🐶Dog Travel News🐶

In some news for jet-setting pups, Italy is setting a global example and leading the pack in pet welfare; medium and large dogs can now travel in an aircraft cabin, side by side with their pet parents. Previously only small dogs up to 10kg were allowed.

Dogs must be housed in secure carriers that can be placed on seats and buckled up. They should not exceed the average passenger weight limit.

This change is largely driven by concerns about the welfare of pets, as cargo travel can be stressful and potentially risky for dogs.

While the regulation is in place, individual airlines still have the discretion to set their own specific policies regarding pet transport. Some airlines, like ITA Airways and Neos, have already adopted policies to accommodate this change, offering special seating arrangements and pet-friendly policies.

The move has been met with enthusiasm by many pet owners who welcome the more humane and convenient approach to pet travel.

There are ongoing discussions about making train travel more pet-friendly as well.

🐾 How Long Can You Leave Your Dog Home Alone? 🐾

We get asked this all the time: “How long is it OK to leave my dog alone at home?” Well, the law in Spain has a clear answer — and so do animal experts.

👩‍⚕️ Animal expert advice is:
🐶 Adult dogs: Max 6 hours alone per day
🐾 Puppies & senior dogs: Max 2 hours
🐱 Cats: Best not to leave alone for more than 24 hours – they need fresh food, water, and stimulation
🐹 Small animals (rabbits, guinea pigs, etc.): Daily check-ins are essential for health and comfort
🚶‍♂️ Dogs need at least 3 walks per day, ideally 30–45 min each

📜 And the NEW Spanish Animal Welfare Law (2023) protects animals from a complete negligence:
➡️ It is illegal to leave your dog alone for more than 24 hours straight
➡️ And for cats and other pets (like rabbits or ferrets), the limit is 72 hours (3 days)
🔴Breaking this law can lead to fines of €500 to €10,000

💡 Bottom line?
Even if you're not breaking the law, long hours alone can lead to boredom, anxiety, or destructive behavior and affect your pet’s wellbeing.

🐾 Happy Tails Story 🐾

Today near a busy Stoke Road in Guildford our amazing Sam spotted a scared dog wandering dangerously close to traffic. Without hesitation, Sam stepped in, gently secured the pup, and made sure he was safe. The dog — a sweet soul named Henry — had gone missing and was being desperately searched for by his worried owner Valerie. Thanks to Sam’s quick thinking and compassion, Henry was reunited with Valerie, who was overwhelmed with relief and gratitude. We're so proud of Sam for preventing what could have been a tragic accident — and giving this story the happy ending it deserves! 🐶❤️
