Beyond the widely-referenced and valuable study conducted in Finland by Laukkanen et al., there’s a growing body of international research confirming the incredible benefits of sauna. A recent study from Sweden by Engström et al., for example, highlights fascinating links between sauna and various positive health outcomes, including happiness:

"Sauna bathers were associated with a healthier life-profile than non-sauna bathers, because they reported less hypertension, less self-reported pain, more satisfying sleep patterns, greater mental and general health as well as higher levels of happiness and energy."

So no wonder Finland, the land of over 3 million saunas, has been ranked the world’s happiest country for seven years in a row.

Honoring Alvar & Aino Aalto and Finnish Design 🇫🇮

Today, February 3rd, we celebrate Alvar (1898-1976) and Aino Aalto (1894-1949) and their legacy and lasting impact on Finnish design and architecture. Their work, rooted in functionality, organic forms, and natural materials, continues to shape modern aesthetics worldwide. Today is also an official flag day in Finland.

At Hetki, we draw inspiration from this tradition and do our small part to carry Finnish design and sauna-building heritage forward. Good morning! Wishing you a wonderful day with this beautiful sunrise in Germany. Featured in the photo is a Hetki Sauna that includes a cozy sauna room and an integrated changing room. To create a traditional and somewhat mystical sauna atmosphere, this particular sauna cabin was designed with a small window and a wooden door, staying true to timeless Finnish sauna traditions rather than having nowadays more popular large windows and glass doors.

Step outside, let winter embrace you, and fall backward into the soft snow. Wave your arms to shape angel wings, and for an extra thrill, roll onto your front side! Feel the snowflakes kiss your skin – like tiny needles waking you up in the most invigorating way.

Then, flow back into the sauna’s warm embrace. Toss water on the rocks, let the steam surround you, and watch the snow melt away from your body.

This Hetki Sauna found its home in France. As part of its fully wooden interior - with walls constructed from robust Finnish spruce logs - the benches and backrest are hand-carved from aspen planks. The sauna is powered by a Narvi Luosto VS wood-burning heater including a hot water tank, also made in Finland by our partner Narvi Finland. 🇫🇮

Happy Independence Day, Finland! 💙🇫🇮🤍 Hyvää itsenäisyyspäivää, Suomi!

Today, December 6th, as we celebrate Finland’s 107th Independence Day, we honor those who built this remarkable country and the brave individuals who gave their lives for our independence and freedom.

We also take pride in the resilient spirit of our people, our free and world-class education system, and the skilled workers and industries that uphold Finland’s reputation for innovation and excellence. At Hetki, we are grateful to contribute to this legacy, even in a tiny way, by crafting genuine log saunas with deep respect for the rich Finnish sauna-building traditions.

The Finnish flag, Siniristilippu ("Blue Cross Flag"), symbolizes our identity and heritage. Its blue cross on a white background is said to reflect Finland’s thousands of lakes and vast skies, while the white represents the snow that blankets our land in winter. Though the cross is traditionally viewed as a Christian symbol, the flag as a whole embodies Finland’s natural beauty and the enduring values we hold dear.

One often overlooked yet essential feature of a Hetki Sauna is the pest mesh made of stainless steel to keep the unwanted guests at bay. While it may seem like a minor detail, this hidden element is crucial to maintaining your sauna’s integrity and functionality. Without it, pests like mice or squirrels could infiltrate the structure, chew through insulation, or even build nests – leading to costly repairs and unnecessary headaches. At Hetki, we seamlessly incorporate these protective barriers into our saunas, ensuring pests stay out while maintaining proper ventilation of the roof structure. This thoughtful feature reflects our commitment to building saunas that deliver exceptional performance, lasting durability, and peace of mind.

Beyond pest protection, proper sauna design is critical to long-term performance. Poorly built saunas can suffer from trapped moisture, which can lead to mold growth and structural damage. That’s why Hetki saunas are constructed with durable sheet metal roofs, high-quality insulation with v***r barrier, and air gaps in-between for effective ventilation. Naturally, if an outdoor sauna does not have any heat insulation – as surprisingly too many products on the market do not – and may even lack proper external roofing, then there is no need for such details as a pest mesh.
