Acorn Kennels & Cattery Quality kennels and cattery situated in the heart of magnificent Normandy countryside, owned and run All cats sharing a pen must be from the same household.)

Established in 2005, Acorn Kennels and Cattery is committed to providing the very best care for your pet while you are away. With that in mind we started a 2-phase project to build brand new, modern, comfortable accommodation for both dogs and cats. The first phase was a new kennel block, which was opened in the summer of 2011. With 10 purpose built kennels of varying sizes we can accommodate all

breeds of dogs ranging from the smallest Chihuahua to the largest Cane Corso. Each pen has an indoor sleeping area with underfloor heating and equipped with a Kuranda Dog Bed of an appropriate size to suit your dog. Attached to each pen is an individual fully covered outdoor run which is accessible via a hatch throughout the day from 8am to 10pm. In addition to access to the outdoor run, your dog will be taken into our 800m2 exercise field 4 times a day to burn off some energy or simply to nosey around. Where possible your dog may be let out to play with a small group of dogs of similar age and character. All dogs are fed twice a day and we use only the best high quality food from Royal Canin. If your pet has a special prescription diet or has a delicate tummy then we recommend that you bring a sufficient supply of their own food (and medication if necessary) for the duration of their stay. Prescription medication will be given in accordance to your written instructions at no extra charge. The second phase was our new purpose-built UPVc cattery, which opened in 2015. The cattery, which was designed, supplied and installed by Peticular Pens Ltd, has a total of 13 pens (10 standard pens for 2 cats, 2 queen-size pens for 4 cats, and 1 king-size pen for 6 cats. The pens have an indoor sleeping area with individually controlled underfloor heating, 2 sleeping shelves and 2 cats flaps to access their fully covered outdoor run. The outdoor run has a full length viewing shelf and large glazed panels either side to allow plenty of natural light in and to keep an eye on the neighbours! The safety corridor at the front of the cat pens overlooks the garden and fields beyond and ensures an extra level of security. The cats are fed twice daily with the best quality cat food from Royal Canin (Fit 32). If your cat is on a prescription diet or medication then we advise that you bring sufficient supply for the duration of their stay. Not all kennels and catteries are the same so we always recommend that you 'view before you book' and we look forward to your enquiry.

As part of our 20th anniversary celebrations we have created a 2025 calendar which is available for €9.99 including P&P. The calendars have been designed, created and printed by us and feature some of the pets that we have had the pleasure of looking after over the past 20 years. As Christmas and the New Year are rapidly approaching, thoughts turn to those New Year Resolutions (often discarded after a couple of weeks!!).

If your pet is overweight, why not make a New Year's Resolution to try and help them reduce wieght and avoid potential future problems such as diabetes, respiratory problems and arthritis?

I know, I know...it's easier said than done as they look up at you with those adorable pleading eyes! But it really is worth trying your best to ensure your pet stays in top form.

One of the most common problems for pet owners is over-feeding and I often have clients expressly stating that they are feeding the recommended amount as shown on the food packaging but their pet is still not losing weight. However, those feeding guides are very general and no two pets are the same. Did you know that there is a recommended formula for calculating the energy requirements your pet needs? The basic formula is calculated according to your pet's IDEAL wieght (not their actual weight) but then there are various coefficients to take into consideration such as breed, age, activity levels, whether they live indoors or outdoors, and even if they are neutered. Sounds like a hassle to work all this out? It can be...but I've stumbled across a great online tool (French) to calculate exactly how much you should be feeding your pet based upon these varying factors. All you have to do is fill in the pet details, and then the nutritional information shown on your actual pet food packaging and voila! The form below is to calculate the daily foor ration for dogs but if you click on it you should be able to navigate to the cat food calculator.

Tip: when determining your pet's body size, be honest! There is also a link on the website which shows you how to determine if your pet is too thin, too fat or even obese.

Please note: ALWAYS check with your vet before starting your pet on a diet, just to make sure there aren't any underlying health issues.

It's natural for owners to worry about their pets if they have never stayed in a kennels or cattery before, but hopefully you can see that this first-time boarder is completely relaxed and enjoying her stay! She can't wait for her cuddles!
