Hi all,

Unfortunately the litters that I had planned, are going to have to be postponed for a while. I was late to try and pair them up due to my own illness but I’m glad I didn’t as our puppy custard has now come down with kennel cough.

The bacteria responsible for kennel cough is extremely contagious and very very deadly to rats.

We are being as careful as we can but only time will tell so we are keeping everything crossed that the rats remain unaffected. It helps that they are in a different building to the dog.

We also won’t be able to attend any shows for a while, as there’s absolutely no chance we are risking infecting other people’s rats.

Sorry everyone, I will update my page when I know more.

*important rattery updates*

Hi all, apologies for the radio silence, I’ve been very busy with a quite sudden house move!

I’m now located in Abberton, Colchester.

This won’t change a huge amount in terms of homing, I will still be sharing a waiting list with Gingerbread Rats and we will still be working closely together.

I still travel back to Hertfordshire regularly and will hopefully be driving from February next year, so will be as flexible as I can be with kittens pick ups.

If anyone has any concerns please feel free to send me or Emma a message!!

My next litters are still planned for around January next year🤞🏻

These 2 gorgeous and insanely confident does are going to be the beginning of me breeding Essex!! They’re only teeny tiny at the moment but I’m so excited at the prospect of them having kittens themselves🥰

The rats and I had a lovely day at the NFRS Tempsford show yesterday!! I entered everyone except Judas (who had cut his foot and is being a grumpy sod at the moment🥲)

In other, hugely exciting news I picked up some agouti Essex kittens from the wonderful Beeghos Rats !! I will do a proper post introducing them, but they will hopefully be the beginning of my Essex line, which is so exciting and something I’ve wanted to do for forever!! I’m really pleased with them, so keep your eyes peeled for Essex kittens in the future🥰

~Upcoming breeding plans~

My next litters are planned for jan/feb time next year.

My does from my latest litter will be 8/9 months old at that point, and ideally I would be mating up in December however I point blank refuse to breed anytime around Christmas, I don’t breed rats as presents so don’t bother asking.

It also gives me some time to spend going to shows, learning more and take a breath for a few months before kitten chaos begins again!

I also have some very exciting news coming soon-ish but I don’t want to jinx anything before it happens😅

I just want to thank all of the fabulous breeders and the amazing network of rat-humans around me providing such a fabulous support network!!

Sad story incoming…

I popped into PAH today, to pick up some dog food for my rats mix. As I was walking around I spotted 2 very elderly looking bucks in the adoption section.
I spoke to a staff member who told me they owned rats themselves, and was clearly very knowledgable and caring- so I can’t fault them at all.
The boys were in a terrible state, which I won’t go into too much detail about as it’s quite upsetting.
There was no way I could leave them. Especially as there was a child with their parent there who were considering adopting them too.
So I took them home, and from the minute I held them I knew they were ready to go to the rainbow bridge.
3 hours later, I took them to see my vet who agreed there was no treatment options other than to put them out of their suffering.

It infuriates me so much, that these rats were deemed ‘homeable’ and would be given to the first person who wanted them! They were so SO poorly, and suffering badly.

Please, please never ever buy rats from a pet shop. There is no concern or care for the animals well-being and it will almost always end in heartbreak.

RIP Frankie and Remi, I’m glad you could have some love and cuddles in your last few hours💔

I had to say goodbye to Grandma Rowena this morning….
She had always been a healthy girl and raised 2 litters, one with me. RIP you sassy lady, everyone will miss you💔
