Do you play games during your walks?

One of my favourite games to play during our walks is paws up. We often start our walks with paws up. But also half way, if I think we need to be a bit more connected we play 'paws up'. If CJ is overexcited, paws up is perfect to calm him down again.

Two paws up on an object and then feeding for stillness in that position is a really super cool way of promoting calmness, as well as boosting your dog's confident and optimism. This is a game we often use as a 'conversation starter', because it is a great one to take to new environments and give your dog a familiar object and behaviour they know really well. They can succeed with 'paws up' when they are somewhere novel. Your dog will feel like a superhero!

Use an easy and stable object and place it on the floor between your dog and you. Steadily encourage your dog towards you, feeding at the point when the two front paws are on the object.

Golden Paste

Have you heard of “Golden Paste”? It’s a healthy and easily digestible paste made from turmeric that can help reduce inflammation, and skin irritations, and improve gut health in dogs and humans alike.

Turmeric, an herb belonging to the ginger family, contains several compounds, collectively known as curcuminoids. The most well-known is curcumin, which gives turmeric its orange color.

Adding a small amount (½-1 tbsp) of Golden Paste to your pet's meal time can aid in:
• Reducing inflammatory processes, including pain
• Relieving gastrointestinal distress, including diarrhea
• Improve heart and liver function
• Minimize seasonal allergies

Some days are more beautiful than others.

With the Friday morning group we went to lake Puydarrieux for our class. And wow, the views, breathtaking, but a bigger WOW for how the teams performed today. Super grateful and so proud!

🏊‍♀️ You did learn to swim before you were thrown in the ocean 🏊‍♂️?! You train before the situation and not in the situation - can you imagine, learning to swim in the ocean?!

Walking with your dog(s) should be a relaxing time for everyone involved. I might can say that walking with your dog is the reason many people get a dog in the first place.

But did you know it’s totally fine to cut back on those walks? That’s right, we’re officially giving you the green light to skip the walks!

If your dog has a meltdown at the sight of another dog, jumps for joy just thinking about a walk, or feels nervous about things around them in the environment, it might be a signal to scale back walks and concentrate on building their skills to help them cope and thrive in the outside world.

Dogs are master predictors, and quickly learn that walks are often scary or exciting events. Skipping walks can actually lead to better behaviour since it stops them rehearsing those not-so-great behaviours.

Paws up 🐾

This handsome lad was in the field today and worked very hard (as his human did)! Besides working very hard, we also had a lot of fun - what is really important!

We offer, besides all kind of group classes, also 121 sessions.

The Christmas special - fun(d)raiser for Les Amis des Animaux, by CJ 🐾

Today was the day, according to my mum, as I had no clue what was going on. She was busy last week baking Christmas🎄cakes with liver for dogs, biscuits, brownies, making mulled wine (5L and it was gone in a second), picking up prizes and so on.

By 10h45 I heard all cars arriving, people laughing, dogs barking... and a minute I thought I wasn't joining. BUT mum put my harnas on and Yeah, the party started. And what a party it was, I saw so many of my friends (and all my aunties), it was difficult to engage with my mum, but he ho, I tried my very best!

We had to walk, judges were deciding who was best dressed (team), did the best trick and the advanced dogs competed for the most patience dog - there was one dog in a dog buggy - he cheated!

All amazing prizes were sponsored by the Pyrenees Canin and Point Vert, thanks again!

And now the best part started: everyone came into my courtyard to have a drink and play the quiz. I did my best to give everyone attention.

One of the questions was, where does my name CJ stand for C.....J....?!?! If you know the answer, I have something for you. Answer under here and I'll pick a winner - only dogs are allowed to join this give away!

Sniffari The first time Ulka went on a sniffari. She loved it, was very good at it and she was exhausted afterwards. We made a few tracks for Ulka to follow, as this was the first time, we started from skretch. Homework for the team, next week we might can make the tracks 👣 a bit longer or we might add some bends. A sniffari is perfect for dogs that love to use their nose and/or need to burn off some energy (without running like an idiot). The best bonus: you work together as a team.
