Happy Valentine's Day!❤️

Doni was the class winner on both days and in the European Winner he got CACS and RCACIB (so-called "vice European Winner” even though such a title is not awarded in real life☺️)

Today, on Valentine's Day, Doni has enjoyed a big delicious bone & running with friends on the frozen lake. Right now, as I write this post, he is lying half in my lap, happy with this day🙏🏼

As temperatures rise, it's crucial to ensure the well-being of our furry friends, especially in hot weather. Dogs are more susceptible to heat-related illnesses, such as heatstroke, so it's essential to take appropriate measures to keep them cool and comfortable. Here are some valuable tips on how to handle dogs in hot weather:

1. Provide Ample Shade and Water:
Ensure your dog has access to a shaded area throughout the day. Direct exposure to the sun can quickly cause heat exhaustion or heatstroke. Set up a cool, well-ventilated space with a water bowl nearby to help your dog stay hydrated.

2. Limit Exercise during Peak Heat Hours:
Avoid strenuous activities with your dog during the hottest parts of the day, typically between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Instead, opt for walks or playtime in the early morning or late evening when temperatures are cooler. Keep an eye out for signs of exhaustion or discomfort.

3. Protect Paws from Hot Surfaces:
Hot pavements and asphalt can burn a dog's sensitive paw pads. Before heading out for a walk, place the back of your hand on the ground to check if it's too hot for your dog's paws. Alternatively, walk your dog on grassy areas.

4. Never Leave Your Dog in a Parked Car:
Leaving a dog in a parked car, even for a few minutes, can be life-threatening. On a hot day, the temperature inside a vehicle can soar to dangerous levels rapidly, leading to heatstroke and possibly death. If you can't take your dog inside with you, leave them at home in a cool and comfortable environment.

5. Recognize Signs of Heat Stress:
Learn to identify the symptoms of heat stress or heatstroke in dogs. These include excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, vomiting, pale gums, and difficulty breathing. If your dog displays any of these signs, move them to a cool area, offer water, and seek immediate veterinary attention.

6. Provide Cooling Options:
Help your dog stay cool by offering additional cooling methods. Place a damp towel or cooling pad for them to lie on. You can also use a fan or provide a shallow pool or a sprinkler for them to play in, ensuring constant supervision.

Taking proactive steps to protect your dog from hot weather is essential for their well-being. By providing shade, water, and avoiding excessive exercise during peak heat, you can minimize the risk of heat-related issues. Remember to be vigilant, recognize signs of heat stress, and consult a veterinarian if needed. With your care and attention, your dog can enjoy the summer months safely.
