Selected taking into account the classification of the FEI Endurance Open Riders World Ranking, among these stand out names of great importance such as the winner Julia Montagne (FRA), the two French Clementine Chaud and Lea Vogler, Guillem Soldevila Altarriba and Maria Alvarez Ponton from Spain, the Italian Costanza Laliscia and Leonor Moreira from Portugal.

Equine researchers investigating causes of equine early pregnancy loss have shown that niacin (a precursor to NAD) may provide an insight into the mechanisms surrounding equine embryo loss. In humans & mice nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) deficiency is known to be one of the causes of recurrent miscarriage & embryonic loss. The researchers found that after oral supplementation of niacin, NAD metabolites were elevated in follicular fluid. Equine Herpes (EHV-1) has been detected in four horses which had recently taken part in Spain’s CES Valencia Spring Tour.


On 20 February 2021, the FEI Veterinary Department was informed that four horses that had participated at the CES Valencia Spring Tour 2021 jumping event in Spain tested positive to EHV-1 following PCR laboratory analysis of a nasopharyngeal swab. The affected horses had left the venue on 14 February and showed clinical signs consistent with the disease shortly afterwards. As of 21 February 2021, 50 horses at the event venue developed pyrexia and one horse showed neurological signs. All athletes whose horses have attended and left the event since 1 February 2021 are being traced. They are required to implement biosecurity measures and testing of their horses as well as any in-contact horses. The competition at Valencia has been cancelled. As of 22 February 2021, 150 horses remain on the venue and are subject to biosecurity measures and testing under the direction of the FEI veterinarians and local veterinary authority. Any horse that has attended the event since 1 February 2021 has been prevented from attending any future FEI events until the FEI’s EHV-1 testing requirements have been fulfilled.
