🥵☀️ HEATSTROKE MYTH NO2 ☀️🥵

🧊🧊 Ice is not dangerous to give your pet to help keep them cool 🧊🧊

Another false viral social media post circulating the Internet is that giving ice to your pets to help keep them cool is dangerous. FALSE ❌❌❌

If your dog is healthy and just feeling warm on a hot day, you can give them ice cubes.

The ice cubes need to be an appropriate size for your dog, for example a small dog can’t be given a large ice cube as they could be a choking risk.

What is even better is making tasty frozen dog treats by popping a bit of xylitol-free peanut butter, meat paste, salmon or tuna in an ice cube tray alongside some water. You could even stuff their favourite treat or dog kibble in there too.

Or even frozen 🍎 apple slices or my dogs favourite, frozen carrots. 🥕

You can try out to keep them cool and mentally stimulated. 🧠

Of course the best way to prevent heatstroke in dogs is to exercise at appropriate times of the day, do not lock them inside sunny unventilated areas such as terraces, cars etc, and keep thick coats groomed.

If your dogs are showing any signs of heatstroke such as those below, or your concerned about your pet contact your closest vet immediately.

🥵 Laboured panting
🥵 Hypersalivation / Drooling
🥵 Dark red gums
🥵 Collapse
🥵 Disorientated
🥵 Vomiting

🚨 pet first aid for heatstroke 🚨

- move your pet to a shaded, well ventilated area

- if you are with someone ask them to start the car and call it down (like putting the Aircon on)

- Immediately pour cool (not cold to avoid shock) water over the dog. In a true emergency, any water is better than nothing.

- if conscious, allow the pet to drink cool water. Do not force anything into their mouth, due to risk of choking

- place wet towels on your pets, on their groin and armpits, and refresh every minute. Do not leave towels over your pet as this can trap heat.

- Contact the closest vet to tell them you will be coming in an emergency

A post shared thousands of times in Canada warns of dire consequences for the health of dogs if they are fed ice cubes. This is false. The Canadian Veterinary Medical Association told AFP that a few ice cubes are fine for healthy dogs.

🥵 ☀️ HEATSTROKE MYTH NO 1 ☀️ 🥵

Lemon juice does not loosen, dissolve or remove saliva from a dogs mouth if they are suffering from heatstroke.

If anything, the chances of them aspirating (inhale or “going down the wrong hole”) is huge.

When dogs have heatstroke they can often pant excessively and produce lots of saliva, and some people are reading online that lemon juice will help clear this if they pour or sq**rt it into the dog's mouth. FALSE

When golden eyes no longer glow,
and we both know it’s time to go,

Don’t look at me with eyes so sad,
but think of better times we had,

When sunlight did upon us shine,
and happy days were yours and mine,

And through the grass we both did run,
and on our backs we felt the sun,

Think not of this dark final hour,
think not of when our lives turned sour,

Think not of hopelessness and pain,
but think of joy and laugh again,

For in that final act of love,
you released me to heaven above,

Where finally from pain I’m free,
where one day you will join with me,

Where together again we will rejoice,
and you and I as with one voice,

Will in perfect harmony sing,
of the joy and pain that love can bring,

And remember me just as I will,
always think of you until,

At last again I see your face,
grieve not, I am in a better place.

There must be Borrowed Angels, here in this life,
They come along, into this world, and make this world bright,
But they can't stay forever,
Cause they're heaven sent,
And sometimes, heaven needs them back again. ♥️🌈🐾

Run free little Lulu, forever missed and never forgotten.

We would like to wish our friends, two legs and four, a Happy and Safe Easter 🐣

Remember chocolate 🍫 is a NO NO for our pets, as little as 100g of milk chocolate for a toy breed dog can be life threatening! Keep chocolate out of reach. Dark chocolate is more dangerous as it contains more Theobromine and Caffeine. Signs include:
🍫 vomiting
🍫diarrhoea
🍫high heart rate
🍫tremors
🍫seizures
🍫and could even lead to death.

Along with chocolate, other Easter goodies are also toxic to our pets. Raisins and sultanas (usually found in hot cross buns this time of year) are dangerous to pets, so make sure any of these treats are securely locked away.

If your planning a Easter Sunday Roast dinner, avoid giving bones. These can be dangerous to dogs as they can cause digestive tract damage caused by splinters, particularly with cooked chicken bones. Larger pieces of bone can also cause blockages in the throat or bowel, which is life threatening.

