🤚 What is Hand stripping 🤚

✅ Hand stripping is a process of removing excess dead topcoat hairs, without clipping, leaving room for the new coat to grow and giving a more natural look. It keeps the dog’s coat tidy and healthy, leaving it strong and shiny.

✅ It is done by plucking/pulling the hairs out in the direction of growth. If the coat is not manually removed, the hair follicle can become clogged and matted and this can lead to irritation for the dog or more advanced problems later.

✅ A dog’s hair follicle is made up of a thick guard hair and soft undercoat. The cycle of growth for hard, wiry coats has 4 stages (shown in the graphic).

✅ So this means the dog’s coat will grow and only shed hair when it reaches the maximum length. Hand stripping therefore naturally works alongside this cycle to remove the shedding hair making room for a new coat to grow. The Resting phase is when hand stripping is best carried out as the hair follicle is easiest removed at this stage without causing pain to the dog.

Hand stripping is a long and meticulous process that should only be done by a trained professional. If you need any help or advice, please don't hesitate to contact us.

Introduction to Dog Grooming For Puppies (from 16 weeks)

Visiting the dog grooming salon for the first time is a stressful experience for puppies of all breeds. The unique smell, sounds and touch needs to be managed carefully and effectively to promote positive dog behaviour. Problematic adult dogs don't often get the benefits of this experience, which creates a lack of confidence and fear of the dog grooming salon.

We remove these fears by building confidence and trust of the complete process. Introducing puppies to a new and busy environment needs to be done in a calm and measured way that guarantees positive and sustainable outcomes

Securing dogs during grooming can be a real challenge, particularly when done so using neck restraints. Pooch health, safety and wellbeing is really important to us. This is why we only use the 'Comfy Harness'. This ergonomic restraint secures the Pooch around the breast, front legs and shoulders, making the groom less problematic for the dog, and providing greater control and security for the groomer.
