We recently found a little dog on the streets of Villablanca. It seems she was abandoned, and after a check, we discovered she doesn't have a microchip. We shared her story on social media, but unfortunately, no one has come forward to claim or adopt her. In the meantime, she stayed temporarily with various foster homes, each for a few days, until Maaike returned from my holiday. Since then, she has been with her.
We found someone willing to adopt her, but the adopter cancelled when we discovered she tested positive for filaria after a blood test. Treatment has now started. She is currently receiving Doxycycline for 30 days. After this period, she will receive an injection that acts as a pesticide. Then, after another 30 days, she will get another injection, followed by a final injection 24 hours later. This should completely eliminate the filaria, and she should be healthy afterwards.
In a few weeks, we will do a new blood test to confirm her recovery. Once she is fully healthy, she will be ready for adoption. It’s a tough journey for her, but she’s on the path to a full recovery. The adopter initially named her Nala, but we have since changed it to Vanya, which means "God is Gracious" in Slavic. Hopefully, this name will help her on her journey to health, and she will find her perfect family.
At first, she was quite apathetic and quiet among my group of dogs, but living in the countryside and sleeping comfortably at night with her foster mom (on the bed😅) has been the best for her. She has even caught a few mice, which has been great for her confidence! She’s really coming out of her shell.
As the costs for the injections and tests are quite high (160€ just for the injections), we could really use some donations!
