Nominator's quote: "My mother, my hero"
A word from Vanessa: "I'm 51 and I'm a horselover since... 51 years ! I've become a vet because of horses, even if I practice
on all kind of animals, horses are still my life commitment, and a very powerfull one.
Because life is as so, I made quite a time to at last create my ranch, a place dedicated to
rehabilitation and rehoming for injured racehorses, but now, it's done. As a child, I was already
fascinated by racehorses, their beauty, their performance. As a young vet, I had the opportunity to
work with them, especially in Ireland or Normandy. The initial bound became stronger ever since.
But love isn't enough. As I was constantly responsible for their wealth and performances, I became
aware of their fragility. King of the race field one day, poor thing injured another day. It came as an
evidence that I should develop a safe place, medical and ethical technics to cure them, the best as I
can, and guide them toward the second life they deserve all.
Be nominated to an award related to animal welfare and wealth is very important, not to me, but for
them. It puts light on them, the light they need to inform the professionals and the public that it's
possible. That they are not frail creature, half crazy and unable to continue as leasure horses.
Toward this nomination, I have the opportunity to tell another story than the saddest one. Racehorses are the wonderfullest storytellers, during their race carrier but also, because of their giant heart, their will-to-go, their dedication to humans, after it. So thank you so much for this nomination!"
