Hedgehog awareness post!

Please don’t leave me, I’m not asleep, I’m dying!
Pick me up and get me into the warm. Place me in a high sided box with an old towel to snuggle in, place a hot water bottle beside me, ( if you haven’t got a hot water bottle an old pop bottle filled with hot water will do, ) make sure I can move away from the heat if necessary.
Contact your nearest rescue, I really need their expertise and care.
They have medicine and incubators and can treat me for my ills. They are my best chance.
Please help me.
If your local rescue is full keep looking for another.
If you need to travel please take me in your car to get me the help I need.

Back in Ticheville dog sitting for Rambouche and Sprout, two much loved dogs who lead a life of luxury. Rambouche has suffered unbelievable trauma and cruelty before he came to this wonderful home. He's still very wary but every time I come he's made progress and Sprout has numerous medical conditions but both are well cared for by their patient human companions. Always a pleasure to be here.

Reggie's diaries - Reggie has heard that Mummy Selena's friend Sheena has just had a knee operation and would like to read about Reggie's progress as it makes her smile. Reggie has not made much progress, he still bounces around like a flea on speed, he still digs great big holes when he's mouse hunting and makes mummy Selena all red faced and shouty voiced and he still runs at the sheep full pelt to make them run. Naughty Reggie. However, this week has been interesting for Reggie as he had lots of people arriving to take away lumps of wood - humans are strange things, they move objects around all the time for no apparent reason that Reggie can work out. They move the wood, they move the earth, they move the food away from the edge of the table- Reggie particularly doesn't understand that, he can't reach the food, how inconsiderate he thinks! Reggie loves having visitors, it's very very exciting, some of them are really nice to him, some don't appreciate his enthusiastic welcome, after all, sitting in on their laps and licking their faces is being friendly, as far as Reggie is concerned, even if he does weigh 20 kilo's now!
Mummy Selena moves his bedding and puts it in a big box with a round window in the front and when she takes it out it's wet so she moves it into the garden and hangs it up, on a wire, very strange. When she puts it back in his cage it smells different so Reggie looks for some nice fox poo to roll in and gets back in his bed and rolls about so it smells nice again. This makes mummy Selena red faced and shouty voiced, Reggie cannot work out why, it smells wonderful! Humans are bonkers Reggie thinks.

Back in Ticheville with Sprout and Rambouche for 8 days housesit. Ahhhh peace and quiet, warm bed, flushing toilet and proper shower!!

Another dog sit comes to an end today, the clients have been to a wedding and had nothing but bad luck and weather since they left. I feel they will be glad to get home. It's been awful here too, drab and wet, depressing to say the least. I hope all my friends out there are having a better time of it! Apparently sunny and warm tomorrow, always lifts the spirits. Enjoy.

Currently dog sitting in Camembert with 3 little doodle type woofers Bailey, Benson and Honey. Honey can be seen reclining on the sofa in the background. What horrible weather, it's rained virtually all the time I've been here!

Reggie's diaries - well it's been a while since Reggie has had anything to report. Mummy Selena and Daddy Ed have been busy so Reggie has had to stay in the garden and amuse himself. However, much excitement, the farmer cut the big field next door and whenever he does that the grass is nice and short, it makes a great race track for Reggie and his friends and he even gets to dig the odd hole. Whoop whoop Reggie thinks! Reggie is super fast, he thinks he's a greyhound - a bit like Mummy Selena thinks she is a supermodel - as he gallops full pelt across the huge field with Elsa in hot pursuit. Wreckit has to stay on the lead after the badger set incident but he tries to keep up but when he comes to the end of his lead he stops abruptly and takes off into the air, legs akimbo. Mummy Selena bought Wreckit a bungee lead so he doesn't take off. Sometimes mummy Selena gets time to take them to the woods, but Reggie is so strong now he pulls her out of her boots and the other two get so excited all the leads get tangled up until it is a knot of dogs. Then Reggie, Wreckit and Elsa get cross with each other and Mummy Selena goes into red face shouty voice mode Reggie can tell she is not happy. Reggie knows how to slip his collar and then he's free to chase the cars. Naughty Reggie. If only he realised how dangerous that was! Reggie has heard lots of loud bangs in the area, he does not know what it means but he has to stay in when they sound. Something called the chasse apparently. Instant death to all who get in the way, especially after a Calvados fuelled lunch. Mummy Selena and Daddy Ed don't like the chasse, they hope the hares and wild boar are quick on their feet and get away, even though mummy Selena loves wild boar stew - Reggie thinks the word for that is hypocrite! A certain idiot dropped her phone down the loo last week. Bought anew one and did it again!!!!!! So cross with myself. Net result, I'm using husband's old phone for emergencies but will pick messages up morning and night on the computer. Sorry if you dont get a response straight away x

