Looking at the puppies and Enia in the puppy pen is truly entertaining—I could watch them all day. It feels unbelievable that the mother of this litter finished as the #1 winning PBGV in Finland, despite only competing in the last six months.

She had a fantastic debut, winning her first Best in Group at her very first show in 2024, held on the last weekend of June. At all-breed or international shows, she also secured a Reserve Best in Show, three Best in Groups, and ended the year with a Reserve Best in Group win at the prestigious Finnish Winner Show.

CIB CIE IT SL HR CH IT JCH After Me Dare To Dream "Finn" 💙

I met Finn in September in Italy during our trip to EDS '24. Finn, our easy-going boy with a lovely temperament, has found his home in Italy with co-owner Chiara. He has been excelling in both the show ring and the hunting fields.

It was such a pleasure to see what a wonderful boy he has matured into! 🤩

Another BEST IN GROUP win for After Me In The Spotlight “Robin” 🥳!

With an impressive 760 entries, this puppy show turned out to be an amazing day for Robin under judge Maarit Hassinen (breed & group). It was such a joy to see him truly enjoying himself in the ring.

When considering life with a petit basset griffon vendéen, it’s essential to understand the unique characteristics that define this breed.

Understanding the breed's base will help you set realistic expectations and training goals. Each dog’s temperament is shaped by the breed’s original purpose. For a well-bred petit basset, that means originally being an independent hunter, capable of making decisions away from humans while working in a pack.

This base is very different from, for example, spaniel breeds, which were bred to work closely with humans toward specific tasks. This independent nature doesn’t mean petit bassets can’t reach the same training goals as other breeds, but the journey will be different. It requires patience, creativity, and a lot of positive reinforcement to work with their natural instincts rather than against them. 🐾

If you’re considering a petit basset, take the time to think about how their natural traits will fit into your life. I love that the breed is active, outgoing and pretty easily motivated with a coat that, when properly maintained, doesn’t shed around the house. ✅

She repeated what her granddad Ricky Martin did, winning that first group win at the young age of 22 months.
