Beatriz Alcocer, veterinarian of the Emergency and Intensive Care Service of UNAVETS, gives us the keys to respond in the event of a possible poisoning.
🐱 Cats: They don't get poisoned that often, but be careful with plants! Some flowers such as poinsettias can be very toxic.
🐶 Dogs: They are more curious and have a tendency to swallow things outside their diet, which puts them at greater risk.
⚠️ Symptoms that can alert you:
- Bleeding (nose, eyes, gums, abdomen...)
- Lack of coordination
- Hyper-reactivity
- Behavioural changes after a walk
👩⚕️ What to do?
➡️ Go to the vet as quickly as possible.
➡️ If you know what has been swallowed, bring the container or a sample.
➡️ Don't wait for severe symptoms to appear. Early treatment can save your dog's life.

🐱 Gatos: No se intoxican con tanta frecuencia, pero ¡ojo con las plantas! Algunas flores como la flor de Pascua pueden ser muy tóxicas.
🐶 Perros: Son más curiosos y tienen tendencia a ingerir cosas fuera de su dieta, lo que los pone en mayor riesgo.
⚠️ Síntomas que pueden alertarte:
• Sangrados (nariz, ojos, encías, abdomen...)
• Incoordinación
• Hiperreactividad
• Cambios de comportamiento tras un paseo
👩⚕️ ¿Qué hacer?
➡️ Acude al veterinario lo antes posible.
➡️ Si sabes qué ha ingerido, lleva el envase o una muestra.
➡️ No esperes a que aparezcan síntomas graves. Un tratamiento precoz puede salvarle la vida.