Reggie's diaries - well, Reggie feels a bit chillier in the evenings now and doesn't like getting out of bed in the cooler mornings until he sees mummy Selena get the food bowls out for breakfast...then of course it's action stations. Reggie met Dagmar Voss when she came to visit last week. Reggie likes Dagmar, she talks to him and makes a fuss of him and gives him doggy treats when mummy Selena isn't looking. Reggie likes doggy treats. This week Reggie has been helping in the garden, it's exhausting work watching the humans run about moving piles of dirt filling in the holes that Wrekckti meticulously dug for them, how very unappreciative they are! But it's fine Wreckit can dig lots more, he's already started. Unfortunately mummy Selena goes into red face shouty voice mode when Wreckit digs holes, it's natural for dogs, why can't humans just accept that? Reggie does not understand that humans spend alot of time gardening and get upset when their efforts are destroyed by marauding Jack Russells. Reggie has to take a moment and rest on the sun lounger to figure it out...nope,...still doesn't make sense to him.
This week Reggie went to the vets. He is not sure if he likes the vets. There are lots of interesting smells there, some make him sneeze. All of the people there are nice to him but he doesn't care much for the lady who strokes him and then sticks a pin in his neck. Ouch!! Reggie is now 19.9kg, he's a big boy now the vet said. Maybe a bit too big and should lose some weight, horror of horrors Reggie thinks, don't fancy going to the vets again what with the pins and suggestion he's a but portly and should have less food. No way!! how very dare they!
Yesterday Reggie went for a run outside the farm with Wreckit, mummy Selena left the gates open so they went on a adventure. They were running full pelt up the middle of the road towards the village when Reggie heard mummy Selena screeching in the distance. Reggie though she must need him urgently and turned back, but as Wreckit is deaf it took him a few moments before he realised he was on his own, then he too turned tail. Mummy Selena gave Reggie and Wreckit a bit doggy treat so it was worth coming back. Elsa did not run with Reggie and Wreckit, Reggie thinks Elsa is a goody two shoes for not joining them. Reggie's diaries - oh joy of joys mummy Selena reappeared this week and Reggie was ecstatic, bounce bounce bounce around the kitchen, the garden, everywhere in fact, he was so happy to see her! Reggie feels very subdued when mummy Selena is away, she is fun she likes to play and hides around the corner and jumps out at Reggie and makes him run fast around the garden with his tail between his legs, silly Reggie. Shortly after mummy Selena appeared so did some other people. Reggie has seen them before, and especially remembers the youngest of them as she likes to play with Reggie too. One of them waves his arms and shouts alot and the other one is quiet and laughs alot. They all went on a very long walk, the longest Reggie remembers, they walked to a part of the forest that he had never been to before and Reggie was very excited. It was hot but it was shady in the woods and Reggie found lots of interesting smells, . When he got home he was very tired and thirsty so he drank lots of water and then fell asleep......for 30 minutes, ... then he was up and bouncing again. Wreckit and Elsa were not, they were very tired and not in the mood to play with Reggie so he pulled all their blankets out from under them and dragged them across the kitchen floor. They don;t seem to want to play and they don't have many blankets now, Reggie does not know where they all go!!

REGGIES DIARIES - where oh where is mummy Selena? It's many mealtimes ago since Reggie has seen her and life is very quiet because daddy Ed is too busy to take them for walkies. It has been very hot, too hot to play or dig. Reggie has spent most of his time asleep in the sun and then asleep in the shade. He has of course found time to dig a few holes and chase the sheep up and down the fence line - stupid sheep - and watch daddy Ed making sparks and bang wood, humans are so noisy and industrious. Reggie likes wood too, he likes chewing it up, but that is not appreciated (red face, loud voice) so he is careful to chew it where he can't be seen. Every night Reggie can hear mummy Selena's voice coming from a small flat box on the table, how does she do that and where is she? Reggie does not understand technology. He does understand tug o war with his blanket though, and has played lots of games of this with Wreckit. They are running out of things to pull, all their blankets are in small pieces now which makes it difficult to play. Reggie is waiting for some new blankets!! Reggie does not know that mummy Selena has bought him a new dog bed and is wondering how long that will last! We shall see - have a good week all.
