. Practice calm.
This is Mus after a bit of mental games and a short session playing tug. He was very tired but yet a bit too excited to sleep which is common (especially for an adolescent Border Collie 😅).
Winding down together sorted that out!
Update on Teo’s dog reactivity ✌️
Two days ago I took him out on walk with Sigrid and there was no issues 😎
We started off at home with a lot of space to run off/avoid scary interactions and after some scatter snacking close to each other (but separated with fences) it was time to go for a walk. No reactions, hard stares or anything bad was going on and this is a huge step for Teo. Soon he can come on longer walks with more dogs, longer leashes and more freedom!
Last time these two saw eachother Teo was lunging and barking at Nona. Nona wasn’t much better, but her acting wasn’t based on fear as Teo’s. Nona had a crazy urge to run up to everyone and jump and nip other dogs in their ears etc. and that can easily become dangerous, you don’t want to bite the wrong dog in the ear 😅
After spending time with us Nona has been much calmer and she’s been running around here without bothering anyone 👌
Teo stayed calm today eating snacks with THREE other dogs in the same room ✌️ In the photos you can see that Teo is in a room by himself. He has all the power and control in his hands here, he can run off, hide and create distance between him and Nona but he just chose to be calm and have a snack. Practice calmness and set your to success!
Sometimes smaller pieces become one big beautiful thing, like a pearl necklace on Sigrid 😂
This is Lola! She is extremely nervous and easily stressed around new people, traffic and the big city life in general.
I hope to be able to work a lot with her and yesterday I got to spend some alone time with her for the first time. We pushed quickly thru the scary streets and as soon as we reached the hills she relaxed, started to sniff around and investigate her surroundings. Working with fear can be such a long complicated process but I always start at the same place:
Breed appropriate stress relief.
When she calmed down she started taking treats from me and we could even do some basic exercises. She is still a bit suspicious of me so I take it slow to just to gain her trust.
Big respect to her people helping her out ❤️🐶
🐶❤️
Had a great evening with Sascha and his lovely Gordita! We will be working on some obedience and behaviour modification together and it’s already looking promising! 🐶💪🎾

This is just a funny video of us playing the nosebonk-game, a game that I initially only taught Max but as you can see, Shana started to join in and learnt the game as well! As I said before, I don’t cue this verbally, I want it to be a visual cue that encourages our dogs to keep an extra eye on us @susangarrettdogsthat style! There will be a video soon about my take on throwing food on the ground since I’ve come across strong and generalised opinions that don’t correlate with what I see or do on a daily basis! Stay tuned for that one!
To have 3 dogs off leash can be a handful to say the least, therefore I always make sure that we’re all on the same page before the beasts are let loose. If you’re having trouble with recall and off leash manners, start here; with the START. How do you begin your walk? Is your dog pulling you towards the park and as soon as the leash is off they take off ignoring you no matter how many treats and toys you offer? Establish a set of rules and little routine so you start your walk being connected to each other. 💚