Left overs can also cause digestive upset and contain lots of calories. Though we all want to show our pets how much we love them, excessive amounts of human food can have a huge impact on their weight. 🐾

It’s been a lovely sunny week for dog walks! 🐾 ☀️

Chester and Lulu had a bath this week 🧼 , and Big Luna had a good brush as her coat is blowing.

Little Luna had a visit to the vets in the town centre, just for socialisation and a town walk to get used to street noises and more people! (As you can see she is getting more and more confident!)

I have the best work colleagues ever 🐕🐈♥️🐾

Finally some sunshine ☀️ to enjoy with Luna🌙 🐺
She’s not the best catcher though hehe! 😂

✔️ It’s Tick Season ✔️

Unsure how to remove? Or need a tick twister in your pet box? Than contact us!

Beautiful Mac had an unwanted free rider attached to his Face!!

Not only are ticks unpleasant, but they can also be dangerous to our pets as they can carry harmful diseases such as Lyme disease.

Ticks should be removed as soon as possible.

❌ Never remove a tick by pulling, crushing or squeezing ❌ - they have a large body and a small head which attaches to the skin, if you pull the tick you are likely to leave the head behind which can cause an infection.

1️⃣ Slide a tick twisting tool under the tick, as close to the skin as possible.*

2️⃣ Make sure the tick is held firmly inside the hook. Use a smaller hook if it feels loose.

3️⃣ Twist the tool two to three times in one direction until you feel the tick loosen from your pet. DO NOT PULL THE TICK - it will let go when you twist.

4️⃣ Slowly lift the tool away when you feel the tick loosen, it should stay trapped in the hook

5️⃣ After removing the tick, clean the area and monitor your pet for any signs of illness. If you’re unsure about removing the tick yourself, contact us for help.

*You can use normal tweezers but be very careful to hold the tick as close to the skin as possible

Who’s next? 🐾

Sooooo much fluff

Because of post-operative care, one of my regular waggle-bums wasn’t able to do his regular walk. So instead we gave some extra TLC with brushing! They were all queuing up and even the cat wanted to get in with the action 🐕🐈‍⬛

Feline Thursdayyyyy 😍

Mr T and his friends had a visit for worming today! He posed beautifully and waited for his treatment.

(( You can see the Calima Haze, an atmospheric phenomenon in which dust, smoke, and other dry particulates obscure the clarity of the sky ))

He is now treated from gastrointestinal worms like tapeworm, roundworm and hookworm! As well as protected from lungworm and heartworm. 🪱

As well as worms, he is now also protected from Fleas, Ticks and Mites!

Yes that’s right! Two Luna’s and a Lulu! Just to make it easy for me.
Luna will be spending time with us for puppy play, socialisation walks and just general enrichment!
Here is some of her snippets on her first day! We made sure it was SUPER positive, with lots of praise and not too much or overwhelming for her.

😻 Happy Caturday 😻

To celebrate the weekend, I thought I’d share a scrummy cheap recipe that you can make for your furry feline!

These tasty tuna treats are the ideal way to spoil your cat without spending too much!

Homemade treats are a great way to show your cat you love them. You can easily make them at home with only three ingredients!

Ingredients

You will need:

🐱1 tin of tuna in water (undrained)
🐱1 egg (beaten)
🐱250g plain flour (can be gluten-free)
🐱Extra water
🐱OPTIONAL: Biscuit cutters (they'll need to be fairly small for your cat)

Method

🐾 Preheat your oven to gas mark 4 or 180°C (160°C for a fan oven) and line a baking tray with baking paper.
🐾 Blend the tuna until it is smooth (you can use a hand blender for this if you don't have a food processor).
🐾 In a large mixing bowl, combine the tuna and egg. Add in the flour and mix thoroughly to form a dough. If the mixture is too dry, add a little water. We recommend sifting the flour but this isn't necessary.
🐾 Once you've made your dough, roll it out on a lightly floured surface to about ¼ inch thick.
🐾 Cut out your biscuits and put them on the lined baking tray. If you have a small cutter you can use this, if not cut the dough into small morsel size pieces.
🐾 Bake in the oven for 20 minutes or until the biscuits are crunchy.
🐾 Let the biscuits cool and store them in an airtight container for up to two weeks.

and don’t forgot to share some pictures of your cats enjoying their home made treats 😻

Happy 9th Birthday to this Beautiful Boy.
I had the pleasure to spend the day with Nelson and celebrate with lots of fun.
He was cheeky and unravelled my poo bag roll and ran off with it, obviously one big game 🐾
